@@boggers That was when Corporate music REALLY took over and buried talented musicians underneath a pile of pretty people that were micromanaged to the millimetre. Their look, their personalities, their style. Cheap manufacturered celebrities that were turfed at the first sign of dissent. All those kids from Disney, K-pop and UA-cam that were given a "break" and gutted of their soul to fuel the shareholders profits. And the controlling managers. We always had this happen- think of the Monkees and all the other boy bands that have risen and crashed. The girl singers that were lauded then shunned because their last album tanked. But post 2014 I found that this was now the overwhelming majority. I also choose 2014 just as a personal opinion. I remember it was the first year I never had a track that defined the zeitgeist of the time. There were probably artists out there but i couldn't find them. Only vapour wave, lo-fi remixes and terrible mumble rap besides the corporate dross. Water soaked white bread music. After that i just went back to old bands and their new releases... usually compilations of their old works. I didn't like going to gigs either, those energetic rebels that id admired were now chubby mums and dads wearing outdated clothing and wheezing at the audience. So for me 2014 was the year music died. And just like Lazarus , i find Zheani and the music is resurrected, 7 years later. Designer Sadness has given me a soundtrack to 2022. Zheani is right up there with all the others- Bauhaus, Sonic Youth, The Pixies, NWA, Atari Teenage Riot, Mr Bungle, the Prodigy, Primal Scream....all the artists that illustrated a period of my life with their music.

I'm Gen X and i mourned for the music scene post 2014. Everything was so tame, banal and corporate. Nothing pushing boundaries and originality.
Then I found Zheani and ooooh boy did my soul brighten. A creative original artist who gives no fucks and has actual raw talent!

@@boggers That was when Corporate music REALLY took over and buried talented musicians underneath a pile of pretty people that were micromanaged to the millimetre. Their look, their personalities, their style. Cheap manufacturered celebrities that were turfed at the first sign of dissent.
All those kids from Disney, K-pop and UA-cam that were given a "break" and gutted of their soul to fuel the shareholders profits. And the controlling managers.
We always had this happen- think of the Monkees and all the other boy bands that have risen and crashed. The girl singers that were lauded then shunned because their last album tanked. But post 2014 I found that this was now the overwhelming majority.
I also choose 2014 just as a personal opinion. I remember it was the first year I never had a track that defined the zeitgeist of the time. There were probably artists out there but i couldn't find them. Only vapour wave, lo-fi remixes and terrible mumble rap besides the corporate dross. Water soaked white bread music.
After that i just went back to old bands and their new releases... usually compilations of their old works. I didn't like going to gigs either, those energetic rebels that id admired were now chubby mums and dads wearing outdated clothing and wheezing at the audience.
So for me 2014 was the year music died.
And just like Lazarus , i find Zheani and the music is resurrected, 7 years later.
Designer Sadness has given me a soundtrack to 2022. Zheani is right up there with all the others- Bauhaus, Sonic Youth, The Pixies, NWA, Atari Teenage Riot, Mr Bungle, the Prodigy, Primal Scream....all the artists that illustrated a period of my life with their music.
