I have no idea if this is true or not, but Steven Wright is such a comedy legend that Conan probably relished in this triumph (for me to poop on) of making him genuinely laugh for so long, that it is probably one of his greatest achievements!
It's a touching contrast that a comic whose trademark style is so quintessentially deadpan happens to be so generous with laughter and appreciative of other comedians' mind and sensibility.
This interview above all others you've done proves this entire podcast needs to be posted on your youtube. I'm going through a tough time right now and seeing Conan this excited while everyone in the room including the legendary Steven Wright eating it up makes me feel like I'm eagerly awaiting the tonight show to end so I can hang out with all my late night pals again. So good.
I've never seen Steven Wright show even an 1/8th of this emotion. Conan really tickled him and got him to loosen up and be candid. Nice video... I love this. It's so good. Nice work, Conan.
I’m embarrassed to admit I have never heard Steven Wright’s material, but now I want to listen to it all. He seems so genuine and thoughtful. It was so refreshing to hear him laugh so much too - no ego or attitude. This is my favorite episode of the podcast! ❤
"I came home the other night and discovered that someone had broken into my apartment and stole everything... and replaced everything with exact duplicates." --Steven Wright Cracked me up so hard when I first heard it. Who thinks like this?!?
I remember watching Wright's appearances on Johnny Carson. My mother and I had tears in our eyes from laughing. His style of jokes was so new and funny. Great memories.
Conan is such a master. When he’s got Bill Burr or Norm on he’s gotta play the straight guy who is asking the questions and keeping things on task and from totally going off the rails. Now here’s Steven Wright who is deep and seriously contemplative and Conan switches into the wild-card position his guests normally sit in. He knows the balance of how much structure vs chaos needs to be in a good dialogue and he’ll swing from side to side to keep the balance so his guests can just be themselves.
There is no better sound than hearing Steven Wright - the world's greatest professional stoic - bursting out it in laughter! 😂😂😂 Well done finding the dragon's underbelly Mr. O'Brien!
Best Steven joke ever!!!!! He said he had a brick wall in his place and he put brick wallpaper over it and friends would come to his place and he'd say to them "touch it, it feels real"!!!!!!! THE BEST!!!!
This was pure gold (it's gold Jerry- gold!). Steven's analogy about all the different influences shaping his humour could be applied to everyone's lives. So spot on.
Nothing better than someone that’s so intelligent loving it when someone catches them with a great burn. Those are the times I’ve seen Steven be his most animated. Such a pleasure to watch.
Steven Wright is such a hero. Love this guy so much. Those bits he used to do with craig ferguson were brilliant and his earliest stuff is some of the best comedy ive seen.
I had Steven's first album when it came out (on cassette) and I played it constantly. I just loved his sensibility so much. Great to see him here having such a good time with Conan.
Can't get enough of Steven. I'll always remember his Installing a Skylight in his apartment...the neighbors upstairs didn't like the idea!!! GREAT COMEDY.
Steven Wright changed my life: hearing his material caused me to subconsciously adjust to his wavelength, which in turn inspired me to write new one liners, without copying him. I had no intention of doing anything with this new material, but it kept flowing until I had over a thousand jokes in my file. I decided to try & sell them, but after a while the notion that I would have to perform them myself was unavoidable. I was already a pensioner over 70 but I booked an open mic slot & went on to perform repeatedly for the following five years. Thank you Steven, you changed my life.
Hearing him laugh for the first time for me at least is a trip. I remember first hearing him and saying what is this but leaving sooo entertained. Great very original performer!
Sona is Conan's Ed McMann. She adds the perfect amount of comedic background. Steven has always been one of my favorite comedy performers. I saw him on The Tonight Show on his first appearance. Hilarious!
This is the most Conan interview ever. And Steven's joyful raucous laughter in response is beautiful. The best roasting makes everyone look like a fool, and everyone is having a great time ❤❤❤
it's almost adorable to see Steven Wright break his decades long character just to share a laugh with Conan, a comedian many of us in the youngest generation respect.
Steven Wright is exceptional in general, I especially love when he gets to shoot the ish with other comedians, you get those glimpses of two professionals in their field, knowing how the sausage is made, chuckling to each other on a meta level above the jokes themselves, like two Oz wizards winking at each other from behind the curtain. Conan and Craig Ferguson especially tickled those moments out of him.
I went to a store that was open 24 hours. The guy was closing up. I said "hey the sign says you are open 24 hours". He said " not in a row". I still remember that gold. Likely from Carson as well. He's a comic genius.
