The "Handicapped Parking Gestapo" has crossed my path all too often. Both my wife and I are disabled but at a glance do not appear to be disabled. A favorite story is about the woman who called 911 because we had parked in a handicapped parking space at a local supermarket. The police officer who responded to her call was also our next-door neighbor and knew us well. She was charged with misuse of the 911 emergency phone number.
Sadly .. you did not learn a tiny bit from this video. In the video the Karen "judged without knowing". The key sentence in this video is "I had no idea". Would you compare some one to the "Gestapo" if you knew what the Gestapo are and what they did? Surely I understand your idea .... but comparing a real person with the Gestapo goes too far. And - yes - you might by annyoed by those Karens, but if you see it positively, they might have scared away other peoply from misusing your parking spot. So live and let live... together, not against each other.
I had a similar situation a couple of years ago when a strange woman approached me just as was exiting my car after parking in the handicapped spot. She got right into my face and started to berate me, screaming vulgarities. I decided not to engage in any type of conservation with her. Instead, as a father I made my way to the trunk and retrieved my son's wheelchair and started the well-practiced procedure to transfer his severely deformed body out of the car. My son has a severe form of spastic cerebral palsy. He is now thirty years old and still is unable to walk, dress himself, or go to the toilet with aid. Upon seeing my son. she shut her mouth and turned to walk away, without offering any kind of apology or acknowledgement of the situation. It was at that time I yelled "Hey lady! Thanks for adding to our pain!" There was no response from her. I was so mad that I was shaking. It was my son who calmed me down when he placed on me and quietly told me that "It's okay Dad." It was at that time I discovered that my son is a better man than I am.

This happened to me 2 years ago. My Dad was being discharged from the hospital after having bypass surgery. He sustained a back injury years ago so naturally I had his handicap placard in my car. I literally had a woman storm up to me and started calling me an inconsiderate brat and how dare I park in a handicap spot when clearly I didn't need it. She actually called the police, they showed up and I explained that no I wasn't handicap, but my Dad however was and he was being discharged. She wouldn't even let the security guard handle it, she called him a idiot and he didn't know what he was doing and demanded the police. Needless to say after all was said and done she was cited for filing a false police report.
They need to show a story about how many people do illegally.park in handicapped spots, when the disabled person isn't in the car. I see that way more often
there are a lot that think it just a short time and no one's using so it ok i'm glade there are people like her as i'm getting tired telling other the law as it just until the law arrives, most i just take pix's and send them to the app they have to report them
I was transfusion dependent and on oxygen 24/7 for many years. I went to my appointment to get a blood transfusion. My attending oncologist asked me why I was out of breath and sweating profusely. I told her it was more than a 1/2 mile walk from the hospital parking lot to the transfusion clinic. The doctor said there were handicapped parking spaces in front of the building and they were empty. I told her that I didn’t have a placard or handicapped plate. She asked why not. I told her I had never been informed that I was disabled. After that visit, 2 weeks later I received a state issued handicapped placard as a permanently disabled person. My doctor ordered it for me. My post below occurred after I received the placard. Many people have invisible disabilities. My family NEVER uses my disability placard when they park UNLESS I am being transported. The placard is for me, NOT MY FAMILY.
Something similar happened to me a few years back... I parked in a handicap spot, put the placard on the mirror, and hopped out of my car. Immediately, an old lady got into my face threatening to call the police, telling me seniors need these spaces, blah, blah, blah... About that time, my 82 year Father opened his door...and asked if I wanted him to "whoop her ass" with his cane...ROFL😳

We had someone try that when my husband's grandmother was still with us. Got in our face about the spot. She opened her door and told the lady to go " scrog" (her favorite insult which we all thought wasn't really a word until after she died and we looked it up.😆) Popped our truck pulled out her wheelchair.

A group of my friends jumped out of the car parked in a handicapped spot. A lady started reading us the riot act about handicapped zones. Then the driver threw his wheelchair out and got in it. She apologized profusely until Troy thanked her for trying to keep violators from parking in the handicapped space. He told her " you were just mistaken, not wrong."
People do this all the time to me and my husband because we don’t look disabled. You don’t have to have a disability that people can see to be disabled

When I was a delivery driver I either broke my foot, sprained my ankles, or got bit by dogs. Then I had my knee replaced.So several times I didn’t look handicapped but I still needed to keep healing so I used a motorized cart. I would limp into the store to get one. After driving trucks for 36 years I survived.
I cannot count the number of times I was assailed in parking lots for using disabled parking. Young, petite with a small child and an invisible illness. Screamed at. Ranted at. None of them stopped yelling long enuf to hear a word I said. My life was difficult enough without that. Shame on them.
This would never happen in Ireland where people do not challenge pther people in car parks. The most that might happen would be a qualified security or police authority would be contacted and left to confront the perceived violator. I doubt such interventions would be common in the USA with their 2nd amendment rights.
Uhhh, given Ireland's history about how many of its citizens "react" to certain situations, which in turn causes acts of retribution, I find your contention a little hard to believe. I was in same situation with my handicapped son when I was young. I was quite annoyed to say the least. I came to learn as I got older the person who tried to call me out was doing the right thing in their head. And they were if We were faking. They just didn't wait long enough for me to unload my son. Lesson learned by us both.
This happened to me. I am handicapped my sister parked in a handicapped spot and got out of the car. With my handicap it takes me longer to exit the car so before I could a man came up yelling at her. She tried to explain but he was not listening. When I finally got out of the car I asked him if he wanted to stay and watch me walk into the business. He just walked away with no apology
@@QUEEN-yn5xq I disagree mainly because the one Karen calling 911 thinks she’s can tell if someone’s not disabled just by looking. There’s a lot of people with invisible disabilities and the placard should be enough to quiet Karen’s not an explanation. I once started calling campus security when I saw a car with no placard no stickers on license plate in placard parking. In my minority relations class me and another female student where talking placards and how frequently we get asked by “peace officers” for proof we are the placard users (paper given by dmv). We’re both white. We both have invisible disabilities and she has lots of tattoos. I only once was asked for proof. The person with tattoos gets asked 7 times a year. I always wondered since how often a black person blatantly visibly disabled and in suit and tie would be carded. My guess would be just as high or higher

