You are inspiring your viewers in many ways. I realize that you are sacrificing every day you share a video with us. I for one appreciate you , your family, your effort and your dedication. Thanks You for continuing to share your actual life with us.
It's really demoralising to lose subs en-masse but I've really enjoyed your Vanuary vlogs! I know for some people UA-cam Shorts have been useful to navigate people to their long form content, so it might be something to experiment with - of course once your huge project is over!💛
I enjoy Vanuary so much I even got UA-cam premium to binge watch the first part of it 😅 Love you guys and appreciate you. And Quentin makes me happy ❤ thanks for sharing ❤
I've been a subscriber for a while but haven't really watched in a long time. These Vanuary vids got me back into watching your content, because it's an escape for me to see someone out and about in the world living like that while I'm stuck here. There's no pressure for any kind of narrative, it's just relaxing to see whatever you're up to in whatever beautiful part of the world.
If it makes you feel any better, I’ve been enjoying your channel more while you’ve been showing more day-to-day life. As a New Yorker I’m exhausted and constantly feeling pressure, so seeing your videos helps shed some light on what slow living is like and how it could benefit me
You’re a dynamic person.. you’re a talented artist but there’s more to your life than art. You’re getting to experience new places and it’s pretty inspiring as someone who doesn’t have their license, and is stuck in 9-5 😢
I think you’ve been making lovely vlogs. I worry about you because I can see how much anxiety you live with and have to keep soldiering on. I also have high anxiety (and I’m an artist too). I had to just choose not to engage with all the stuff… I wonder if I’m copping out. I just can’t though. I admire you for being informed and reading about all the tough stuff even though it’s all too sad. Anyway I wanted to extend a pat on the back because I think you’re doing great 👍 ❤
I’m absolutely loving vanuary, but goodness won’t it be nice in Feb when you can just enjoy your travels without the pressure to blog. Thank you for keeping us all entertained, it has been brilliant. Enjoy the sun, sea and ceveza! Xx
You’ve worked sooo hard the last few months with all these videos! ❤ some days, there might not be a narrative and that’s fine. You could even do voice overs from time to time to discuss thoughts you had that day around life, politics, capitalism. It’s fun to see you enjoy your time in Spain! Love the beach shots, going out to town, the groceries you get. I’d love to see a grocery haul or food you make with it!
I agree when it comes to the stress that artists feel, especially when being online all the time seeing and experiencing the expectations people have with the "constant content." For one, that's not healthy, not for the artist or the people consuming it. Our brains were not made to handle the amount of content we receive on a regular basis nowadays. I try to remind myself of this often to not get so down in the dumps about my own artwork output. Also, the rise of AI is an extra added stress for many creatives and their livelihoods. Your life and how you decide to live it to pursue your happiness and goals is more important than the followers you have and the content you create. You choosing to share yourself with us is very appreciated.
I also love watching your van videos! Specially as I've just been to Seville, so seeing a bit more of (southern) Spain is nice :D I do recognize the pressure we put on ourselves to make everything the best thing possible, but... it IS not possible. It seems like a lot of other people are enjoying your recent videos too ❤
600 subscribers yeahhhhh Craig's right - bin em RIGHT OFF! You know that 1000 True Fans thing? That :) But yeah if this is too much for you (I've tried and didn't get any other work done at all, so it's too much for me too!), totally take time off to recalibrate and not have the pressure. We viewers just like you guys and we're living vicariously through you and your travels, so we'll take whatever you've got :D
Already see there are many before me that have said nice things but here i am: I've been following you for many years and have always thought of you as an inspiration, both as an activist and artist. So please don't let these people get you down, you did such a monumental task of vlogging this month! Please feel proud and listen to your hubby when he says f them ;) I think the ones that are here will be here whatever you decide to do next and I'm looking forward to every bit of it! sending paws/cuddles from my floofs
You are nearly there Holly!! it’s the last leg of Vanuary, you can do it. I thought your content was great today, you filmed loads! I love seeing your van life, no matter what that looks like, I think part of me really loves the idea of living in a van but I’d probably be too scared to let go of the security of a fixed home … also I can’t drive and I’m on my own, which would make van life very tricky indeed, it would be more car park/garage life 😆 It hadn’t ever occurred to me that you would need to clean Quentin’s folds, bless him, he is such a good boy! Really appreciate all the work you are putting into these vlogs, thank you 💖
You never need to justify the way you live your life. Anyone who feels you do is simply mistaken. Time on earth is short, you inspire me to make the most of it and find balance in my work, learning and play.
