Great video Sir. I cut some ACME threads a couple of days ago but did not set the compound to 14.5* and went straight in with the Cross Feed. Found out it works either way using the Compound or the Cross Feed. I learned a lot from watching your video. Thanks.
Randy I finally got the lathe going not as bad off as your Clausing but it seemed like forever before it was cleaned up the lead screw you made works like a charm thank you
Good afternoon Randy! I was just about to go to bed when this popped up. What the hey, I'm off tomorrow. It must be Acme Friday, last night I had our Mechanist make one to repair a machine, this morning Keith made one and now you,
Wish I knew ahead of time you were going to make this for a customer. I have a 5912 model that could use a new screw. I would have paid for one too while you were all set up. Great content Randy.
Nice project, Randy. Thanks for sharing. Good idea with the taper pin. That should be a fine modification. Nice editing, too. Everything flowed very smooth and nice.
I remembered the previous one. Great work, as usual. My Taiwanese ENCO lathe has some screw holes that were obviously hand drilled, and are a good 10 degrees off. LOL Was going to cut my own new lead screw and nut, but my lathe had way too much backlash for any accuracy, so I bought a paired set.
Mannnnnn.....that looked really good. Great job with the taper pins too. After your last job I had to go get some. I'm needing to redo my tail stock lead screw pretty soon.
Hey Randy, I wish I had known you were going to make one cause I need one for my Clausing. Wait I just checked the model #, and it's a 6315. But if anything I after watching this video I can make it, thanks, buddy! Great video.
I made one for the 6309 I had. It was the same as this one just a bit longer. I think I made a drawing of it. I will find it and send to you. Thanks Chui.
Hi Randy, Thanks for the great project video and good to see you using that tool holder oh and my thoughts of using a taper pin at the beginning of the video must have migrated all the way to your shop and into your head!! Nice job.
Good video Randy, enjoyed and you ultimately heard my shouts, secure it with a taper pin. lol. That would have been my choice as well. Thumbs up from John, Australia.
Very interesting Randy. I have an old Clausing lathe, not sure what series but circa '40's or early 50's, and I have that job to do myself before long.
Great video sir. Nice work on that tapered pin. I scrolled down through the comments and didn't see where one person noticed that you were turning that hand reamer backwards! I do believe this is a left handed spiral flute reamer. Just for shits and giggles sir no disrespect intended. Keep up the great work Randy! I really enjoy your channel and have purchased your T-shirts.
Joe. No disrespect taken. I was not turning it backwards. Taper pin spiral flute reamers are fluted this way with the cutting edge so that RH rotation is cutting.
@@RRINTHESHOP Hey Randy my bad sir! I guess I should have ask that in question form instead of making an assumption. Thanks for responding sir and keep the great content coming.
Excellent work sir. A side note: could you leave the collar if the gear longer and set the shoulder of the shaft back to coincide with the collar? Reason: I think leaving the collar longer and shaft set back would allow a much thicker web for the new taper pin area. More collar would be less chance for the pin to wallow out at a later time, like the old gear and shaft arrangement? I saw that, thought I would ask. Not a criticism, merely an observation and thought. Chuck.
Does each tpi have to have a specific insert? Or can some do multiple threads? Do you use a positive rake insert with that 4130 and less tool pressure to cut a uniform depth? Acme seems a subject that many give an overview but almost no in depth information. Thanks for the video.

Beautiful job Randy. Did you grind a regular 60 degree carbide threading insert to acme shape or was that a commercial sold inset? If so where did you find one. Thanks for the video, JB San Diego
I'm sure you know you need a new feed screw too. Wow, that things got some wobble. Bet it happened when it was moved. I've seen that wobble impart movement in the saddle in a couple other videos by others.
Great video Sir. I cut some ACME threads a couple of days ago but did not set the compound to 14.5* and went straight in with the Cross Feed. Found out it works either way using the Compound or the Cross Feed. I learned a lot from watching your video. Thanks.
Good deal Paul. Thnaks.

Great.
Randy I could smell burnt rubber at 35:42. Very nicely done. I hope to do some acme threading myself. I'm buried in paperwork for now. Take care.
The Brakes went on. Thanks Randy

Yes I saw that, not planned.
Thanks Craig.
Great idea using the tapered pin! Great job Randy!
Thank you Scout. Worked out great.
Nice job Randy . I just ordered a set of pin gauges up to 1/2 '' , like you say handy things to have . Cheers .
Yep great to have. Thanks Max.
I use mine pin gauges all the time. They go up to 1".

email sent. Thanks.