Years ago I stopped at a Burger King and parked my full sized van in one of the two handicapped spots. My van was equipped with a wheelchair lift so we can get my son in and out. The lift by itself cost over $4000 when we had the van customized for us. Anyway, after we were done eating at BK, I went back to the van to let the lift down. It uses about 5 feet, plus we needed about 3 more feet beyond that to have room to maneuver the motorized wheelchair onto the lift. Well, before I could get the lift started, some guy cruises into the 2nd handicap spot (with no sticker or plate) and totally blocks the access to the lift. I'm standing right there and I point out that this is a handicap spot and that he is blocking us. Immediately, he tells me 'This will only take a minute' and runs into BK to order his food. Now, I'm normally a laid back guy and I have had plenty of inconsiderate jerks make it difficult for me to cart my son around, and I just generally choose not to take it personally. But I gotta tell you, I got so angry when being dismissed in this way as if we did not matter at all, that I became enraged to the point where I actually saw red. I don't know how I managed it, but I came very close to backing up my giant stretch full size van in order to ram his car a couple times. Sanity finally took over, and I didn't do anything foolish. A part of me REALLY regrets that I didn't do anything outlandish that could have gotten me into trouble. My son is actually my step-son, but I've been with his mom and he since he was three years old, and I take my responsibilities very seriously. He was maybe 5 years old at the time, and he is now 33 years old, so we've been in this together for a very long time. Times sure have changed. My wife has become disabled as well, and so have I. Am currently 68 and recuperating from a heart attack and have difficulty walking myself (it's pretty painful!) but at the time of this incident I was athletic and in top form.
I have the same problem with my walker... it won't fit in the trunk, so I have to put it in the back seat. If someone parks too close, I can't get my walker in the car, and have to wait for the other driver to return & move their car. Or I can back out of my parking spot to get my walker in the back seat... while other angry drivers honk & cuss at me for blocking them. 😖
This Karen should have checked properly before parking, she was the inconsiderate one. Yet she wants to call the police on the disabled lady?? She needs to apologize immediately!!!
I've been the parking police one time. And it was warranted. My husband was in the store, we have plates on our van because I'm in a wheelchair part time, depending on how the muscles feel day to day (sometimes minute to minute). Hubby was about two weeks out of the hospital with a brand new mechanical heart valve. He was picking up my medicine and walking from the long way off was taxing on him at best. Well, as I sit there reading my book, I saw a sports car speed into the handicap spot across from me. Four teens got out, high fiving and cheering that "we got the close spot!" and ran into the store. Well, having had my plates for 10 years at that point, I'd seen my share of really stupid going on and this time I called the local cops. We're a smaller town and they're pretty fast. I was talking with the officer when the boys came running back out. They didn't think anything of it, still carrying on as they piled into the car. One of them pulled a couple beers out of his shirt as he got in. The officer was intrigued at that one and pulled the driver out first. His backup arrived and got the others out. Seems not only were they too young to have the beer, the driver was using his grandmother's plaque that she had reported stolen. The driver got a bunch of tickets the plaque was seized, the beer runner got a nice set of bracelets and a trip to the scenic city jail. And, the driver had to come over and apologize to me for parking in a spot that was reserved for those who need them legitimately. I don't do that often, but that was so damned obvious that I had to make the report. If I had ANY doubt, I would have just sat there and read my book.
I know firsthand what it is like to be ill and have other people judge you, not knowing what you have been through or anything else about you. Just because you look okay on the outside, does not mean you are okay on the inside, and people can be extremely cruel and stupid about this.
So true. I look healthy and young for 39 but my looks are very deceiving. I deal with a lot of pain from military injuries. Had people say nasty things to me, give the evil eye, one lady tried to get my car towed, another person said it would be towed if it didn't match my registration at a store. That's not how handicap plaques work anyways. If I wasn't worried a crazy would key my car I'd probably lie and tell them yes I stole my grandma's handicap to really get their goat.
Same thing happened to me only on city buses. Because I was tall and had a rosy complexion, I was often given the side eye for taking a seat. At least twice really old people stood up for me because they noticed that I needed a little help.
Same thing happened to me. In Sydney trying to get on a bus with my walking stick, I handed the bus driver my disability pensioner concession card which he looked at, looked me up and down & said " you're not handicapped, you're too young and healthy to have a cane 26yrs old at the time. (I had not long begun to walk and talk again after almost 3 years of rehab for spinal injuries and skull fractures which I was left for dead after sustaining on my way to work - by the people who ran me off the road then took off. There's WAY WAY WAY MORE but my brain is too tired already. Best of luck everyone😊
This happened to me a while ago. I just got out of the hospital from a brain surgery. They went through my nose so there are no scars. I didn't tell the lady because it's none of her business. I told to to call the cops. She didn't. Disabilities aren't always visible. (Also it wasn't me driving, but my car)
I have experienced this as well. I have had 8 back surgeries in my life time; living with moments of pain; anxiety; sciatica pain and stage 3 kidney disease that sometimes cripples me. There are people who make horrible comments when I get out of my car because they don’t “see” what they think are “handicaps” to them! It’s hurtful and disrespectful and mean!
So true. Last time I was accosted in this manner, I showed the person my scar in the middle on my chest and told her to back off! She started stuttering and quickly bolted.hah!
Some disabilys cant be seen and whit some its one day you fell like you can run half å marathon and the next you can barley get up there are alot that are like that
I might also add that I'm physically challenged also, I have degenerative osteoarthritis, balance and motor skill issues from having Cerebral Palsy, I'm also an amputee, what really gets my blood boiling is seeing people that have no handicap placard or plate park in a handicap parking space.
I am a 100% disabled veteran. I look pretty normal unless you are using an x-ray or MRI. Unless I am tired I can usually hide my limp. Yes I use handicap parking and yes sometimes I get looks. You don't have a clue how I feel, how much pain I swallow every day.
This is why you should never assume anything about situations like this. The handicap may not be for the driver, but for the passenger with that particular special need.
I also was in the same situation. My mother had a disability and recently had a hip displacement operation and walks with difficulty without a cane. So we obtained a disability handicap sign so I would be able to park in a handicap parking spot. A lot of people thought I was faking a disability but I drove my mother to where she needed to go like the doctor, dentist or the bank. I ran a lot of errands for my mother including grocery shopping, buying food, laundry, banking, etc. It was a tough time for her. She passed away not too long ago. I'm still grieving. R.I.P. mom.
This "karen" was actually trying to make sure those spaces are not being misused by people who don't need them. In a way you could say she is protecting those spaces for people like David and his mother to be able to use.
What’s nice about how this script is written is that it wraps up with a positive ending that we all can learn from and perhaps apply in some fashion in our own lives. I know I will see things differently. ❤