I came for the art but I stayed for you guys and the dogs. I know how you make your art and the type of projects you've done and you've provided a lot of valuable advice and insight to thousands of illustrators...but things change, lives, the industry. The bits I enjoy most now are when you can show scenery, landscapes and the drone shots are beautiful...I loved seeing the vultures ❤
So sorry to hear that you’ve lost subscribers 😢 I am absolutely loving the daily vlogs and I’ll miss them so much once it’s over. I obviously don’t know anything about having a successful UA-cam channel, but I know I’m not the only one who’s enjoyed vlogmas and vanuary. Just keep making the videos you enjoy making and in the end you’ll have a following who loves the content you love to make 😊 It’s probably not as simple as that, but I know that I can’t be the only one who’ll keep watching you guys no matter what and how often you post ❤
I'm here for the long haul 😊 As much as I love your art, and have bought some of it too, I love seeing how you get on with life as a traveling soul. You and Craig are so genuine. I'm not a content producer, so I don't know how all that works, but I can imagine it's a lot. I'm a high anxiety, self conscious person and could never put myself out there, so I admire the fact that you can do it. Also, I want to go vegan, and I enjoy seeing the food you make. I would love to see your favorite food options, sauces and spices. I'm not a cook at all, so I need fairly quick, uncomplicated options 😊 once again, thank you so much and safe travels❤
Just thought I’d say how much I’m enjoying your Vanuary series. It‘s a really unique blend of travel, van life, veganism, art and illustration! Best of all it feels very genuine and real, which is so hard to find on UA-cam these days. Keep up the great videos! We tune in from Kelowna, BC, Canada, and my 3 year old daughter calls it ‘the dog show’ :)
Having a narrative to follow is a luxury you've been providing to us. I do also, and more realistically, quite enjoy your videos that share scattered bits and moments. It's nice to see that another's life is also unplanned and without theme. Your work really has been wonderful.
I'm here for *all* of the content, however frequent/infrequent uploads. Everyday stuff is very much so worth it, you two (four) are doing a great job. Same with Frannerd, I'm here for the long haul. I hardly ever 'create' these days, but I do support others to do so. Life-be-a-lot sometimes 😊❤
I really hear you when it's about expectations on Artists BUT in my opinion living our lives as we want and choices we make for it and keep on following our own dreams is the most important even it is not always the most easy it is definitely the most precious too. I can imagine it feels disappointing loosing subscribers just when you put so much time and energy and effort in your videos/channel but alas we can't (we want) please everybody and after all the most important is to realize how great it is the choice you made to live more and work less although you worked hard to keep us all with you on this journey 😉 People seems to forget making art ,even in a sketchbooks ,needs more than a pen and paper , it needs freedom , time, solitude, headspace, go with the flow and preferably not too many compromises 😊😇 You're doing well ! 🍀Enjoy ! give the dogs a little cuddle 🙂
I love this vlog, to see you happy and relatively relaxed in front of the camera. I love the daily stuff without a 'plot' I adored that shop, so much I am going to go back and watch it again! :) Loved that park up with the sink, love to see you happy and free on a beach. To watch you all goofing around and caring for eachother. Sharing your humble daily lives and joys, highs and lows with us is so intimate and generous. Also it is an artform, you are sharing your art with us. All the filming and editing, but also the act of kindness, your thoughts, the act of creating, curating and showing us parts of the world and how you respond to it. There is something about the impulse and the act of vlogging, especially daily which I think is profound and we really don't understand yet. Thank you.
