TV I use for testing video games is a Haier 7" HLT71. It has coax and RCA inputs only - does not have HDMI. I bought mine used on eBay for $50 shipped, although you may get it even cheaper if you are patient.

I always use the calculator. I don’t mind making 3.00 on something I paid 1.00. As long as things are moving. It’s really important to include the cost of your shipping materials as well as promotional rate! Thank you for the video ❤

The Rebel Reseller has 10,000 listings. She buys a lot of her stuff at the goodwill bins and she sells a lot of items in the 8-12 dollar range; she makes enough money to pay her mortgage just off those sales. eBay is the primary income for the household so I think they do pretty good with the low cost items.
I sell ephemera and I currently have 40k items in my shop. You can make money selling low cost items however you have to sell a lot to make a living wage. I didn’t start seeing a steady sale every day until I hit 5k items. My category is a 2-5% sell thru so that’s why I have a ton of items. It’s very rare (1-2x) a year where I don’t sell anything. My inventory occupies 3 wire shelving units so it really doesn’t take up that much room. Most people that I’ve seen who try to sell in this category, give up after 6-12 months because they realize it requires too much work and they go back to selling hard goods.
Lonie, You mentioned in a previous video that sales were becoming harder to come by, especially after the recent Ebay algorithm update. Can you talk more about what changes you have observed. I am seeing the same pattern in my sales too. Thanks!
Pennant Shipping: for items like pennants, I like to do that loose roll around something like an air pillow or cut off piece of pool noodle, so they don’t crush so easily when the mail carrier tosses a 15 pound box on my package. If a bubble mailer is used I can sometimes keep select items down to a 4 or 8 oz pack. For more expensive items it will go in a box.
With something in the center to support it, I will even consider shipping such items that weigh in over a pound in a Priority Flat Rate Bubble Mailer. Of course, an alternative would be to use a 4” high box, slipped inside the Priority FR bubble mailer. The option depends on the price point of the sale.

Making a Beverly Drawer: when I change a bin name/number that isn’t empty, I don’t bother bulk editing to do the change. I just add the second name/number to the bin/drawer face and use the new name/number on new listings. Old listings still retain the old Custom SKU. At some point, all the old listings sell and the old name goes away. Usually during the annual physical inventory, done to see how many active listings eBay has dumped.

Usually if I'm selling something for $7.99 my cost was well under a dollar, plus it's something simple to ship. When you put those things together, then I'm perfectly fine with a profit of $5.00 on an item. But, hey, what's way better than a $5 profit is flipping an unused printer for over twice what you paid for it! "NICE!" 😉😄
Hey guys just to let you know it's an art to scamming emails I did read something online sometime ago that the mistakes are actually intentional because if you click on it it shows the scammer your level of intelligence and awareness of scams and that you may be illiterate or uneducated or desperate for money hence an easier target than somebody who doesn't click on it they'll know that they are probably more intelligent cuz they notice the errors there's apparently an art to this scamming thing. That was an interesting move on Dymo's part to force clients to buy their lables. I never bought one of those so I went on Amazon, bought the 550, tried it out a bit, found it worked well and then sent it back to buy the 450 on Facebook marketplace saying that I didn't like their business model, no regrets lel. Found one for 79.99 even though it had a decade it wasn't used much and it works well so I can't complaint, let's see how much more it will work haha

I use the Dymo 450 daily for shipping labels. It uses the 2" x 7" labels. Who knew it would be worth that much, lol
I sell a lot of lego and people laugh at me selling 6$ figures. Well there's at least 10-15 going out every day on top of other normal items so well worth it.
We have a wireless Rollo and love it. Not sure why we waited so long to make the investment. Cut and tape UGH.
Cost to sell on eBay: my wife just finished our annual business taxes and gave me the average cost/fee to use eBay and it came out to an average of 34%. The variables are too great to look at individual items, to learn much, so try to look back at a great number of sales, sourced from many methods and shipped a variety of ways. Sometimes promoted, sometimes on sale, eBay store fees, because that is the way selling really happens for most of us. Look at Net profit for 3, 6 or 12 months to make big decisions and don’t forget overhead (fuel, rent, shipping and tax rates, etc)costs to source and sell vary greatly as well.