This reminds me of times where my dad would be at JC Penny's salon to pick my mom up that was in a wheelchair, OH the looks he would get after he would park in the handicap parking, how he was able to keep his cool is beyond me.
A friend of mine has a handicap that is not always visible and she’s been the brunt of ignorant people too. It’s so sad that people look at the outside and make judgments they have no business doing.
This happened to me a few years ago when my husband was fighting for his life w/bone marrow cancer. We were in his vehicle and I had parked in a handicap space for him to go in & get his prescription filled. Some lady saw me get out of the car waiting for him to return and was ready to cuss me out as she did not see my husband w/his cane walking into the store and just assumed I was parking there out of convenience. And his handicap sticker was clearly displayed. When she saw him, she didn't say another word to me, just went on about her business. I, on the other hand, just laughed at her because she felt like a total idiot!!
I’ve had this happen to me. I had severe RA and a spinal injury, both since I was 33. Back in my younger days (I’m 57 now), I used to get accosted by older people all the time when I parked in a handicap spot. I had the police called on me 3 times and once, because the man was yelling obscenities at me and getting in my face while the police were there, they went ahead and pressed harassment charges against him.
My Mom was handicapped due to MS. You wouldn't believe the Hell we received just going to the supermarket because I drove the car and wasn't the one handicapped! If she wasn't handicapped she would not have needed to be parking in a handicapped space or the license plate. People are so manipulative!
Here's a life lesson...mind your own damn business! Confront the wrong person at the wrong time, you may actually need the cops but won't be able to call due to some broken fingers.
Here’s the problem: the woman portrayed in the video is not a Karen. A Karen is irrational and usually assumes a minority is committing a crime because they are a minority. The whole point of them confronting people is because they have a superiority complex. The last thing a person with a superiority complex will do is accept defeat from a person they consider inferior. In reality, a Karen will continue to call the cops, tell them the mom has a gun or that the mom threatened her. Boy in a wheelchair or no boy in a wheelchair, Karen’s ego will not allow her to let it go much less apologize. This video completely whitewashes the issue with Karens. But hopefully it encourages people to be sure there’s not a handicap person with the person using the disability placard before reporting it.
By golly, you're right. Dammit, if someone wants to save some time by taking a space from a handicapped person - you should let them! Don't get involved. If you see someone being bullied, ignore it. If there is a rape or armed robbery...turn away and don't get involved. Or you could just check the facts before acting.
The lady in pink should mind her business. The mother was right and did not have to explain anything to the Karen. As a mother of a disable child, it not me to explain why I have a parking decal that was issued by the DMV after already having my daughter’s medical information certified. People just need to mind their own business and the world would be a better place.