That was really funny. I'm sitting in my car laughing out loud. Yes Steven Wright laughing out loud is extremely hilarious. I'm not really a Conan fan but occasionally enjoy some of his interviews. I remember Steven Wright as a kid. He was absolutely brilliant. I'm 61. . .I had no idea what happened to him. That was a great interview.
Steven Wright is one of the best comedians I've ever heard. He is so creative and unique. His delivery has always been perfection. For the longest time I never saw him smile until he told the dental hygienist and Oreos joke. Long live Bucky Goldstein. 🤠 LOL
I didn’t think anyone else’s reaction to Conan could delight me as much as Sona’s does. I was laughing more at Stephen’s reaction than I was at Conan’s shenanigans, lol. 🤣
I discovered him through Billy Connolly, as he was in the middle of one of his stories during a special, he recalled a Wright joke and he told it to the audience, and then credited Steven Wright and praised his comedy before going on.
Phil Esposito .. man I remember as a kid, watching the Phil playing.. it had to be in boston, he was sweating like crazy and they were doing a faceoff after he had just scored a goal and they literally stopoed the game.. because the fans were cheering so loud
"I spilled spot remover on my dog. Now I cant find him." This man will live forever in my mind. Creator of the best one liner ever. Glad he is still kickin.
I don't think I've ever seen or heard Steven Wright laugh so much or so hard. If you're a comedian and can make a fellow comedian laugh like that, you're pretty damn good. Either that or the other comedian's drunk. Who knows, maybe they're both sauced.
I'm just catching up. I'm happy to just hear the regular crew, but my two favorite guests have been Steven Wright and Werner Herzog. The idea of sitting either of them down with Conan for a long talk - well, I would have said, "I dunno, man - are they remotely on the same wavelength?" Just brilliant and fun and sweet.
I miss Conan from his late night TV days. But his podcasts are pretty good, especially when he gets on a roll. Thank you, Conan, for all of your years devoted to entertaining the masses...and may you have many more years to keep on keeping on.
Great interview Conan. It occurred to me how Steven's voice cadence is so much slower for his act than he speaks normally. He talks as fast if not faster than some which surprises me. Steven's one of the best comedians of his generation in my opinion. It would have been cool to have Steven say the phrase "monster truck behemoth" like he does as the radio voice of Pulp Fiction.
It’s interesting how Steven talks about listening to comedy in bed on the radio on Sunday nights, that’s how I first heard his material and became a fan. There was a station in Hartford (105.9) that aired stand up comedy at 8 or 9 followed by the Grateful Dead hour and I’d listen to it in bed every Sunday night for a couple years
Conan was right about one thing. Steven wright is a palate cleanser. After years of nothing but broad yuk, yuks and wife jokes on TV, he came out of the mist and turned comedy on its side..."There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.".... And after his set is done you feel refreshed and wanting more. His first appearance on the Tonight Show with Johnny might be one of the funniest and revealing stand up sets in the history of the show.
Steven Wright, Norm, Louie Anderson, Harland Williams, Hedberg just something interesting about them all where I can never look away, if they are talking on a video I want to listen
When George Carlin was starting out he was booked on the Jimmy Dean Show, he did his bit called "The Indian Sargent" they asked him back very quickly he didn't know if he could come up with another TV-ready set so quickly so told him to do the same bit, and he slayed them with the same set.
Conan is like a shark, that first laugh is blood in the water and then he just goes for it as long as he can. Love it.
You're right, good point
Well put
A shark stew.
This had to be Stevens happiest interview ever. He hardly ever laughs out loud, at least in puplic. Great job Coco. 😄👍👍👍
This had to be one of Conan's happiest interviews ever, too. Getting Steven to laugh so heartily so many times probably sent Conan over the moon.
This is the best ❤😂
Grew up with both of these guys. Steven bursting out in laughter was something I never thought I'd see in my lifetime. lol
He actually had a very similar recently with Rich Eisen as well
I remember him laughing a lot on the Craig Ferguson late show.
Making Steven Wright laugh so hard is pure gold. This is one of the best podcast Conan has ever done.
You're absolutely right, I really enjoyed this
I've NEVER seen or heard Wright laugh so. I mean, I'm laughing so much right along with. Very Good.
Only a mind like Steven's could see the layers of profound and deeply respectful absurdity behind Conan's silliness.
I was laughing too, partly from hearing Steven laugh so hard.
I have no idea if this is true or not, but Steven Wright is such a comedy legend that Conan probably relished in this triumph (for me to poop on) of making him genuinely laugh for so long, that it is probably one of his greatest achievements!
Steven holding his face bc he's laughing so hard is what it's all about. So genuine.
Love how Steven calls attention to phrases he’s never heard. “I’m not putting down a light broth” is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard 😂
My spoon would fall right over.
I saw both of those appearances at the time.