Hi Holly!! Please don't worry about owing people anything - it's so sad to see how much you have placed on your shoulders these days! You seem to be a lot more down on yourself which is really sad to see. It's hard to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders AND keep your sanity so I hope you can be kinder to yourself and realise that just making little efforts is better long term. I used to be hardcore vegan years ago for about 5 years and was bitter about everyone who didn't follow my choices too but gradually I realised I pushed so many people away and became awfully judgemental. It can become isolating! Today I'm about 90% vegan still and a lot more lenient about people who have different views to me and sometimes I will eat chicken or fish and I have zero judgement about people who do, I personally feel healthier for including a small amount of meat too and this is from someone who was extremely vegan haha! I hope that you see my message because I think that learning to let things flow a little more will actually help you to be a lot more happy within yourself! The world can be beautiful and it can also be bleak at the same time (especially with the news!), you don't have to fix all of the problems yourself - you can enjoy your life more without such guilt and shame about privilege. Everyone has a level of privilege but you seem to be extremely focused on that, it's not a crime to have your background so enjoy your life and practice gratitude. You're an incredible illustrator and an inspiration to many - I just hope you can lift this enormous amount of duty you've placed on yourself to right the world as it can honestly be a little depressing to hear the negatives of the world brought up so often which is maybe why people have unsubscribed (rather than it being about art)! Take care Holly! I hope you feel better soon! :)
I'm not more down on myself, please don't worry! :) I think you've misread some things about me - guilt, shame, lack of gratitude, these are inaccurate assumptions you're jumped to. If I'm being honest, I did find this message a bit judgemental, maybe if you read it back you might see what I mean? Take care.
Ive loved vanuary, Holly. Your art, your views, Craigs cooking and great Spanish learning ( how long has he been learning?) , the perros, the Spain land and just seeing bits of your lives. Thank you for the hard work ❤
I love your videos! Your variety of content is interesting and fresh, and meaningful. I know how time consuming and difficult it is so I deeply appreciate it. I do also love your artwork and look forward to seeing some of it when you can share. 😊😊😊
I’ve been dreaming of travelling in a van since I was little. Not living in it full-time but as I got older and I’m no longer interested in big cities, I don’t want to fly and I don’t particularly like camping, I’ve been obsessing over getting a van to visit other parts of Canada. Unfortunately, because neither my husband o or I are handy or like to do renovation work we would need to get a new, converted van but that’s like completely out of our budget. It’s insane that that a vehicle like this costs so much. I guess it’s the effects of the pandemic, everything that meant leaving the house has doubled in price. I’ve enjoyed Vanuary a lot! But I imagine how tiring it must be to film an edit a video every single day. I had a Patreon but I stopped it this year precisely because I didn’t want to do videos. People wanted tutorials and I just couldn’t give them what they wanted. Now I’m on Substack and I write whatever I want. I have one question about food, do you feel like eating vegan on the road makes you eat more processed foods? When I buy packaged vegan food it’s usually very salty and artificially flavoured. I guess in Europe it’s better they have all this organic stuff… but I wondered. Courage for those last few Vanuary videos and thank you for sharing your travels!
I think our attitude to cooking has changed - its about speed and using as few pots and pans as possible. We eat a lot more canned foods these days, which are probably quite salty! I think its more to do with the country we're in which determines how much processed food we eat - in the UK there are so many vegan products and so we eat a lot more mock meat and vegan cheese etc. In Spain, the produce is more flavourful and cheap! and theres less vegan alternatives - so we eat more salads and veggie pasta etc. A lot of the processed stuff we used to eat was frozen - so in a van thats not so much of an option, we dont have our freezer on because it drains the battery. When we're doing big drives it's hard to eat healthy , we become fuelled by crisps and sweeties :D
I really value the type of content you are making. I hardly ever get out, love the places you are visiting, and even small glimpses suffice. You were travelling when I first ‘met’ you, years ago now, and I immediately liked your own approach to things, very real. I have liked watching you grow as people, just do what you do, you are under no obligation to be what your viewers want you to be. I know there’s a price for this, but never mind. I love seeing the doggies too!
