The melody from the first piece was actually from Oktokaidekasimos (a.k.a. "Okto kedékasimos"), one of six short pieces from Hellenistic-period Lydia that were included in a publication from the 1800s called "Anonymi Bellermann." The author, F. Bellermann, had transcribed them from the writings of Venetus Marcianus.
Give some credit to your indigenous ancestors of Greece, Asia Minor, Anatolia, and the Armenian Highlands, and honor them well. Turks didn't arrive there until the 11th Century AD, and they weren't in those areas during the days of Augustus Caesar..
ustedes para los romanos solo fueron barbaros igual que los germanicos los españoles antiguos competencia por eso los españoles fueron los mejores amigos contra el tiempo de los romanos por mas que al principio no se hallan llevado bien
@magnvsmarcvs Yep, some of the music in Pugnate and Symphonia Panica are in EB. What I did though, was to add more of Musica Romana to the EB campaign map. If you are interested, I could upload the music mod. Personally, I spend hours on the campaign map micro-managing everything. I spend more time on the strat map than on the actual battles. So the mod actually makes a difference for me. Oh, and I am about to mod some battle music for the Romani, from the two Gladiator soundtracks.
He might have done this arrangement - if so, amazing stuff, I wish there were more of it, but arguably he won't be 2000+ years old enough to have actually made/written the piece itself, haha.
Is there any way I can listen to a stream of these together? I'm playing it for a Roman Day at my school, and I need it to last for an hour without me having to deal with it.
@tvpnbb Lol, when i've opened your comment, i was listening Chop Suey (SOAD) And strangely the first music sounds well when played within the soft riff from SOAD.
@generalpatton3 And about that battle music for the Romani from Gladiator you already have that in Sparta Total War , I would personnaly like to hear a battle drum and maybe for the celts a Brian Boru or ONeill s march (it s not historicall but it sounds good) + If I change my mind about modding the music I hope that I could adress to you . Cheers
@magnvsmarcvs You played Sparta:TW when there was EB?? I have not even heard of that mod until now, and I thought I knew most if not all of them... Well, I suppose you tried Sparta:TW before EB, because most people find they cannot play other mods after EB, or at least the non-total-conversion-ones.
This reminds me of EB which allows you to have a Triumph after a few battles. I am not very fond of having to send my General all the way back to Roma from the Front for a Parade and a few extra influence points and leaving my armies leaderless or under the command of a Governor of a Province which is better than nothing! Unless they actually end up having a negative effect on the legion!
@magnvsmarcvs As for CTDs, modding EDU and the DSM (descr_sounds_music) is fine, since just about no matter what you do, it will not cause a CTD. It is very simple, almost impossible to make a mistake (especially in the campaign music section). Any mistake will simply lead to the particular track not playing - that is all. If you want that other music modded in, then you would probably have to show me where to find the music. Torrent sites?
No, this is contemporary music, there's no preserved ancient roman music. Listen to De Organographia's ''Music of the ancient greeks'' + ''Music of ancient Sumerians, Egyptians & Greece'' and you've got the entierty of actual preserved ancient music covered. Atrium Musicae de Madrid's ''Musicue de la Grece Antique'' covers most ancient greek tunes in a more chamber rather than folk sound, it's as far as I know unrevolved which of those sounds these ancient compositions were closest to.
It's not entirely contemporary. "This album brings to live again, Roman pan flutes - reconstructed and rebuilt and played, partly on original notation. The album is produce by a well-known group of musicians specialized in ancient music, based on extensive research."
The Roman music was influenced mostly by Greek music, then from Etruscan, Osci, Marsi (ancient Italic people) tradition :) it's impossible that a underdeveloped civilization like barbarian one put influence into the Roman music.

Just to add: I'm not complaining here. I love what they've done with the tune. I just want to give recognition where recognition is due.

Bet this was #1 on the chartae. This is my jam. (Btw, it would technically be “in chartis” but whatever)
Love it!!! Am I mad--or is there an echo of Mike Oldfield in the first part?
Exelente

A walk back in time.
So this is what modern music devolved from...
my ancestors call to me never forget them they whisper
Cool. Did they do 'Stairway'? Seriously Nero played the water organ at the "games".
+Firelordofhyrule Think of this. Nero playing that tune from Baseball "Charge"! at gladiator games at the Ludi in Rome.
How does anyone know this is what it sounded like? Sheet music somewhere?
@generalpatton3

@shinigamisorrow13, Work on your ear and figure it out, it's good for you as a musician!
Can I have the music sheet for this ? I want to play it
@tvpnbb There are bagpipes in 2nd music

Espero que no te importe pero he utilizado esta musica de fondo para un trabajo que he echo en clase

What song is this called . I want to play it myself and need to learn the musical notes someone help me please
@generalpatton3
Thanks for the offer , but I like it all the way it is ( I don t dare to mess around , fear of CTD and all other s..t)
@SuperMusicHero The Greeks certainly did. Whether or not the residents of Italy had them before the Greeks arrived, I dunno - probably.
It would be nice if you had labeled the names of the tracks from this release
I could see this in Minecraft Pocket Edition Gold Edition Beta Plus
EB , roman theme, cool .
the first one doesnt sound like a panflute (IMO) it sounds more like an aulos, or a flute of some sort (also IMHO)
how they can interpret the old notations and play them? The current musical scale had not been invented. How can faithfully reproduce this song?
I am from Romania:D
@magnvsmarcvs

Wonder if you can deconstruct music like language...
It's not entirely contemporary.

is this Pinkium Floydus?
You mean Cultris Rosea, right?
So, this is where The Witcher got the inspiration
@MaBu888 or also CAVETE TIMETEQVE
FREE BIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what that name music instrument?
can you tell me what instruments are being used?
What is the name of this instrument? Help me please!!!! :S
+Mary Mendoza It may be some sort of unusual panpipe (did I write it correctly?) but I am not quite sure.
+Mary Mendoza I believe that the bagpipe sounding instrument is the Aulos, an ancient greek reed instrument.

What if it was the Romans that influenced those Celts?
Most likely both influenced each other.

Caius Licinius
Actually yes, the roman culture was influenced a lot by The Galia, Hispania, Portugalia, etc.
Portugalia? Lusitania!
Kohan Killetz
Sorry :c
This sounds medieval gothic
That's because both are modal music. Tonal music, the current one, was not invented until the S. XVII.

I really think bagpipes ain't Roman.
Far as I know the Greeks and Roman's never wrote down any music. Or none have survived to our day. Is that true?
We will never know.

For an empire that put the messiah to death, they sure had great music.
I'm not seeing the inference.
