The Fall of Jaguar F1 Team

  • Jaguar Formula 1 Team raced in the sport from 2000 to 2004. With heavy backing from owner Ford, there was reason to be excited about this potential motor sport prospect. Unfortunately though, it would go all wrong for the team. Jaguar had the likes of Niki Lauda in a management role and nearly signed technical genius Adrian Newey but they would fail to perform consistently and despite their occasional good results, it wasn't enough for Ford to continue with their F1 journey. The team was sold to Red Bull in late 2004, and the rest is history. Enjoy!

    A driver who nearly wins the title with Ferrari is fired and joins a new team built on a small team known for punching above it's weight. The new team is named after an iconic car brand, has a ton of cash injected into it and is given a beautiful green livery, and yet, the results don't come. The ex-Ferrari driver still does his best, and even manages to get a few podiums out of the rapidly stagnating team, but in the end gets fed up with the lack of progress and leaves. A few years later, the teams investors decide that the venture is not worth it and the plug is pulled. Ah how history repeats itself...

      I think the real diamond was replaced with a replica. Then they both disappeared. But the replica's disappearance got all the attention. While someone else has a $400,000 paperweight they can never show anyone.
      Makes sense considering the diamond was part of a promotion for a Heist Movie.
      And I'm sure the only one who really lost out was the insurance company. Unless they were also in on it.
      Who writes a policy for a baseball size diamond on a removable part of a car with a high likelihood of being damaged/lost on a 200mph car driving around the world's most challenging street circuit with solid barricades everywhere?

    The indifference to the team by Ford at a corporate level is evident in the question posed during a meeting where they looked at the company's highest earners:
    "Who is this Edmund Irvine we're paying millions of dollars to?"
    As Red Bull have shown since they bought the team at the end of 2004, the group of people in the team had potential, but Ford seemed to regard anyone who was a manager, as not good enough

      That's why Ford doesn't get any respect from me. Look at their automotive sales. Their trucks are old hogs from a bygone era that sell for an outrageous $55,000 US and feel like they're 10 years old. And their stealerships are the most crooked people you'll ever meet. They were known for slapping on hidden fees like crazy to drive up the prices so customers got fed up and walked out the doors. Went to one in my city and the lot is overflowing with overpriced trucks that will never sell.

    The hype around the Jaguar brand coming to F1 was immense. Such a shame it all went wrong. With all the team principles that came through the doors, it is clear there were problems with the u leadership and culture of the parent company.
    I love the story about a senior leader at Ford who upon viewing the highest earners on their payroll, saw that a certain 'member of staff' E Irvine was getting paid millions. He demanded to know who Irvine was in front of the other board members as he'd never heard of him...... It just goes to show that Ford should never have been in charge of an F1 team. The senior leadership team of Ford were completely disconnected from the reality of F1.
    An interesting fact to note is that Stewart, Jaguar and Redbull all achieved their first podium position at Monaco.

    The Jaguar hiring Newey is actually false. He was with McLaren until 2005, until Red Bull (which is ex Jaguar) got him to jump ship. And the rest is history we all know.

    • @MadeByPerspective
      @MadeByPerspective  Рік тому +2

      Correct, he stayed with McLaren until 2005 but Jaguar made a move for him.

      Indeed Jaguar contacted him but it was just speculations.
      David Coulthard singing to Red Bull played a major part into bringing Newey from McLaren. He was one who convinced RBR to contact Adrian.
      The MP4/18 fiasco strained the already burnt relationship between Ron Dennis and Newey, as McLaren was spending millions year after year yet Ferrari kept them at bay and the team was on a dry spell since Hakkinen's back-to-back titles.
      Adrian was let go from McLaren in 2005 and singed to Red Bull in 2006, after a gardening leave.
      Newey's first contributions in the new team came out in the RB3, the car for 2007.

    My favourite team at the time was Jaguar, mostly for the colour on the car and how the liveries look, also because of Eddie Irvine because he's Irish but has to use a British identity because Ireland cannot race because it is a neutral country and such, mostly political issue which is odd because it is a racing sport and dunno why being neutral or such a problem? Anyways, hope you do a video on that and Jaguar was one of the best looking team back then, even if it didn't get the points it needs, so yeah

    • @MrBlazemaster525
      @MrBlazemaster525 Рік тому

      Nah, it's not neutrality or anything
      It's sectarian shit that scared him off using the Irish tricolor

      You need to learn geography. Eddie Irvine is from NORTHERN IRELAND. It is part of the UK so he's a British national whether he admits it or not.

    Ford did a disservice by forcing the Jaguar brand down a dead end. To this day, Jaguar car sales are appalling, it is being propped up by parent company, Tata and impressive sales from Land Rover.

    A supposedly true story about the jaguar F1 team that highlights the level of disconnect between Ford management and F1 as a whole goes like this:
    In a board meeting between Ford execs and F1 management one of the Ford execs asks angrily: "Who is this Edward Irvine that we pay so much money to?"

    Jaguar has NO excuse. With their budget and the management, they had zero wins and only a podium or two. Not even into 2001, I realized the entire team was a joke. A perfect example of Just because you have the big name doesn't mean you should...