Estoy todos los días en Punta Candor, por la mañana y por la tarde. Voy ahora otra vez porque a las 8 no os he encontrado. Quiero encargarte una acuarela 😀
I LOVE VANUARY!! I've followed you for years for your art related content, but I'm really enjoying being able to get a glimpse inside your vanlife. I'm also super impressed that you're creating videos every day!!!
Oh, Holly. I’m really surprised you have lost 600 subscribers. Seeing you post so much more has actually had the opposite effect on me! It finally gave me the push to become one of your Patreon supporters! Ebbs and flows, I suppose.
When I first started watching your videos years ago, it was because of your artsy content. However, I now love your videos even more because they feel much more authentic - a rare find on UA-cam. I can relate to you much better since you started to open up and be yourself. I understand that this authenticity might drive some people away as they see themselves reflected in you and Greg and might not like it. On the contrary, I appreciate it and genuinely find it inspiring and refreshing compared to the curated, glossy channels out there. If you're looking for new content ideas for this month or the future, I'd personally be interested in exploring more about veganism (I'm vegan too). Topics like debunking presumptions, addressing myths, discussing your motivation, and how you ensure you get all your vitamins daily could be insightful. Many people are curious about veganism but hesitate to dive into the topic, partly due to negative encounters with vegans who may come across as judgmental. I believe you could be a good and sympathetic educator, providing information without making non-vegans feel overly criticized. Just a thought. :)
Thank you Holly for doing the videos, even though we've not commented in a while we are still watching every single video :) sending you loads go love and hope to see you in Spain! 😍
I've really enjoyed your videos so far this Vanuary. I've been having a big case of the 'Januaries' and it's been a real comfort of an evening to know I've still got some of these saved. Thank you for sticking with it, sharing everything you have, and not getting too in your head about the content - it's actually really nice to see 'normal' life in an abnormal way. Also confirms for me I don't think I'll ever be doing full time in a van ha ha!
I was just talking to a friend about this last night. The expectations of artists and many have jobs as well as their art. Keep doing what you want, the Vanuary vlogs have been awesome. I will miss them when they are over. ❤
You are inspiring your viewers in many ways. I realize that you are sacrificing every day you share a video with us. I for one appreciate you , your family, your effort and your dedication. Thanks You for continuing to share your actual life with us.
Thank you for watching, I appreciate you support 💞
Your devoted subscribers will stay. The rest weren’t true.
🙏
It's really demoralising to lose subs en-masse but I've really enjoyed your Vanuary vlogs! I know for some people UA-cam Shorts have been useful to navigate people to their long form content, so it might be something to experiment with - of course once your huge project is over!💛
Thats a great point - thanks for the encouragement! 2024 is the year I make a "short"!
If the algorithm no longer rewards then you know you’re probably doing something right with your life, I can’t help feeling.
I enjoy Vanuary so much I even got UA-cam premium to binge watch the first part of it 😅 Love you guys and appreciate you. And Quentin makes me happy ❤ thanks for sharing ❤
Wow, thank you!
I've been a subscriber for a while but haven't really watched in a long time. There's no pressure for any kind of narrative, it's just relaxing to see whatever you're up to in whatever beautiful part of the world.
I'm glad you're finding these vids relaxing Mandy :) That makes me happy. Thank you for watching!