This woman jumped to the wrong conclusion. There are a lot of people that are handycaped without a parking sticker or tag . People would be surprised to know there are so many . You can’t judge book by it’s cover . We can’t judge everyone by all the bad apples , people also have artificial things inside and outside of their bodies. Just because they have replacement parts doesn’t mean their not having problems . These people don’t want stares at them , so you don’t know . My prayers go out to this mom and son .
Yes you're right. I know people that won't get a placard because they don't want anyone to know they're disabled.... My Dad is a good example. He thinks they are a joke. He says they didn't have those kind of things when he was a kid....back then disabled people were thought of as "less able". And he doesn't want anyone to think he's one of those people. Plus, He doesn't want to be shown any favoritism. He works twice as hard trying to seem normal and hides his disabilities... He wouldn't use a Handicapped parking spot even if he had a placard. He's always parked as far from the front door as possible. But I think it's just because he doesn't want anyone to scratch his car....lol.
The one ssue with the video imo is that its kinda bait and switching, reinforcing the idea that only people who are unable to walk have a parking permit. There's plenty of non apparent disabilities that parking permits are given for, you dont have to have non working legs to have a permit
He's an actor, this is a set up video, easily recognized by all the different camera angles. But it does highlight that some people query drivers who park in handicap spots, which is a good thing. But people must remember not all disabilities are visible. As shown in the video, another is breathing problems and not being able to walk far or need an aid yet to be taken from the car.
I have a handicapped parking tag. If you look at me, you will not see my handicap. I also have purple heart plates. I have never been challenged but they maybe because of my plates. I am also a 100% disabled Vietnam veteran.

I'm vision impaired and was abused for using a disabled parking spot with the driver who is an amputee. Why should either of us have to explain or justify to a total stranger why we need to use the space. We both look normal ordinary and our medical history is nobody's buisness but our own.
I'm trying to remember how many times I've seen something looking strange, and didn't call the Police. I believe in minding my business. I can count the time ⏲️ on one hand 🙋♀️☝️I've call the police. Why do all the Karen's look the same. They are a miserable bunch, such hatred, dislike for Mankind.
This story hits home. I have a 36 year old severely handicapped son thats non- verbal, hearing impaired ( can't hear without aids) and has CP. My Brandon and our family has had our share as well. God Bless our Disabled people and their families.
It amazes me that these "Karens" never want to listen to the police, but they want to 'be' the police and enforce laws by going after other citizens when it's not their job to do that.
I don't look handicap but I qualified as a handicap person with a "PERMIT HANDICAP STICKER." I have a lot of Medical Problems that prevents me from walking any distance more then 10 feet at a time without stopping & resting. I use a walker. People's handicap is NOT ALWAYS VISIBLE, so Karens & Kens remember this " THERE'S ONLY 24 HOURS IN A DAY. 12 HOURS TO TEND TO YOUR BUSINESS & 12 HOURS TO STAY OUT OF OTHER PEOPLE'S BUSINESS."
Even if you know them its not your place to judge others. Remember if you judge others then you yourself will be judged as well. If its not effecting your personal life then butt out before it does. Most issues are caused by people sticking their noses where they dont belong. Everyone more worried about others lives and not their own. Sure hate being judged as judging others.

Too many cops in personal matters caused by big mouth dip shits. Cops love the drama and a excuse to harrass innocent people. Its easier to talk kind or walk away then stick your nose into others business. Same type of BS happened to my mom when she was battling pancreatic cancer. Some old ass man gave her grief as she walked into the grocery store ( "you don't look handicapped") but she was too much of a lady to talk back. When she came back to the car he told me what he said and I only wish I'd walked in with her to give that ass what he deserved. Likely karma took care of him though.
I was taking my sister who has CP out for lunch and a vet came over to me and said he was going to call the police to fine me for obviously not being handicapped. I slowly went to my sister's side of the car, got her walker and lifted her out of the car. He was embarrassed, but felt the need to tell me that if my sister wasn't in the car, I couldn't park there. The placard was actually mine. I was recovering from double knee replacement surgery and I had 5 days left on my temp placard.
I wouldn't have either. I am not a nasty person, but I would have been in this situation, because she assumed the worse. Instead of just asking. Better still, she just needed to mind her business.
This shows how kids look at life and some kids act well beyond their years and sometimes this bright intelligent youngsters and people like this kid with disabilities should well and truly never ever judge a book by it’s cover.
I have MS and some other chronic illnesses that are invisible to most people. I thought that this was going to be about someone like me. I have been chewed out by seemingly healthy people for using my disabled plates and it sucks when you have to count the steps to all aisles in grocery store and the longer you stand getting chewed out the less steps you can take in the store. Yes, I Could use the motorized carts in the store but I still have to drive home and carry my groceries in and put them away. I do appreciate people trying to fight for my spaces until they don't recognize that I need one and turn on me. I try to keep a good attitude. We all need each other to stay afloat. Love is the way!
That's one of my biggest pet peeves . When ppl take the handicap parking, and they don't need it. I see this all the time. Tbh, I don't say nothing, as due to you never know who you encountering. I just believe they will get caught eventually.
But how do you know they don’t need it? Are you judging them by the way they look, just like the lady in the video did? I have a dear friend that has terminal cancer. To look at her, she appears completely fine. But she has a cancer that is inoperable and she chose to not have chemo or radiation because she wants to spend her time left without going through the sickness of chemo. She drives a car with a handicap sticker and parks in a handicapped spot. She is living on borrowed time. Shame on people like you that just look at someone and judge whether or not they are handicapped. And you should never say anything because like the lady in the video, you might been extremely embarrassed when proven wrong. Did you not learn anything from the video? Obviously not. Your holier than thou attitude tells me all I need to know about you.

