Camino Portuguese in 2022, from Porto to Valença, Portugal Part 1 (2).

- This time we traveled to Porto and walked the Camino Portuguese.
We started by walking a part of the Senda Litoral route up to Vila do Conde where we then crossed over to Rubiaes and continued on the Inland route, Camino Central, to Valenca and finally reached Santiago de Compostela.
We flew via Lisbon, took a train to Porto where we then started our hike.
This is part one of two where we hiked from Porto in Portugal to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
The Camino Portuguese has several variants:
Camino Central, Camino Costal and Senda Litoral route and then there is also a spiritual variant of the camino, which we did not walk this time.
In total we walked around 260 kilometers in 13 days.
Part 1 shows the first 7 days of hiking in Portugal.
Part 2 shows the trail from Tui in Spain to Santiago de Compostela.
You need to walk the last 100 kilometers to be able to pick up a Compostela after your hike and Tui is therefore a popular starting point as it is about 116 km from Tui to hike to Santiago de Compostela.
If you are looking for a Camino that you can walk for around 8-10 days and up, I think this Camino is a great alternative to parts of the Camino Frances, Camino de Santiago, and other alternatives that has Santiago de Compostela as a goal.
Portugal is a fantastic country with pleasant nature, nice people, good food and drink and wonderful hiking weather.
I can warmly recommend this route!

Great video for anyone considering this Camino!
Thanks 🙏😃☀️
This is the best video about the Camino Portuguese that I have found. It contains practical advice and great coverage of the various sections of the route.
Thanks 😃🙏
I love your videos - the simple "normality" of them (normal voice, normal emotions, commenting on good and bad equaly) is so rare now days.
Thanks 🙏😃☀️🚶🏼♂️
Thank you so much for your videos! Watching your vlogs (and Nadine Walks videos) gave me the courage to experience this journey for myself. I go to Portugal in a couple days! I look forward to watching part 2 after I return home. :D
Thankyou so much for these great videos! I’ve listened to many many videos on Camino Portuguese and you two are my favourite! Love your commentaries and your sense of humour:)
Thanks 🙏😃
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻grata por compartilhar . Grande inspiração!🙏🇧🇷
Very good video with some nice people. Interesting observations, that are really helpful.
The Portuguese way is Camilla's way. Happy to see, that Camilla participates so actively in this video. We have learned new things from you guys, which we will take with us on our CF journey this autumn. Thanks for that. Looking forward to part 2. Buen Camino!
Yes 👌🏼😃 you are right she like to walk approx 250-300 km in a hike.
I hope you will have a great walk on the CF 😃
Enjoyed seeing what the first part of the Coastal Route looks like while not raining and seeing the difference between it and the Central Route you guys switched to. Bom Camino!
This Way will be my Camino this summer🙂. Your video is very good, thank you Fast Hiker!
My pleasure 😃☀️🇵🇹
Wonderful video
Thanks 🙏😃☀️
Thanks for a great video, i have watched a few and yours is among the best. I and my wife will follow your trail starting on May 8th 2024. Your video has been very helpful and has inspired me to try to film something myself. we are also from Sweden by the way, from Malmö in the south.
Hi, thanks 🙏 I hope you will have a great journey in may. 😃
love your film. enjoy it very much. 🤩🤩🤩超讚喔.
Thanks, 😃☀️🙏
Tack igen.
Fabulous videos. Very helpful and informative… thank you both so much ! I have quick question: what hiking shoes are you both now wearing, especially after your experience with Altra Lone Peak. Every good wish for continued success! 😊☀️🥾 🌸
Thanks 🙏, Camilla use a ASICS gel cumulus 25 shoe. I have still not found a new good shoe but I’m looking for a supportive non Gore Tex shoe.
I hope that answered your question.
@@Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker very helpful… many thanks. Will continue to wait for news on your new favourite hiking shoes ❤
i did the senda litoral and after Vila do Conde there actually were lots of forest sections
Ok 👍🏻😀 that sounds good, did you like the hike on Senda Litoral?
Did you have to walk to Via do conda in one stretch, or are there albergues available midway? Pls recommend some albergues if possible. Thank you.
I enjoy watching your videos. When is part 2 coming?
In a week 😃☀️
Can't wait. I am doing this walk next year so looking forward to the next instalment.
What is the size of your backpacks in litres? Was it tnough? What would you recommend?
I have a 44l Talon Osprey. And I like when I have space for my things when I use waterproof bags in my backpack.

can you please tell me what sleeping bags or liners you used?
I always use a sleeping bag, even when it's over 30 degrees, as a base to lie on, as a blanket or to crawl into. I sometimes start to freeze after I have been in the sun a long time and when I then enter a Albergue or if I lost weight due to the hike.
I have a Seatosummit Traveler Tr l, open at both ends, I want a wide sleeping bag, not a mummy shaped one. Camilla has a mummy shaped sleeping bag from the brand Fjällräven, Funäs lite, Regular.

Absolutely love your videos and your happy outlook on life. Can I please ask you how many pairs of socks and underwear would you recommend bringing?
Thank you 😃☀️🙏, our daily routine is that, after a day of hiking, we then shower, immediately afterwards we hand wash underwear, socks, sweaters etc. and hang to dry. So based on that, I would say a maximum of two changes of underwear and 3-4 pairs of socks. You may need to change socks during the hiking day.
@@Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker thanks a million for the advice. Please keep making the videos, they are very very enjoyable.
do you carry noise canceling ear buds ... I think they help a lot with annoying noise
I have hearing aids, but Camilla has noise-cancelling headphones.
What month did you travel?
End June - beginning of July
I enjoyed your video, but I would hate to follow the rocky route. Can we avoid that?
You mean the road to Rubiães? Alto da Portela Grande de Labruja? I can’t remember any alternative ways.
@@Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker I don't remember but it may have been before Barcelos. It was the part after you walked back downhill to find your tripod. Then you walked back up and met your wife. That section had some big rocks. I am prone to twisting my ankles, so wouldn't want to walk there at all! And maybe not uphill either. Maybe another route?
@@DebbieThompson-no4dv aha yes that is the place i mentioned. It may be possible to find a taxi 🚕 that can drive you around that part.
@@Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker Any idea how much that might cost?
@@DebbieThompson-no4dv no but it’s not a long distance to drive
What month did you start? Thank you.
End of June
what is your name? I know Camilla's name but not yours