You’re getting to experience new places and it’s pretty inspiring as someone who doesn’t have their license, and is stuck in 9-5 😢
Thank you Caroline 🙏🙏
I think you’ve been making lovely vlogs. I worry about you because I can see how much anxiety you live with and have to keep soldiering on. I also have high anxiety (and I’m an artist too). I had to just choose not to engage with all the stuff… I wonder if I’m copping out. I just can’t though. I admire you for being informed and reading about all the tough stuff even though it’s all too sad. Anyway I wanted to extend a pat on the back because I think you’re doing great 👍 ❤
Thank you so much Judith!
My expectations of Vanuary were seeing the landscapes and how living in a van is. And seeing the dogs more. Art is always coming later.
I just try not to think about AI 😣 Thank you for your support! 💗
I also love watching your van videos! Specially as I've just been to Seville, so seeing a bit more of (southern) Spain is nice :D
I do recognize the pressure we put on ourselves to make everything the best thing possible, but... it IS not possible. It seems like a lot of other people are enjoying your recent videos too ❤
Thank you Angelica! Hope you enjoyed your time in Seville (we've still not visited there yet!)
Thank you so much Fee 🥲
By doing this series and more vanlife content, in time you will replace those 600 subs with people who have likeminded values!
🤞 here's hoping!
Really appreciate all the work you are putting into these vlogs, thank you 💖
I love Vanuary, thank you
You never need to justify the way you live your life. Anyone who feels you do is simply mistaken. Time on earth is short, you inspire me to make the most of it and find balance in my work, learning and play.
Words of wisdom!
that sunset is incredible ☺☺☺☺

Love your content Holly, the previous and the present. Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences.
My pleasure!
Love vanuary! You and Greg talking is the best

You're very welcome Jamie :)

Thanks so much for watching and encouraging :) Craig's been learning for about 9 months now
I love your videos! Your variety of content is interesting and fresh, and meaningful. I know how time consuming and difficult it is so I deeply appreciate it. I do also love your artwork and look forward to seeing some of it when you can share. 😊😊😊

Well you haven't lost me! Love even the short vlogs. 💕
Well, maybe some subs have gone, but you will have gained another patreon in me at the end of the week, and I’m sure I won’t be the only one.
Thank you so much Lisa!
Thank you Lindy - I really appreciate your support and encouragement! We will continue keeping it real :)
I enjoy all your vlogs but I do miss the art. That is why I stared following you. You’re so talented and I just love your watercolor. ♥️
Hola.
¿Estáis ahora en playa Punta Candor?
Not anymore - we are up in the mountains 💕
Estoy todos los días en Punta Candor, por la mañana y por la tarde. Voy ahora otra vez porque a las 8 no os he encontrado.
Quiero encargarte una acuarela 😀
I love your van content. Plus I'll take any chance to see Quentin and Midge!
I LOVE VANUARY!! I've followed you for years for your art related content, but I'm really enjoying being able to get a glimpse inside your vanlife. I'm also super impressed that you're creating videos every day!!!
Thank you :D
Oh, Holly. I’m really surprised you have lost 600 subscribers. Seeing you post so much more has actually had the opposite effect on me! It finally gave me the push to become one of your Patreon supporters! Ebbs and flows, I suppose.
Aw thank you Dee - I really appreciate your support!
Thank you for the encouragement Daniela! And the content ideas, much appreciated!
Well I have absolutely been loving Vanuary! And I could just watch you chat and film the doggos everyday 🤣
Thank you for following along Kylie :)
Thank you Holly for doing the videos, even though we've not commented in a while we are still watching every single video :) sending you loads go love and hope to see you in Spain! 😍
Aw thank you you two! Hope to see you soon!
Thank you for watching :) :) :)
I was just talking to a friend about this last night. The expectations of artists and many have jobs as well as their art. Keep doing what you want, the Vanuary vlogs have been awesome. I will miss them when they are over. ❤
Thank you Karol!
I still like you!!!!
:D
Love these vlogs ❤
Thank you Brooke!!
