Zach You are the MAN!! I have been wrenching for 50 yrs and I learn something everytime I watch you. You get the award for creative solutions Keep up the good work.
Zach I have been working on Trucks for over 40 years, water in the fuel system making it past the fuel water separator is what caused this problem, buy a new fuel filter and fill it half full with diesel and half with high detergent trans fluid or marvel mystery oil mixed in a old clean jug before filling filter and dump white jug power serv ice fuel additive i n fuel tank to destroy the moisture or the problem be back!
Zach, you'd be a great shop teacher. Best lesson we can impart to the young kids is "if it's already broken, you can't break it any worse, so you might as well try fixing it." So many people are just afraid that they'll wreck something, but it's already wrecked, so who cares! And then once you get going with it, you realize "hey, this ain't so bad" and before you know it you've fixed it.
Wise are those who PROMPTLY get titles to everything they buy and get a hard copy in hand when they go to DMV. Store the hard copy in case DMV loses the data from their system. That saved my ass on a classic BSA. I've seen many unhappy people who put title transfer off then life intervenes and they can no longer get title though they were totally confident they could procrastinate. That's why I warn everyone when the subject comes up. Thanks again for all the useful info in your videos!
Your experience really shows on these videos Zach. It was a good explanation of why things are as they are and a practical way of dealing with it. Thanks again and Best Wishes to You and Your Family.... It was undoubtedly the "soy sauce " that worked the trick ! 🤓
Your logic is awesome your back is against the wall best decision do something and it looks as if it paid off so far great job love your videos awesome channel
Hey Zach, great work on that injection pump! I love the way you analyze the problem and know the risk involved. Your trial and error methods always seem to work out. I so wish I had that kind of mechanical ability. Gotta love those Macks!! Another outstanding video. Keep them coming.
That’s a good vid ! Thanks for sharing that. I need a truck for a project I’m working on, and I’ve been avoiding a couple of deals,, maybe I will take a swing at the ball ! See what you started,,, another project! Cheers
I've got a couple of old Cat D2 dozers. One of them hadn't run in a while. The plungers were stuck. I was able to take the side cover off and gently pry them down with a screwdriver. Rolled it over and repeat. A couple of attempts at that and all four freed up. Got lucky.
I learned a tiny bit working on a 5.9 cummins that had been in a fire. Most people don't realize that automotive engines have too much power for a dozer or other applications like. I had to take pieces and parts from one pump to the other as both pumps had some real bad issues and for me it was win or junk it. Taking it apart was scary but win or lose, gotta try. Some things like no keyway on the pump for the timing was a big one but oddly my cards were in my favor, should of bought a lotto ticket instead but hey...... it worked. That old case dozer ... it was a 450, but for the model or year is a mystery for me. I don't remember my own name unless someone reminds me. Might be a bit of a something... words are hard for me to spell. I am seventy four and its just not easy being me. I could spend a day talking about things I have been going through. Your a younger version of myself in my dumb thinking. Lets just stop here and not bore you any more.... thanks for "Updating my memory"
You do a good job of providing explanation on what is going on while your working on things. (in all of your videos) For someone like me who knows absolutely nothing about what your doing... it's very helpful. I find your channel very interesting. Definitely nothing else like it on "The Tube". Thanks for your efforts!
I had a 3 cylinder Mitsubishi gray market tractor with a loader that had a missfire. The plunger was stuck up like that. I took it apart, soaked it with Kroil, and worked it with the starter while pushing the plunger with a screwdriver, and she freed up nice. That thing ran like a champ after that.
I drove those old R model macks for over 20 years, with water tanks. Fifth wheel plates dump truck boxes. pulled a low boy for about 7 years With 1 and 1 thing about those mack suspensions, they gotta be pretty bad to bother fixing. Usually just go on a straight line for a little while. And those axles will square right up LOL. Keep up the great video.Zach always enjoy your content
Zach, Good explanation of how that pump works! The delivery valve provides the required amount of retraction to prevent secondary (and even tertiary) injection(s) based on the injection line length and ID to drop the line psi bellow the opening psi set point of the nozzle (injector). But, too much or “over” retraction will cause the line pressure to drop below zero psi and causing cavitation. That will make a mess of the high pressure portion of the injection system. I have seen cavitation ruin a poppet valve in an electronic pump in less than an hour - back in my fuel system R&D days many moons ago. You could watch the fuel delivery drop as the pump was operating. Edit, I think the leaking fuel line that went behind the pump is the nozzle return fuel line from under the valve covers.
Question : I was in the oil business in Oklahoma operated and owned four leases approx 25 shallow wells ,very Laborl intensive and I should of invested in a hardware business this is were all profits went.is there a less costly method to produce oil.were still using same old technology.
Fun stuff overall. Tomorrow: Full eclipse of sun at least here where I am. I do appreciate your documentaries of your efforts. I'd have done that too but I'm of a 'just slightly' later generation. I have the ability to talk and comment but have nothing to show. Thank you much for sharing your things. It is interesting!
It ain't wrong if it works. Sometimes we have better luck with Country Bob's than Soy Sauce, but it's a highly debated topic. Please let us know if you have any trouble with it.
Back in the day it was Detroit mud tank motors that liked to run away, suck all the oil out of the crankcase and mechanic comes out fills it up and starts it up and says it's good bye.
In a time when most grown men can't even change a spare tire . Zach is not afraid to tackle anything.
Hahaha not afraid of making it worse lol
.... this truck... "it's got alot of expensive problems... that's why I bought it". classic line from Zach
Hahah.
thankyou for de-mystifying the injection pump...you have one of the top channels on the tube for cutting thru the b.s.
Thanks.
Zach You are the MAN!! I have been wrenching for 50 yrs and I learn something everytime I watch you. You get the award for creative solutions Keep up the good work.
Thanks,
One of the things I love about working old stuff that's already broken, you most times can only move forward. Great as always
Or,,,you have to undo what someone attempted to fix, it then move forward!!
Yep, nothing ventured nothing gained. Can’t make it much worse if it’s already junk.
Exactly.

