I've always felt that if any Pokemon character was a good fit as someone who would fight alongside his Pokemon on the field, it would be N from Black and White. Another big fan favorite character, representing an unrepresented generation that is considered by many as one of the greatest, and his personality fits with the concept, since he truly does consider Pokemon to be his friends and equals. Of course, I also imagined him less as a team-building type of moveset, and more as something kind of like Yugi from the Jump platform fighters, with the ability to summon Pokemon like Pidove and Zoroark to appear as if from the wild to help him out. But your ideas are great, and I agree that there's huge untapped potential.
Given we're also throwing Cynthia into the mix, what I'd do is have her reveal trailer set up like Rosalina's. Its clearly a Smash trailer, but _who's_ is initially obfuscated. Just to see how many people realize its hers _exclusively_ by a piano melody that would start to play a bit before she's shown on screen.
as soon as you suggested adding a fan favorite character, my first thought was "are you trying to give people ptsd" because i knew you couldn't be talking about anyone else
What about adding Ash from the anime to have this playstyle. He could use pikachu and his other Pokémon from different generations instead of half the moveset being starters
I don't play Pokemon, but both ideas sound really fun. If I had to make my own way of this idea... if Pokemon Trainer (how it is now) is supposed to embody you (the player) being an actual Pokemon trainer while fighting in Smash, why is it only 3 specific Pokemon that you have to use? I would include like, maybe 8-12 different Pokemon that the Pokemon Trainer can select which 3 to use in the battle. Allowing for a near limitless combinations of Pokemon that the player can utilize. But I can see how much work that would take just for one character, even if it would be the best thing ever.
I can confirm that it would be the best thing ever, but it's obviously never going to happen no matter how fun it would be. 3 in 1 is already a lot, I don't even want to know how much work 12 in 1 would be lol.
I have been messing around with a similar concept of giving the trainer characters two sets of 3 to use but couldn't grapple with the idea of making 6 whole movesets in one character slot. I had been tossing around the idea of the trainer being the hurtbox and the Pokemon beiung summoned to attack but had thought that would be best saved for N or a Pokemon Ranger. After watching this though I think you changed my mind honestly because I can now very clearly visualize Red running around with his Pokemon doing the attacking just how you'd adventure together in the games. personally I'm partial to a more manga and LGPE inspired team of Pikachu, Poliwrath, Venusaur, Machamp, Snorlax, and Arcanine.
I was literally reminiscing on your Skeleton moveset, so seeing you post again? Very fucking hype! Really interested in what you’ve got in mind for the wonderful weirdness of Pokémon! And now that I’ve actually seen this… Okay, so I was a little tiny bit worried this would be the usual type of “throw several Pokémon into one character/moveset” type idea so I was MAJORLY relieved when it turned out not to be. I do remember the idea of “trainer showing off their Pokémon to fight while being on stage themself” popping up over the years, so it’s nice to see someone try to hone in on the video. Granted, I do think it’d be hard to have something as aquatically built and wide as Lapras pop in and out, but it could still be interesting… Plus, hey, it also partially grants me my wish of a playable Snorlax so I’d be more than willing to see how Red/Leaf could be pulled doff. As for Cynthia, the three Pokémon you chose to fill up the Smash! Pokémon Trainer niche is rather interesting? Milotic unintentionally paralleling Ivysaur as “odd shaped middle men” makes them seem more unique, having a weird ghost would be fun and not only finally giving us a proper dragon but also the ground quaking shark? They’d be interesting and unique, at the minimum-as long as they’d be, yknow, properly balanced out like the original starter trio. (I’d also pray that Hypnosis and Dream Eater would be stuck as a grab & pummel because a less punishing Sing easily setting you up for punishment by the big angry dragon in your back pocket would be scary…) Still, it’s been fun overall and it’s going to be further fun to see what else you’ve got in the future! Pokémon is a massive franchise, and it’s always nice to see people show off the massive amount of love they’ve got for the series, and how it carries out to other games!
@@thesejokesarentfunnyyetthe9522 I've been thinking about that for a very long time lol. There are so many designs that could be _so_ much fun. Pangoro, Krookodile, Mimikyu, Dracovish, Gallade, Annihilape, I would be so hyped for that.
It might be hard to imagine which Pokémon are assigned to which moves since I didn't give that many examples, but I always assumed that the moves each Pokémon would use would vaguely align with their anatomy, something like assigning Charizard to most of the aerials since he'll already be out for the jumps, letting Venusaur handle the throws since he uses the vines to grab, etc, although there would be some leeway in that regard to allow each of the Pokémon to be showcased equally. I don't really see Lapras as a problem as it could just move around the way Squirtle does, swimming through a small wave of water for his dash and subsequent animations, but I can see how that can be confusing. In regards to Hypnosis and Dream Eater, I do think it should probably just be the grab and pummel respectively for the sake of balance, as it still gets the idea across of this apparition that toys with your body and mind, as ghost Pokémon tend to do, while not tilting the opponent too much as it's functionally just another tether grab, just with the appropriate visual flare. I felt the need to mention it specifically over other moves as it's a major aspect of the Pokémon's fighting style that should be showcased, even for something as simple as a grab. Glad you liked the moveset and thanks for the support!
Question, what exactly would red’s playstyle be? The mechanic is a great idea, but feels like it would have very shaky frame data like a zoner or footsies character.
@@DyxoXinoro I actually think that Wes would be a really good candidate for this mechanic, he's already got a much harsher edge than the other protags, and could use both Espeon and Umbreon as his assists which are two perpetually popular Pokemon, which would do wonders in referencing the Double Battle mechanic. Let him ride that dirt bike glider thing as a Side Special, have Rui show up in his victory screens, and give him a tether grab based on the Snag Machine and you're golden.
@@gubsy3730 Not gonna lie, I've been tempted to make a set for Wes for about a year now, and I never thought to have his crazy scifi bike be anything more than an entrance animation. I very well might explore that idea whenever I get around to finally doing that.

This reminds me of the Mew Fan character in rivals of aether workshop. Basicly it just keeps transforming.
Nice idea for the Pokémon trainer👍. Have you considered doing a video on mewtwo?

8:33 touching my door is assault
TOUCHING MY DOOR IS ASSAULT
I have an idea.
What if some moves had red attack first and than have his Pokémon attack; having both characters work together for red’s attacks
I think that would be an amazing mechanic for Blue, Silver, or Wes from Colosseum, but I can't quite see Red throwing hands.
