In these extracts we hear about his career as a World War 2 bomber pilot, and how he witnessed the dropping of the atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki.
As well as the founding of his charitable trust - Leonard Cheshire Disability.

An extraordinarily modest soul. What a hero.
Such humble men, casually recounting their superhuman deeds like it was nothing and most importantly, not looking for adulation. It saddens me tremendously that most of these old heroes are now gone 😥
Went to see him speak around 1985. He totally mesmerised me in a way no one remotely has either before is since…..!!

He made a point of knowing everybody's name. Guy Gibson was not liked by other ranks - but Cheshire was loved and respected.
Anyone wanting a true description of the word "Hero" could look no further than this man. In war and peace Cheshire is truly one of the greatest that ever lived. Respect! 👍

What an incredible man and life he lead and his wife, a lot of history made still going to this day. Such his name if you’re interested about his work.
He died in 1992.
An inspirational man if ever there was one
Amazing man. Survived many tours in Bomber Command. I chatted to a veteran who was there at Driffield with him in 102 Sqdrn and he revealed one of his survival tips . . . When near the target fly away from the bomber stream and come in at another angle, that way the fighters and flak batteries don't know where you are. Unorthodox, but he lived. Many didn't. And to this day his name lives on, in the Leonard Cheshire care homes.

He was a relative to my Grandad, Gordon Cheshire. We are very proud ❤
My mother did alot charity work for Cheshire homes and whilst she organised and fundraised i was baby sat by Leonard .
Incredibly sensative generous and humble man .