Nice editing, too. Everything flowed very smooth and nice.
Thank you Joe. I think it will hold up.
Watching this makes me want to cut some threads so satisfying . Great job randy
Thanks 👍Jason. I love cutting threads.
Hey I found a new channel that doesn't suck.... Great job on this video Mr. RR
Thank you. I try.

Randy, A little late getting to your video but enjoyed very much. Thanks for sharing. Gary
Thanks Gary. Well I will let it go this time.
Awesome. Great job! Really liked the continuous flow of the process.
Thanks so much!
Nice job Randy, lead screw turned out great and I like your taper pin solution.
Thanks Bill, Worked out great.
Mannnnnn.....that looked really good. Great job with the taper pins too. After your last job I had to go get some. I'm needing to redo my tail stock lead screw pretty soon.
Good to have some in the shop very handy items. thanks tom.
Good Job, great project. You got those camera angles perfect.
Thank you very much Nic.
I hope you reamed it so the side with the worst alignment wound up as the big end! Looks like it all turned out great.
bcbloc02: Good Afternoon Brian!
Yep I did. Thanks Brian.

Thanks for the idea! tool holder is great. Thanks Eric.
A project well thought out with good craftmanship..Thumbs up from me--very enjoyable..
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks Ian.

Good call. Thanks.
Now that was a great video, Thank You Randy.
Thank you.
great job Randy , I somehow missed this vid !! ENJOYED
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice work on the leadscrew Randy 👍
Thanks John.
Great video...discussion/demonstration/build .....machine will be like new
Thanks chuck.
Very interesting Randy. I have an old Clausing lathe, not sure what series but circa '40's or early 50's, and I have that job to do myself before long.
Not to bad to do.
Very nice job and informative
Thank you Joseph.

Wonderful! Thank you.
Awesome work, great recovery using a tapered pin
Worked out, Thanks James.
G’day Randy, great job the tapered pin looks like a good repair.
Cheers
Peter
Thanks 👍
Beautiful, just beautiful 👍🏼
Thanks Yuchol. Get well soon.

Possible, but I would need to look at the machine and see the fitup.
Nice work Randy
Thanks 👍
You did a great job Randy. Just OEM grade.
Thank you Anthony.

Yes the inserts are specific to the pitch. they are neutral rake inserts and holders. Using a follow rest is very helpful.
A well stuffed machine shop is like a miracle making machine, nothing or almost nothing that can't be made or repaired there... 🙂🙂🙂👍
Oh yes. This came out great.
HI Randy, I was wondering if you thought about rotating the entire assembly 90 degrees and drill a new hole back slightly on the gear?
Rich
Yep Thanks Linda.
Impressive as always. 👍🏆
Thanks Doug.
Hi Randy a question if you don't mind, what is the brand and number on the insert you used to cut the threads. Thanks

@@RRINTHESHOP Thank you for the info Randy!
may I ask you what material did you use? (denomination). it seems very helpful to me. I have to do the same job
I used 4140 Prehardened, ground rod. www.mscdirect.com/product/details/44861433
@@RRINTHESHOP it should be the equivalent of 42CrMo4 here in Europe. Thanks and congratulations for the work

MSC.
what about when cutting a long piece to mount an thousands indicator like a follow rest with a wide foot to monitor deflection??
Yes I think you could.
Looks good!👍
Thanks Alan.
Nice work Randy! I probably missed it in a previous video, but what's the story, or where did you get your magnetic DRO?
I made it. Check out the playlist. ua-cam.com/play/PLkVYuSKafn3Gd2Z7OPlmA7glPuYKqCkHa.html Thanks.
Lookin good there it is Randy Richard right.
Thank you Harold.

Thanks MC.
Randy Which design software you are use
Fusion 360.
Thanks Rangy
Thank you.
What's funny about this, is in 20, 30 years someone will be saying the same damn thing about your tapered "hole"
Nice work.
Probably, I won't be around.
That's some mustache, Randy
Thanks.
Nice job there-I have a 6300
I had a 6309. Good machine.
Bruce Stangeby
The content was quite good but the number of adds made it difficult to follow along.
Ok
I would have cleaned the thread before the fit check...
I did but I edit it out.
HI RANDY, HAD TO GIVE THIS ONE A MISS, THE AUDIO WAS NOTT GOOD, I NEEDED YOUR HEADPHONES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REGARDS R.
Sorry.
Great video, lousy audio. Could hardly hear anything.
Sorry about that
You scared me at 35:45
Yeah, had to wake you up. Thanks Rusty.
Rusti should talk, doesn’t his video start with a loud screech
Yep his are kind of loud.