@@daisymazie9642 no of course not. I don't judge them according to what they look like. As I'm one that looks perfectly fine, but have health issues. I could easily get a handicap sign but choose not to. At least not yet, as I try my hardest to still do what any healthy person does. I could easily qualify for a handicap sign and get disability, but I choose not to. I still keep as active as I can, work and volunteer for our community. As I know one day I will really need it. In the mean time, I rather someone else that really needs the handicap space be for someone else that needs it. Don't judge me if you don't know me at all. I do see ppl using the handicap spots, of ppl that are fine. I live in a small community where almost everybody knows everybody or at least heard of them. Plus I have worked in an place where, I was right at the door. Customers be parking right at handicap spot, they would literally say, they were just to tire or lazy to park somewhere else and walk. If I saw someone needing the spot they would move.
I drive a spiffy red corvette when I park in handicap I get the evil eye till I get my husband & his walker out of the car . just enjoy your life you never know when you might need a handicap permit yourself !!!
My niece has MS. Up until very recently, she could walk for short distances unassisted but was still a fall risk. She had her handicapped permit on her mirror. She didn't appear handicapped right off. Don't judge by outward appearances. Many handicapped people don't look obviously handicapped.

I had a similar situation a couple of years ago when a strange woman approached me just as was exiting my car after parking in the handicapped spot. She got right into my face and started to berate me, screaming vulgarities. I decided not to engage in any type of conservation with her. Instead, as a father I made my way to the trunk and retrieved my son's wheelchair and started the well-practiced procedure to transfer his severely deformed body out of the car. My son has a severe form of spastic cerebral palsy. He is now thirty years old and still is unable to walk, dress himself, or go to the toilet with aid. Upon seeing my son. she shut her mouth and turned to walk away, without offering any kind of apology or acknowledgement of the situation. It was at that time I yelled "Hey lady! Thanks for adding to our pain!" There was no response from her. I was so mad that I was shaking. It was my son who calmed me down when he placed on me and quietly told me that "It's okay Dad." It was at that time I discovered that my son is a better man than I am.

This happened to me 2 years ago. My Dad was being discharged from the hospital after having bypass surgery. He sustained a back injury years ago so naturally I had his handicap placard in my car. I literally had a woman storm up to me and started calling me an inconsiderate brat and how dare I park in a handicap spot when clearly I didn't need it. She actually called the police, they showed up and I explained that no I wasn't handicap, but my Dad however was and he was being discharged. She wouldn't even let the security guard handle it, she called him a idiot and he didn't know what he was doing and demanded the police. Needless to say after all was said and done she was cited for filing a false police report.

I was transfusion dependent and on oxygen 24/7 for many years. I went to my appointment to get a blood transfusion. My attending oncologist asked me why I was out of breath and sweating profusely. I told her it was more than a 1/2 mile walk from the hospital parking lot to the transfusion clinic. The doctor said there were handicapped parking spaces in front of the building and they were empty. I told her that I didn’t have a placard or handicapped plate. She asked why not. I told her I had never been informed that I was disabled. After that visit, 2 weeks later I received a state issued handicapped placard as a permanently disabled person. My doctor ordered it for me. My post below occurred after I received the placard. Many people have invisible disabilities. My family NEVER uses my disability placard when they park UNLESS I am being transported. The placard is for me, NOT MY FAMILY.
Something similar happened to me a few years back... I parked in a handicap spot, put the placard on the mirror, and hopped out of my car. Immediately, an old lady got into my face threatening to call the police, telling me seniors need these spaces, blah, blah, blah... About that time, my 82 year Father opened his door...and asked if I wanted him to "whoop her ass" with his cane...ROFL😳

We had someone try that when my husband's grandmother was still with us. Got in our face about the spot. She opened her door and told the lady to go " scrog" (her favorite insult which we all thought wasn't really a word until after she died and we looked it up.😆) Popped our truck pulled out her wheelchair.

A group of my friends jumped out of the car parked in a handicapped spot. A lady started reading us the riot act about handicapped zones. Then the driver threw his wheelchair out and got in it. She apologized profusely until Troy thanked her for trying to keep violators from parking in the handicapped space. He told her " you were just mistaken, not wrong."