I would say the individual picture is more important, when sourcing, to decide if the item (or bulk buy) should even be considered, while the big picture is more about the continual question of asking if the entire act of selling is still financially viable, as the years pass. Every time my wife finishes the annual taxes (25 years of selling now) we ask the same question: Is this still worth doing as a business or should we just retire, close up shop and dabble a bit?
For sourcing, I find a general Rule of Thumb to be useful. I figure that each item has to make about 300 percent minimum (3x the investment) to cover the cost and the time it takes to sell. Those factors vary, of course. Some are easy listers, or you source multiples, but in general the first 100% equals the buy in cost needed to return your principle, the second covers the expense and fees involved, while the third is the net profit needed to cover time and effort (my wage) and aggravation. Some days the price of the aggravation can be pretty high.
As for the 300% (3x) Rule, the variables are the key and you have to be able to adjust the concept on the fly, when you are out picking. Especially true of lower value items.
For the last year, my own sourcing of low value items came from Downsizing and moving off our acreage, to a much smaller place at our lake house. My main workshop was a very full 2600 sq ft (plus loft) Pole Barn and we also had several smaller outbuildings. As we prepped the place to sell, we sold off a lot of larger items (lumber, shop tools, heavy equipment), using various methods, but each time I went back to the property I filled bin after bin of small (much of it NOS) items that would sell on eBay in the $10-25 range. Lot of it was old tools and hardware from my workshop.
Now, when I need items to list, I simply go to one of those bins to source, in much the same way you go to your storage unit. My buy in cost for those items if effectively zero, so when I look at selling them, the key factors are time, effort and expected return. So for this type of sale, my Rule of Thumb has to be modified to a 200% (2x) rule. Time and Effort has to = Desired Profit and an Hourly Wage. In some cases, what I packed a year ago no longer pencils out, once the research is done. When that happens, I look at grouping/Lotting up related items. I own it all (but no longer need it), so it has to be dealt with in some manner and hundreds and hundreds of $10-25 items can push up the annual numbers.

What ticks me off most about selling on ebay, is they charge you fee for sales, and fee on shipping. Even if shipping is exact they still charge you. I dont understand how they are able to do that. i mean I get the whole people use to sell something for 5 bucks, then 49.99 for shipping so ebay got less of a cut. But if your put in weight, and size customer gets charged that price. So why is Ebay taking a cut of something your not making any money off of?

It's worth it to me. I am retired so anything sold is cheddar. I told my wife when I started that I wanted to be the McDonalds of ebay by selling in volume. McDonalds makes money selling a billion cheeseburgers not selling thousands of Big Macs. I sell sports cards and average a dollar made per card as most cards are listed at $1.99 free shipping. Now that I just became a top rated seller and have 300 perfect sells I have started to list non sportscard stuff and I do try to make as much as I can on those but a sale is a sale is a sale at the end of the day.

The webpage calculator said 10.81% + .30 for none promoted items, but as a top seller I'm paying 12.35% + .30 🤔on most items.
I just charge 15% more than actual cost on the shipping, I'm not making that money but its not costing me money.

Maybe the mystery of the million dollar Beanie Baby / Black Diamond tapes can now be solved? I see a documentary, because that story has to be pretty wild.

@@shedflips As it appears from the limited research I've done, they will be available after purchase, but before delivery. There is a potential they will allow p.o. boxes, but you will have to meet the 'exemption requirements'(?) for that.
Depending on the level of panic the different YT Personalities have, the story becomes "Anyone that wants your address just has to go to ebay and pull up a listing to get your address ... even if they don't buy." OR "There is going to be a process of proving why you need to know the seller's address, and it is not going to be easy for buyers to get to it. Ebay just has to have it on file." ......
From what I understand, It's a government thing that will hit all platforms, and was originally intended to 1). allow buyers to decide if they wanted to purchase from a foreign country or to support a company that did ______ , or 2). as a way to more easily track people that stole (or counterfeited) items and sold them on Ebay, etc.
Of course things have gotten twisted from the original intent, and between governmental bureaucracy, ebays inability to make a clear policy statement with defined parameters about anything, and the combined panic and click bait nature of the YT personalities nothing is particularly clear ... BUT, it does appear names and addresses of ebay sellers are going to be available at some level greater than they have been in the past.

I’ve seen it where the eBay Seller account address is in the US, so you believe it’s a US based Seller at the time of purchase, which (is when I check, before pulling the trigger on the buy), but the label on the package arrives from China or from a completely different state.
Even new on Amazon a new Dymo 5xl (£168) is cheaper than the older 4xl (£223) Seems they've shot themselves in the foot with the chipped printer label nonsense.
You have got to add tax as well cause ebay fees are on item+tax+shipping
yeh there will usually be some amount of tax. On a cheap item it could be around 10 cents. Or it could be 0 if that state doesn't have sales tax. - Lonnie
Also - I figured the packaging up at 50 cents for that example. A lot of cheap stuff might go in a bubble mailer instead and be cheaper. So that number could be high or low depending. Everyone can try to predict these things for themselves I guess.
Lonnie & Candice, You were talking about how to tell what you made on an Item and the page you use to find out...did you know that if you click on the item number after you have completed your sale (After printing postage) you will be taken to a page that tells you what you made for that item? Do you not trust that?

I have noticed some sellers sell CDs without the case and list them as "No case, no tracking" and sell them for below media rate (letter rate?). Also book dealers selling at 1 dollar above media rate. These people must deal in huge volume but then again is it worth it?
I sell tons of low price items (mostly pulp magazines, media) and on average i quadruple my money. Most important, i buy bulk and pay cents for them. They can be listed very fast and especially for pulp magazines i got lot of multiple orders. The important thing is how big is the profit margin you can get out of it and how much time you need to invest.
They probably just send it in an envelope with a stamp. I sell patches and that is how I do it.

I'd do a test first. Many brands of clear packing tape will cause thermal labels to fade out.
I do not, i have had labels fade from placing tape over them so I don't do it. Thermal labels do not smear though. - Lonnie
