Great vid on the 202. I pair mine with a SP-303 or 404sx. Its such a magical machine the 202 when it comes to its lofi grit. It works great with the PO-33 as well. The 202 when paired with another SP with its Compressor efx activated its a dream.
Yeah I pair my mk2 with my po33 now and it’s a great combo now that you can stack the BUS fx at the same time. Saves me a lot of time in the workflow as I used to have to always filter and then add compression
Thank you for putting the time into making this video. Lots of people go on UA-cam, see mad beats being played on the SP-202 and think "OMG this is amazing I want one" while I'm here asking myself "how the hell did they manage to pull it off with such a limited polyphony". 99% of the time they just did everything on another sampler and just put the loops already done without any filtering on the SP-202. So people buy one, discover that it's way too limited for them and have wasted their money and they're now desperately trying to sell it back. I hope they'll find your very informative video to realize what they are really buying and make a more informed decision (I was about to buy one, but then I read the manual and realized that it was way too limited for me. Got a Zoom SampleTrak ST-224 and never looked back).
@@spvidz Is it? I'll scour your channel later, but I'd love to see your analysis of all the various SP iterations to see their limitations. I was really tempted by the SP-404SX, but when I discovered I could use the Zoom ST-224 as a live looper as well as a sampler for me the deal was set.
@@spvidz to make a simple minimalist beat it’s ok: a drum loop and a soulful sample at lofi2 then you can create intro verse and hook. To push the thing even further rec it on a stereo tape! Boom instant early Madlib vibe! To answer to your question well yes!
I've been hesitating between the mk2 and the 202 for a while now in addition to my mpc 2000, they're both incredible machines but I don't have an unlimited budget. little video idea for you: a beat with the 202/Mpc 2000 or xl combo, it could help me for my choice 😂
Honestly that sounds like a very painful workflow 😂. Those are the two machines I like working with the least just because of their processing times etc. the 202 is a nice have but I think pairing older machines with something newer/faster is a lot more rewarding. It could be interesting using the midi from the MPC to control the 202 though
I've made full beats on mine it's my favorite out of all the SP'S to use only thing I wish it had a sequencer so I didn't have to bang on the pads as much that the only reason I don't use it as much as my 404 but I definitely use it more than my 303 though lol
Not that I'm aware of sorry man. Samplers are usually aimed at people that want to put their own audio into them and make music/beats. I don't know if there is anything on the market like what you are explaining but I could be wrong.
It's really barebones. I've used it more for sampling a drum break, then chopping and programming it in ableton. This machine is the poor mans SP1200 as far as getting a gritty sound though!
@@TheMattmatic the Zoom Sample track ST-224 is more or a Poor man's SP12. And a fat better budget sampler than the 202. Triple the amount of effects. Sequencer. Copy pads/resample. Still has same grit as 202. Also known as the "dirt machine".
Appreciating the lighting and camera angle in the demonstration portion; very aesthetically pleasing
Glad you liked that. Think I’ll try more like this as I’m getting a bit bored of the overhead angle haha

great video! Explains so much about SP workflows with any unit
Thanks for the comment 🙏
Great video! The 202 has wicked reverse function as well
yeah man there's a few other fun features to this box. Love using it for making beats!

Thats the same for a lot of the SP devices IMO!

Both are definitely a vibe, the pitch sure really slowed it down
Yeah it can make a huge different to the feel of a beat. I think it gives you a 20% difference each way if I remember correctly
Nice video thank you… i love this machine almost 15 years that breaks sampled mono at 7.81 kHz still makes me so happy
Its a blast once you get your head around the limitations!

Amazing vid. Gonna try this out with my 202.
Nice man. Have fun! 👌
Super entertaining video, mate! Have a great day, dude!
Thanks man! Same to yourself
That Erroll Garner sample goes crazy🔥
🙌🙏
You can play finger drums using the 202 if you use gate works pretty good for me

Great video

Definitely a good moto to live by!
It's meant to paired with the DR-202 drum machine.
Correct. I will have to try a video making use of the midi 👍
Perfect combo/hrs of fun w/Dr. Groove and Dr. Sample.
Mi primer sampler comprado en Ámsterdam... Nunca llegué a comprar una sd.
makes me want to wear my hat sideways and walk down a dirty alley thinking about my sad childhood yo.

I definitely use mine more than the 303 as well. I hardly touch my 303 😬
@@spvidz same
MIDI that thang up. Sequence it externally💥💯
Yeah definitely need to try that 👌
Are there any devices like this that have samples built in that you can loop with?

Shake your head no, while looking at the display of the SP-202..... See the flicker? ❤
It doesn't have a resample function? Wow i didn't knew that.

@@MattCupan Yeah I've been looking for that, but the copies I've seen have been pretty expensive. Hope to pick up one for a reasonable price some day
Tempting me bro lol