When I was a delivery driver I either broke my foot, sprained my ankles, or got bit by dogs. Then I had my knee replaced.So several times I didn’t look handicapped but I still needed to keep healing so I used a motorized cart. I would limp into the store to get one. After driving trucks for 36 years I survived.
I cannot count the number of times I was assailed in parking lots for using disabled parking. Young, petite with a small child and an invisible illness. Screamed at. Ranted at. None of them stopped yelling long enuf to hear a word I said. My life was difficult enough without that. Shame on them.
This would never happen in Ireland where people do not challenge pther people in car parks. The most that might happen would be a qualified security or police authority would be contacted and left to confront the perceived violator. I doubt such interventions would be common in the USA with their 2nd amendment rights.
Uhhh, given Ireland's history about how many of its citizens "react" to certain situations, which in turn causes acts of retribution, I find your contention a little hard to believe. I was in same situation with my handicapped son when I was young.
I was quite annoyed to say the least.
I came to learn as I got older the person who tried to call me out was doing the right thing in their head.
And they were if We were faking.
They just didn't wait long enough for me to unload my son.

This happened to me. I am handicapped my sister parked in a handicapped spot and got out of the car. With my handicap it takes me longer to exit the car so before I could a man came up yelling at her. She tried to explain but he was not listening. When I finally got out of the car I asked him if he wanted to stay and watch me walk into the business. He just walked away with no apology

There’s a lot of people with invisible disabilities and the placard should be enough to quiet Karen’s not an explanation. I once started calling campus security when I saw a car with no placard no stickers on license plate in placard parking. In my minority relations class me and another female student where talking placards and how frequently we get asked by “peace officers” for proof we are the placard users (paper given by dmv). We’re both white. We both have invisible disabilities and she has lots of tattoos. I only once was asked for proof. The person with tattoos gets asked 7 times a year. I always wondered since how often a black person blatantly visibly disabled and in suit and tie would be carded. My guess would be just as high or higher

Years ago I stopped at a Burger King and parked my full sized van in one of the two handicapped spots. My van was equipped with a wheelchair lift so we can get my son in and out. The lift by itself cost over $4000 when we had the van customized for us.
Anyway, after we were done eating at BK, I went back to the van to let the lift down. It uses about 5 feet, plus we needed about 3 more feet beyond that to have room to maneuver the motorized wheelchair onto the lift.
Well, before I could get the lift started, some guy cruises into the 2nd handicap spot (with no sticker or plate) and totally blocks the access to the lift. I'm standing right there and I point out that this is a handicap spot and that he is blocking us. Immediately, he tells me 'This will only take a minute' and runs into BK to order his food.
Now, I'm normally a laid back guy and I have had plenty of inconsiderate jerks make it difficult for me to cart my son around, and I just generally choose not to take it personally. But I gotta tell you, I got so angry when being dismissed in this way as if we did not matter at all, that I became enraged to the point where I actually saw red. I don't know how I managed it, but I came very close to backing up my giant stretch full size van in order to ram his car a couple times.
Sanity finally took over, and I didn't do anything foolish. A part of me REALLY regrets that I didn't do anything outlandish that could have gotten me into trouble. My son is actually my step-son, but I've been with his mom and he since he was three years old, and I take my responsibilities very seriously. He was maybe 5 years old at the time, and he is now 33 years old, so we've been in this together for a very long time. Times sure have changed. My wife has become disabled as well, and so have I. Am currently 68 and recuperating from a heart attack and have difficulty walking myself (it's pretty painful!) but at the time of this incident I was athletic and in top form.
I have the same problem with my walker... it won't fit in the trunk, so I have to put it in the back seat. If someone parks too close, I can't get my walker in the car, and have to wait for the other driver to return & move their car. Or I can back out of my parking spot to get my walker in the back seat... while other angry drivers honk & cuss at me for blocking them. 😖

I've been the parking police one time. And it was warranted. My husband was in the store, we have plates on our van because I'm in a wheelchair part time, depending on how the muscles feel day to day (sometimes minute to minute). Hubby was about two weeks out of the hospital with a brand new mechanical heart valve. He was picking up my medicine and walking from the long way off was taxing on him at best. Well, as I sit there reading my book, I saw a sports car speed into the handicap spot across from me. Four teens got out, high fiving and cheering that "we got the close spot!" and ran into the store. Well, having had my plates for 10 years at that point, I'd seen my share of really stupid going on and this time I called the local cops. We're a smaller town and they're pretty fast. I was talking with the officer when the boys came running back out. They didn't think anything of it, still carrying on as they piled into the car. One of them pulled a couple beers out of his shirt as he got in. The officer was intrigued at that one and pulled the driver out first. His backup arrived and got the others out. Seems not only were they too young to have the beer, the driver was using his grandmother's plaque that she had reported stolen. The driver got a bunch of tickets the plaque was seized, the beer runner got a nice set of bracelets and a trip to the scenic city jail. And, the driver had to come over and apologize to me for parking in a spot that was reserved for those who need them legitimately.
I don't do that often, but that was so damned obvious that I had to make the report. If I had ANY doubt, I would have just sat there and read my book.

This is so sad on so many levels. But it happens every day.
A remarkable young man, educating two grown adults in one sitting after encountering a situation without knowing what's going on.
I know firsthand what it is like to be ill and have other people judge you, not knowing what you have been through or anything else about you. Just because you look okay on the outside, does not mean you are okay on the inside, and people can be extremely cruel and stupid about this.