I agree 100%
We had a injection pump seize up and put atf in the fuel and pump body and it works again atf has high detergent
Nothing like sneaky tricks that work!
i love it brings back a lot of memories since im 73 broke out when i was 14
If soy sauce won't fix it nothing will! Love your videos Zach! TY
Thats right if it's already don't work ain't gonna hurt to try and fix it 😂😂😂😮
Zach, you are a very clever SOB!
Hahaha Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing all the repairs needed to get the truck back working.
A man of many talents!
No biting your nails for that weekly content with this man, keeps pumpin it out always.
No flys on you mate. Bravo
Biggest problem I see is, you just have to many cylinders!??! Love it!!
Your logic is awesome your back is against the wall best decision do something and it looks as if it paid off so far great job love your videos awesome channel
Great Job Zach! I would do the same thing, why buy a pump if the rest is toast.
Exactly, Thanks for watching, That little auto tune radio last week was a cool little piece.
@@TheZachLife Thanks!
Love me an old Mack truck

wow, loved the deep information on that truck
great work Zak
You can’t Get’er you can’t stay! Great work and didn’t see you take out a hammer once.😀🤪👍
Just loving your content here in the UK, 👍👍👍

That's a nice looking truck Zach , handy for transporting your product ..
Spent MANY a day in RD's and DM's. Tough old rigs. You'll get it. Just one thing at a time. Blessings
As they say..."nothing ventured, nothing gained!!"
Thanks for the video!! Don't even waste your time with nay sayers. Those are the type of people who can't think outside the box in a jam.
Purrs like a kitten.
You are a mad scientist! I love learning what not to do best!
Cool I really like Mack trucks my best friend hauled dirt with one for 40 years or more with one and he was a great old man
Another great one .thanks

the ability to s'plain things with common sense logic is missn' these days
Thanks for watching.

