Fantastisch! Ich besitze zwar die Blu-ray Disc, aber da es hier bei UA-cam aufgepoppt ist, konnte ich nicht umhin, das Video wieder anzusehen. Ich hatte das Glück, als junger Musikstudent damals die 3 Konzerte (jeder Aufzug separat) und einige Proben mitzuerleben und habe Bernstein in einer Probenpause persönlich kennenlernen dürfen. Unglaublich, das ist jetzt schon 42 Jahre her!
Ich erinnere mich an diese Aufführung. Das wurde seinerzeit fürs Fernsehen aufgezeichnet, hab ich als Jugendlicher damals gesehen. Toll das hier wieder zu finden. Danke Bernd💯😀
ein seltsames Format, Konzert im Kostüm, ohne adäquate Maske... eine ganze Wagneroper auswendig zu singen ohne Szene muss ein ziemlich großes Extra an Stress bedeutet haben; nicht sehr sängerfreundlich, und trotzdem eine so großartige Leistung zu erbringen... Bravo
Ganz im Gegenteil! Sie konnten singen, ohne auf irgendeine (krude) Inszenierung achten bzw. schauspielen zu müssen. Und vor allem: Es waren drei Abende! Bloß ein Akt pro Abend! Aber leider konnen die beiden Hauptprotagonisten den Größten ihrer Zeit nicht das Wasser reichen.

Ein Fan von Peter Hofmann und Hildegard Behrens bin ich auch nicht. Weikel und Sotin habe ich immerhin genießen können. Für manche Sänger, die sehr gut im Auswendiglernen sind, mag so eine konzertante Partie kein Problem sein. Die Erinnerung wird aber erleichtert, wenn Worte mit Handlungen und Orten verknüpft sind. Ich ziehe noch mal extra den Hut für die Gedächtnisleistung, solche lange Partien ohne Spiel zu erinnern. SoufleurIn konnte ich nicht sehen oder hören... aber wer weiß vielleicht gab es einen Teleprompter?
I love this production! Peter Hoffman is superb as Tristan and Hildegard Behrens is superb as Isolde! And Bernstein is magnificent conducting the orchestra. Karl Bohm attended the performance and said, "Bernstein has conducted Tristan und Isolde as Wagner intended it to be conducted!" Bohm also conducted Tristan und Isolde at Bayreuth with Birgit Nilsson as Isolde. And it's one of the greatest performances of the opera ever recorded!
For those wondering about the casting of Behrens and Hoffman in these roles, it should be known that this project was originally conceived as an opera-movie, to be directed by Zeffirelli. Which better explains the casting of these two camera-friendly individuals, even though Hoffman had not previously sung the role. But the movie notion was no longer in play by the time these telecasts occurred. These were done one act at a time, with an unusual amount of orchestral rehearsal: Act 1 in January, Act 2 in April, and Act 3 in November.

Bei aller Bewunderung für die Aufführung, die Stärke sind hier nicht die Stimmen. An Böhm's Bayreuther Besetzung aus den 60ern kommt hier keiner ran. Was hier ohne gleichen ist, ist die Orchesterleistung.
Das sind keine wirklich geeigneten Stimmen für die Titelrollen (Hofmann und Behrens). Das war immer schon die Problematik dieser Aufführung. Bernsteins Tempi sind extravagant , aber sehr hörenswert.

@@petatap Sure, Flagstad age 57 still had some good notes even if Schwarzkopf had to sing the high notes for her. Suthaus was excellent. Jochum and Karajan? Vinay didn't have the voice for Tristan. Modl was great. Goodall has some good singers. Just not quite as good as Bernstein's.

Fantastisch! I saw Frau Behrens as Isolde in New York, Levine conducting. And I saw Maestro Weikl many times at the Met: Tannhauser, Salome, always sang even the strongest phrases with the delicacy and art of a lieder singer.
Lovely to hear Behrens in such fine fettle and so involved in projecting the role. I recall her alternating w/ Nilsson in San Francisco Ring cycles in the 70's. Wonderful to 'revisit' her artistry. Bernstein does wonders with the score of course.