So true. I look healthy and young for 39 but my looks are very deceiving. I deal with a lot of pain from military injuries. Had people say nasty things to me, give the evil eye, one lady tried to get my car towed, another person said it would be towed if it didn't match my registration at a store. That's not how handicap plaques work anyways. If I wasn't worried a crazy would key my car I'd probably lie and tell them yes I stole my grandma's handicap to really get their goat.
Same thing happened to me only on city buses. Because I was tall and had a rosy complexion, I was often given the side eye for taking a seat. At least twice really old people stood up for me because they noticed that I needed a little help.

Same thing happened to me. In Sydney trying to get on a bus with my walking stick, I handed the bus driver my disability pensioner concession card which he looked at, looked me up and down & said " you're not handicapped, you're too young and healthy to have a cane 26yrs old at the time. (I had not long begun to walk and talk again after almost 3 years of rehab for spinal injuries and skull fractures which I was left for dead after sustaining on my way to work - by the people who ran me off the road then took off. This happened to me a while ago. I just got out of the hospital from a brain surgery. They went through my nose so there are no scars. I didn't tell the lady because it's none of her business. I told to to call the cops. She didn't. Disabilities aren't always visible.
(Also it wasn't me driving, but my car)
I have experienced this as well. I have had 8 back surgeries in my life time; living with moments of pain; anxiety; sciatica pain and stage 3 kidney disease that sometimes cripples me. There are people who make horrible comments when I get out of my car because they don’t “see” what they think are “handicaps” to them! It’s hurtful and disrespectful and mean!

I might also add that I'm physically challenged also, I have degenerative osteoarthritis, balance and motor skill issues from having Cerebral Palsy, I'm also an amputee, what really gets my blood boiling is seeing people that have no handicap placard or plate park in a handicap parking space.
I am a 100% disabled veteran. I look pretty normal unless you are using an x-ray or MRI. Unless I am tired I can usually hide my limp. Yes I use handicap parking and yes sometimes I get looks. You don't have a clue how I feel, how much pain I swallow every day.

This is why you should never assume anything about situations like this. The handicap may not be for the driver, but for the passenger with that particular special need.
I also was in the same situation. My mother had a disability and recently had a hip displacement operation and walks with difficulty without a cane. So we obtained a disability handicap sign so I would be able to park in a handicap parking spot. A lot of people thought I was faking a disability but I drove my mother to where she needed to go like the doctor, dentist or the bank. I ran a lot of errands for my mother including grocery shopping, buying food, laundry, banking, etc. It was a tough time for her. She passed away not too long ago. I'm still grieving. R.I.P. mom.

This "karen" was actually trying to make sure those spaces are not being misused by people who don't need them. In a way you could say she is protecting those spaces for people like David and his mother to be able to use.

A friend of mine has a handicap that is not always visible and she’s been the brunt of ignorant people too. It’s so sad that people look at the outside and make judgments they have no business doing.
This happened to me a few years ago when my husband was fighting for his life w/bone marrow cancer. We were in his vehicle and I had parked in a handicap space for him to go in & get his prescription filled. Some lady saw me get out of the car waiting for him to return and was ready to cuss me out as she did not see my husband w/his cane walking into the store and just assumed I was parking there out of convenience. And his handicap sticker was clearly displayed. When she saw him, she didn't say another word to me, just went on about her business. I, on the other hand, just laughed at her because she felt like a total idiot!!

I’ve had this happen to me. I had severe RA and a spinal injury, both since I was 33. Back in my younger days (I’m 57 now), I used to get accosted by older people all the time when I parked in a handicap spot. I had the police called on me 3 times and once, because the man was yelling obscenities at me and getting in my face while the police were there, they went ahead and pressed harassment charges against him.
My Mom was handicapped due to MS. You wouldn't believe the Hell we received just going to the supermarket because I drove the car and wasn't the one handicapped! If she wasn't handicapped she would not have needed to be parking in a handicapped space or the license plate. People are so manipulative!
But why would anyone want to assume that they are the only law abiding citizens around 🤔

Here’s the problem: the woman portrayed in the video is not a Karen. A Karen is irrational and usually assumes a minority is committing a crime because they are a minority. The whole point of them confronting people is because they have a superiority complex. The last thing a person with a superiority complex will do is accept defeat from a person they consider inferior.
In reality, a Karen will continue to call the cops, tell them the mom has a gun or that the mom threatened her. Boy in a wheelchair or no boy in a wheelchair, Karen’s ego will not allow her to let it go much less apologize.
This video completely whitewashes the issue with Karens. But hopefully it encourages people to be sure there’s not a handicap person with the person using the disability placard before reporting it.

As a mother of a disable child, it not me to explain why I have a parking decal that was issued by the DMV after already having my daughter’s medical information certified. This woman jumped to the wrong conclusion. There are a lot of people that are handycaped without a parking sticker or tag . People would be surprised to know there are so many . You can’t judge book by it’s cover . We can’t judge everyone by all the bad apples , people also have artificial things inside and outside of their bodies. Just because they have replacement parts doesn’t mean their not having problems . These people don’t want stares at them , so you don’t know . My prayers go out to this mom and son .

He's an actor, this is a set up video, easily recognized by all the different camera angles. But it does highlight that some people query drivers who park in handicap spots, which is a good thing. But people must remember not all disabilities are visible. As shown in the video, another is breathing problems and not being able to walk far or need an aid yet to be taken from the car.