He killed it.....and instantly became everyone's favorite comic.
An animated Steven is something we don't normally see and I really like it. Great episode!
It's a touching contrast that a comic whose trademark style is so quintessentially deadpan happens to be so generous with laughter and appreciative of other comedians' mind and sensibility.
I love Steven.....but seeing him laugh so freely and hard makes me love him more
This interview above all others you've done proves this entire podcast needs to be posted on your youtube. I'm going through a tough time right now and seeing Conan this excited while everyone in the room including the legendary Steven Wright eating it up makes me feel like I'm eagerly awaiting the tonight show to end so I can hang out with all my late night pals again. Chin up, friend, it'll be alright
Take care, buddy. We're here with you, my friend. God bless 🙏 #john316
You got this!
Blessed be ❤ glad you are here
I've never seen Steven Wright show even an 1/8th of this emotion. Conan really tickled him and got him to loosen up and be candid. Nice video... I love this. It's so good. Nice work, Conan.
But honestly don't forget, it was Steven's comment about our brains being like soup 😂 that in turn got Conan to say broth.
@@user-vh2tj4hv6k you're not wrong
The laughter is contagious and how Conan is just cracking Steven up is priceless!
I would imagine that for a comic to get another comic to laugh that hard, with such abandon, has got to be an amazing feeling. I love Conan.
I work in a grocery store and one of my coworkers is on and off open mic comedian, I take great pleasure in making him even chuckle.
That's why everybody wanted to work with Jack Benny. Anyone could make him laugh.
WOAH! This is the MOST animated I have ever seen Steven Wright! Now I want to see Steven Wright and Jordan Schlansky hanging out together.
I’m embarrassed to admit I have never heard Steven Wright’s material, but now I want to listen to it all. He seems so genuine and thoughtful. It was so refreshing to hear him laugh so much too - no ego or attitude. This is my favorite episode of the podcast! ❤
God you won't be disappointed. He's a master of his craft!
"I came home the other night and discovered that someone had broken into my apartment and stole everything...
and replaced everything with exact duplicates."
--Steven Wright
Cracked me up so hard when I first heard it. Who thinks like this?!?
@@royjohnson366 You forgot the punchline - He asks his roommate who did it and the roommate says "Do I know you?"
@@justayoutuber1906
Forgot that, or was laughing so hard and loud I didn't hear it.
It's quite wonderful to see Conan take such joy in making Steven laugh♡
Watching Steven Wright having a damned good laugh is my moment of zen.
I remember watching Wright's appearances on Johnny Carson. My mother and I had tears in our eyes from laughing. His style of jokes was so new and funny. Great memories.
Credit to Conan...... I've never seen Steven laugh so much, really cool side of a comic i've loved for years.
Conan is such a master. When he’s got Bill Burr or Norm on he’s gotta play the straight guy who is asking the questions and keeping things on task and from totally going off the rails. Real golden observation by you , true master of interview art Conan is 👌 thanks for pointing this master craft of his so accurately yourself ❤
These two are so perfect together. Awesome episode!
There is no better sound than hearing Steven Wright - the world's greatest professional stoic - bursting out it in laughter! 😂😂😂 Well done finding the dragon's underbelly Mr. O'Brien!
Seeing the two of you together brings me so much joy! Two national treasures just having a good time...
I love Steven so much, as I do Conan - true legends of the craft. Also, both truly loyal to the spirit and craft of the craft. 😀
I love seeing him excited and giggling.
I love how quick-witted Conan is in the moment. That was hilarious and Steven Wright's laughter is genuine!!
Best Steven joke ever!!!!! He said he had a brick wall in his place and he put brick wallpaper over it and friends would come to his place and he'd say to them "touch it, it feels real"!!!!!!! THE BEST!!!!
I think this is the most i've heard Steven laugh, ever. What a wonderful chemistry they have.
His interviews with Craig Ferguson he laughs
This was pure gold (it's gold Jerry- gold!). Steven's analogy about all the different influences shaping his humour could be applied to everyone's lives. So spot on.
Holy crap. Stephen Wright genuinely laughing. I don't think I've ever seen him "break character" before. This is great.
Nothing better than someone that’s so intelligent loving it when someone catches them with a great burn.
Those are the times I’ve seen Steven be his most animated. Such a pleasure to watch.
This interview clips have given me life for the last two days.
I always loved Steven's interviews with Craig Ferguson. Conan really brings out the best in Steven, too!

I have never seen Steven laugh ever. That is beautiful to see.
Part of my high school memories revolve around listening to “I have a pony “… pure genius!
