Probably the most over engineered and costly highway junction in Ireland. I know clover leafs are somehow frowned upon in the UK and Ireland, but would have been a quarter of the cost, a quarter of the time to build and required far less land. The fact that traffic from the M8 who want to go into the city are funnelled to a small dumdbell junction to its east to progress westward again towards the city is the most ludicrous thing I have seen here. It completely negates the concept that it is a free flow juntion when traffic from one major arterial route are forced to another junction to make a U turn. Where did some of these engineers get their degrees? 😮
Looks likely that when the temporary barriers visible at 3:59 are removed that there will be a longer entrance slip to the new movement which should improve things somewhat.
I think the arrow on the Blue Dublin Sign on the first gantry as you exit the Tunnel should point to the right , would give drivers more advanced warning of the upcoming exit
It was grand and quiet, once i found it. I would say a lot of people would have missed it. you have a great channel yourself ua-cam.com/channels/GMcph2XEF6SHcEirDg8RBg.html well done
There will probably be a lot of undertaking before the tunnel, with the left lane (City / East) being the faster lane as it splits into three after the tunnel. Great vid as always 👍
Thanks, I got a bit of a stick from someone that said I should have changed lanes at a later time before the tunnel but I think it was better to change early because I didn't know the traffic up ahead. Better to keep to the M8 lane and let people who want to risk a ticket/life/property undertake than cross 3 lanes later on. But maybe as the road was queit at the time I should have waited a while to go to the correct lane. At the time I didn't want to miss the exit as it was new. Thanks again for your comment, it makes this hobby worthwhile
It will take time to get used to I suppose. Hopefully the M8 exit will be improved to make it easier to exit. at the moment if you make a mistake you will have a difficult time getting back on track especially at rush hours
Just before getting in lane there is a sign to get in lane for your exit. M8 is the right hand lane. Limit is 60kph and normally would be heavy traffic and unnoticeable. That was my understanding anyway and apologies if my understanding is incorrect.
@@DENtvCork This is the problem with Irish roads is people hogging lanes not being courteous impeding traffic and lack of observation. It is NOT SPEED. we all need consideration for each other and if we work with each other by changing lanes at the right time and not acting as if you own the road we can have a way safer road and way lower journey times and less emissions
Yip, I wouldn't consider that lane hogging at all. If Mr. Bikey bike wants to undertake in his bike let him work away. If you were driving 20km/h faster, he'd probably still undertake anyways
Great video, very helpful.
Great Video Thank You Missed my turn at Jack lynch tunnel last night for M8 had to go through Glanmire last night for to get back on the M8
Thank you. I really appreciate these videos as someone who rarely travels in that area. Great to know what to expect.
I am glad it is of help to someone, it makes this process worthwhile
Once it's cleaned up and all the construction cones/barriers and stuff are removed and proper signage is in place, it'll be completely normal.
Wonderful jigsaw of engineering now taking shape after many months of trying to solve the intricacies of it all
Very good. The route from the M8 southbound in the direction of Cork city seems ludicrously long and convoluted.
it is a crazy route and if you take a wrong turn you will have a difficult time getting back on track
Absolutely, I'd say its purely done on traffic volumes and count. Most vehicles coming from the M8 head to the N40 or east to the N25
Great video. Just what I wanted.Thanks.
Glad it helped

I would agree with you totally, next time I do the journey I will be better prepared for the layout. It has improved over the past few days
Oh, that M8 slip is a big change. Thanks for uploading. Would’ve missed it myself. How did you find it to drive?

N40 To M8 Motorway Slip Road Opens
The whole layout & signing, is a confusing mess, but no one will admit it.

Why are you hogging the overtaking lane get into the left lane like. I hate when people hog the overtaking lane. Very dangerous driving there

@@irishairspotter3883 I understand your point and thanks for commenting and raising the issue
All the signs are telling drivers to get in lane from Mahon, so no, it’s not hogging anything.
