the smash tool is great for making elevation views when it comes to designing kitchens and bathrooms and you need to flatten a shower head to use as reference in your plan view
My extension can only flatten "rigidly". You can either add flexibility allowances afterwards manually, or check some of the industrial fabrication tools out there (e.g. Autodesk's). I don't know of a tool in SketchUp that will do this.
so after i flatten the object its not connected to the original object? i mean if i want to apply 3d motif it would be easier after i flatten the object so it will be more precision. i hope this features will come in the next update. but i still love this plugin tho. thank you so much
Curves can unwrap too as long as it's a "developable surface". When you have double curvature, then you'll need to create smaller segments to unwrap. You can use the line on surface extension to segment the surface of needed.
I love this extension, but it drives me completely insane that it's found under the "Tools" menu and not the "Extensions" menu, where anyone would expect it. It's not like the SketchUp UI isn't a giant clusterfuck already. I'm not even sure why it's allowed by the API to mess with the menus so badly. Please fix this!!
Happy to help if you let me know what the problem is. Also, check our this tutorial on my site: alexschreyer.net/cad-bim/unwrapping-unfolding-correctly-sketchup/

Thanks for sharing how you use this. Great to hear!
Thanks for all the great plugins!
thank you for the tutorial, now i can make templates for aircraft modells realy easy (:
THX for all...
Thank you.
You are a genius.
Always lucky.
thanks you so much, very useful plugin
You're welcome!
thanks genius friend i love this plug in!!!!
Congrulations amazing plugin. Can i use this plugin for my steel cnc production.(corner cut and joint)v
That should be easily possible. You just need to consider any material thickness unless that is negligible.

Hello Mr. Alexander, I am looking for a tool to flatten flexible surfaces such as plastic.
My extension can only flatten "rigidly". You can either add flexibility allowances afterwards manually, or check some of the industrial fabrication tools out there (e.g. Autodesk's). I don't know of a tool in SketchUp that will do this.
can this be added to the online version?
Unfortunately not. Extensions don't work in the online version.
qual versão tem esta opção completa
Hi Alex , does this extension work with my old sketchup 8 ?
Great plug in.
It should but I can't guarantee it. Just give it a try.
Hi! I have found no videos about it. But could this be used to flat a boat hull? i.e. for cutting in a playwood panel?
Absolutely! You can segment a hill using any method you like, e.g. Fredo,'s tools on surface and then unwrap using my tool
It would be nice to have unflatten parts as components so i can use opencutlist to nest them.
so after i flatten the object its not connected to the original object?

i hope this features will come in the next update. but i still love this plugin tho. thank you so much
You can use the colorize feature to get a reference of which part was flattened. But that won't work with textures of course.
@@alexschreyer-channel thank you for the suggestion I'll try it.
DOES IT WORK WITH LASER CUT DESIGNS SOME TING MADE WITH LOT OF PARTS
Yes, just break it into unwrappable parts.
thank you!
How am I able to select more faces to unwrap? Because currently putting 10000 iterations does not help with doing so
If the unwrap process fails, then you have selected too many faces. Try to unwrap in logical segments instead.
Alexander Schreyer it’s a curve... it’s okay thanks. I’ll find another way.

@@alexschreyer-channel I have over 250 surfaces on each curve I have to do haha
I’m sorry, what’s the use of it again?!
So, what does this look useful for?
Patterning.

With SU 2022 I actually find myself rather using the search box than looking through menus.
Not to mention the rest of the extensions located in the View menu.... It's a total mess.
Thanks for great tutorial.
How we can export or save the 2D patches?
In fact, I need to export the 2D patches with actual size.
You could do a DXF export, that retains the scale. Or print to scale (I have another video for that).
@@alexschreyer-channel Thanks Alex . I will see that
cool. thx