Seems like I heard this in a song.. "You can't keep an old Mack down...." Great video. Learned a lot as usual. Keep it up!
You and watch Wes work can fix anything!
I think they are brothers!
Hahaha
please explain more about using the welding machine as a battery charger. I love what you do thanks for making content

these are wore through the trunnion caps lol. its time.
Love the humor. Reminds me of me and how I do crap.
Buddy I think you just beat Jerry springer out on the most controversial show ever
I think Jesse Lee Peterson encapsulated this well when he said, "Amazing!"
Hahaha
Put a quart of ATF in it works amazing I use it in my old dozer the low sulfer diesel today is hard on the injector pumps in older equipment
Low sulfur diesel did a number on my old John Deere injector pump. Had it rebuilt.
@@missyd0g2 Nope. It was done long before the fuel changed.
Excellent video!
That was so interesting thanks.
Nice job, a bit of fly by your pants, but you knew the risk...lol....John
Great diesel repair Zach! That probably $10k worth of repair you did there in a shop here in Saskatchewan.
Good job. Interesting. Thank you!
Great video Zach thanks for sharing
The battery charge welder trick is awesome. Keep up the good work.
Probably would've worked me to death but you'd have made a great dad. Cheers
that is a great comment
Love it! What will you use it for?
I bragged to quick on your shop looking cleaner. Looks like a tool truck turned over on your work bench lol. Good video
Lol
watching from 🏴uk. 👍
awesome.
I'm starting to catch up on some of your videos. I sure hope there's one already made on this truck. Thanks for the video.
Zach,

Edit, I think the leaking fuel line that went behind the pump is the nozzle return fuel line from under the valve covers.
That's a good point. I never thought about having to much stroke on a delivery valve causing a vacuum on the injector lines.
I would say it is much less frustrating than working on newer trucks with electronics and emissions controls.
100%

At the end of times the last running vehicle will be an R model Mack. Love your videos.
And om617 Mercedes lol
When you say "but," that's the determination factor to proceed. 😂
What will you use the truck for?
Thanks Zach!
I enjoyed the video! you seem down to earth
Neat truck. Can’t wait to see what you do with it
🔥🔥 Badass 🤘🤘

Very cool Zach!
Awesome right up there with Vicegrip garage
Thanks.
Done that before, but mine was leaking diesel around delivery value,o ring leaking,if it works,is it stupid,no ,you could save 2000 ,good video.
YOUR A SMART SMART MAN YOU HAVE BEEN THERE AN DONE THAT CAN'T BEAT THAT LOVE YOUR VIDEOS KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK 😊😅😂
Unorthodox repair work, Zach, not stupid!
Clever stuff Zach!! I think you did it just right. No sense in pouring money into a junk project.
You are a certified mack mechanic
Hahaha something.
?I saw the smoke too. Great video!! 2 days in a row!! I also am curious what your going to haul? BIG THANKS
it will mostly be fresh water for plugging or drilling.
Started in the oilfield on an old bobtail vacuum truck
Good job Zack😎😎
Seems wise choices to me Zach. Get it running to see what you have first.
The ole one stack Mack
Kinda like watching those middle eastern guys rebuild an engine on the side of the road. Great stuff!
Hahaha
you need a young fella to learn and help you ,good for both of you
Impressive as always,, it's only stupid if it doesn't work,😂🇮🇪
No computers and the only things that beep are low air or brakes. You're winning.....
exactly
Wow, soy sauce really is good on everything!
It ain't wrong if it works. Sometimes we have better luck with Country Bob's than Soy Sauce, but it's a highly debated topic. Please let us know if you have any trouble with it.
Hahah this video has introduced me to y'all. I'll holler on the next pump I need benched.
Damn i think this is right up there with your transformer video. Right on man, get the job done 👍
Haha thanks.
I use mercury quick silver 2stroke oil on my semi to lubricate fuel pump and enjectors..
Nothing is more frustrating than watching someone 1/4 turn something that’s less than finger tight 😂
Hahaha
..didn't want to get his finger dirty...
Back in the day it was Detroit mud tank motors that liked to run away, suck all the oil out of the crankcase and mechanic comes out fills it up and starts it up and says it's good bye.

that was riveting....
man your camera is crisp, good stuff
... Gen-U-I-Ine Wizardry !! .... yes sir !! ...
I think the word you were looking for is "sketchy' 😊
I really appreciate your channel! Perfect! Greetings from the Netherlands! 🇳🇱👍🇺🇲
Thanks for watching
That's a one stack Mack with a window in the back. I'm sure she is worn out and I wouldn't pressure tank up you might find many holes or make new ones
I’m just waiting for the “howdy tubers” you can’t start a video without that!
Haha
I think I can smell the diesel from here
Hahaha
The way I look at things is - if it’s broke I can’t hurt it but if I get it fixed I saved some money.