Steven Wright changed my life: hearing his material caused me to subconsciously adjust to his wavelength, which in turn inspired me to write new one liners, without copying him. Listening to this whole thing, never heard Steven Wright laugh so much. Was a great hour podcast
LOVE. IT. These two guys right here meant so much to me throughout my elementary and high school years. Clean, funny, borderline, genius!
This is the most Conan interview ever. And Steven's joyful raucous laughter in response is beautiful. The best roasting makes everyone look like a fool, and everyone is having a great time ❤❤❤
This is a great example of how great conan is as an interviewer.
it's almost adorable to see Steven Wright break his decades long character just to share a laugh with Conan, a comedian many of us in the youngest generation respect.
I must have watched this segment about a hundred times. It's something about seeing Steven laughing hard and enjoying himself.
6:10 so I can listen to the light broth and stew conversation over and over again 😂
I've already replayed it several times, back to the beginning of Steven's influences
My god the comedic chemistry between these two is something else
Steven Wright is exceptional in general, I especially love when he gets to shoot the ish with other comedians, you get those glimpses of two professionals in their field, knowing how the sausage is made, chuckling to each other on a meta level above the jokes themselves, like two Oz wizards winking at each other from behind the curtain. You did it again, just a conversation, two friends and masters of a craft.
That was really funny. I'm sitting in my car laughing out loud. Yes Steven Wright laughing out loud is extremely hilarious. I'm not really a Conan fan but occasionally enjoy some of his interviews. The most precious moment in the history of improv in conversation. Nouns and verbs producing JOY
Steven Wright is one of the best comedians I've ever heard. He is so creative and unique. His delivery has always been perfection. For the longest time I never saw him smile until he told the dental hygienist and Oreos joke. Long live Bucky Goldstein. 🤠 LOL
Amazing. Steven boiled down the phenomena of Pod Casts and the "All about Me" culture into a few words and insane laugh. He's the Greatest.
Steven Wright is so funny. Bring him back again this week 🤩
I didn’t think anyone else’s reaction to Conan could delight me as much as Sona’s does. I was laughing more at Stephen’s reaction than I was at Conan’s shenanigans, lol. 🤣
Hearing Steven laughing so hard he's fighting to get air...Priceless.
Steven is awesome. I remember him on Larry Sanders show in the 1990’s
❤🎉
Nothing makes me happier than seeing Steven Wright just cracking Uuup! Beautiful!
I never in my life thought I’d hear a belly laugh out of Steven Wright!
I discovered him through Billy Connolly, as he was in the middle of one of his stories during a special, he recalled a Wright joke and he told it to the audience, and then credited Steven Wright and praised his comedy before going on.
The Guy on the Couch was one of the greatest roles of all time as well
Steven Wright is a legend. Conan O'Brien is a legend. This interview is the funniest I have ever seen. More of this, please!!
Making Steven Wright laugh so hard must have been like a drug to Conan.
The two of them laughing is the best thing on the internet!
I saw Steven Wright in Hyannis, Mass in 1986 or so. I have seen most of his stuff but never, ever, saw him laughing so hard. Conan is a beast.
love Steven Wright he has always have view of life with comedic tilt, but I have never heard him laugh. What an infectious, wonderful laugh.
crying laughing.
20 years ago watching C on a mini B/W T.V. box.
like a step-Father to me to this day.
thank You, C.
This brought tears of laughter to my eyes 🍀
Omg that was hilarious so great to Steven Wright laugh so freakin hard he was almost wheezing lol
Conan-as shown in the "soup" discussion-is one of the masters of theme embellishment,or riffing
Phil Esposito .. man I remember as a kid, watching the Phil playing.. it had to be in boston, he was sweating like crazy and they were doing a faceoff after he had just scored a goal

Wow, the soup analogy war was awesome! Almost as good as the Norm MacDonald Viagra slam against David Spade on the old Dennis Miller show!
I so loved how he made Steven laugh like that.
Steven Wright was an instant favorite for me.
I’ve never saw Steven laugh uncontrollably. That’s a huge feather in the Irishman’s hat.
I don't think I've ever seen or heard Steven Wright laugh so much or so hard.
If you're a comedian and can make a fellow comedian laugh like that, you're pretty damn good.

Conan's accent came back while reminiscing about all the hockey players of his youth. It was brief but his subconscious took over. This amuses me!
Steven is a genius, Conan is a buffoon.^^
I miss Conan from his late night TV days. But his podcasts are pretty good, especially when he gets on a roll. Thank you, Conan, for all of your years devoted to entertaining the masses...and may you have many more years to keep on keeping on.
As a teenager I saw these performances and he was incredibly funny. The light switch-I'll never forget. Thank you.

He loves to laugh. Bill Burr had him cracking up too. Love to see it.