I have a handicapped parking tag. If you look at me, you will not see my handicap. I also have purple heart plates. I have never been challenged but they maybe because of my plates. I am also a 100% disabled Vietnam veteran.

This story hits home. I have a 36 year old severely handicapped son thats non- verbal, hearing impaired ( can't hear without aids) and has CP. My Brandon and our family has had our share as well. God Bless our Disabled people and their families.
It amazes me that these "Karens" never want to listen to the police, but they want to 'be' the police and enforce laws by going after other citizens when it's not their job to do that.

I don't look handicap but I qualified as a handicap person with a "PERMIT HANDICAP STICKER." I have a lot of Medical Problems that prevents me from walking any distance more then 10 feet at a time without stopping & resting. I use a walker. People's handicap is NOT ALWAYS VISIBLE, so Karens & Kens remember this " THERE'S ONLY 24 HOURS IN A DAY. 12 HOURS TO TEND TO YOUR BUSINESS & 12 HOURS TO STAY OUT OF OTHER PEOPLE'S BUSINESS."

Even if you know them its not your place to judge others. Remember if you judge others then you yourself will be judged as well. If its not effecting your personal life then butt out before it does. Most issues are caused by people sticking their noses where they dont belong. Everyone more worried about others lives and not their own. Sure hate being judged as judging others.

Too many cops in personal matters caused by big mouth dip shits. Cops love the drama and a excuse to harrass innocent people. Cops are for crimes that involve you or your property not bull shit drama. That drama causes revenge violence or damage. Its easier to talk kind or walk away then stick your nose into others business. Remember one day you will be judged as well and cops be involved in personal matters that harmed nobody until you stuck your nose where it does not belong.

Same type of BS happened to my mom when she was battling pancreatic cancer. Some old ass man gave her grief as she walked into the grocery store ( "you don't look handicapped") but she was too much of a lady to talk back. When she came back to the car he told me what he said and I only wish I'd walked in with her to give that ass what he deserved. Likely karma took care of him though.
I was taking my sister who has CP out for lunch and a vet came over to me and said he was going to call the police to fine me for obviously not being handicapped. I slowly went to my sister's side of the car, got her walker and lifted her out of the car. He was embarrassed, but felt the need to tell me that if my sister wasn't in the car, I couldn't park there. The placard was actually mine. I was recovering from double knee replacement surgery and I had 5 days left on my temp placard.
I would have not gotten off the phone for some crazy nosy ass person.
I wouldn't have either. I am not a nasty person, but I would have been in this situation, because she assumed the worse. Instead of just asking. Better still, she just needed to mind her business.
Neither would I!! I might have said something like, "If I'm parked in a handicap space, I must have a reason for doing it!!"

This shows how kids look at life and some kids act well beyond their years and sometimes this bright intelligent youngsters and people like this kid with disabilities should well and truly never ever judge a book by it’s cover.

I have MS and some other chronic illnesses that are invisible to most people. I thought that this was going to be about someone like me. I have been chewed out by seemingly healthy people for using my disabled plates and it sucks when you have to count the steps to all aisles in grocery store and the longer you stand getting chewed out the less steps you can take in the store. Yes, I Could use the motorized carts in the store but I still have to drive home and carry my groceries in and put them away. I do appreciate people trying to fight for my spaces until they don't recognize that I need one and turn on me. I try to keep a good attitude. We all need each other to stay afloat. Love is the way!

I see this all the time. Tbh, I don't say nothing, as due to you never know who you encountering. I just believe they will get caught eventually.

But how do you know they don’t need it? Are you judging them by the way they look, just like the lady in the video did? I have a dear friend that has terminal cancer. To look at her, she appears completely fine. But she has a cancer that is inoperable and she chose to not have chemo or radiation because she wants to spend her time left without going through the sickness of chemo. She drives a car with a handicap sticker and parks in a handicapped spot. She is living on borrowed time. Shame on people like you that just look at someone and judge whether or not they are handicapped. And you should never say anything because like the lady in the video, you might been extremely embarrassed when proven wrong. Did you not learn anything from the video? Obviously not. Your holier than thou attitude tells me all I need to know about you.

As I'm one that looks perfectly fine, but have health issues. I could easily get a handicap sign but choose not to. At least not yet, as I try my hardest to still do what any healthy person does.
I could easily qualify for a handicap sign and get disability, but I choose not to. I still keep as active as I can, work and volunteer for our community. As I know one day I will really need it. In the mean time, I rather someone else that really needs the handicap space be for someone else that needs it.

I do see ppl using the handicap spots, of ppl that are fine. I live in a small community where almost everybody knows everybody or at least heard of them. Plus I have worked in an place where, I was right at the door. Customers be parking right at handicap spot, they would literally say, they were just to tire or lazy to park somewhere else and walk. If I saw someone needing the spot they would move.
I drive a spiffy red corvette when I park in handicap I get the evil eye till I get my husband & his walker out of the car . just enjoy your life you never know when you might need a handicap permit yourself !!!

My niece has MS. Up until very recently, she could walk for short distances unassisted but was still a fall risk. She had her handicapped permit on her mirror. She didn't appear handicapped right off. Don't judge by outward appearances. Many handicapped people don't look obviously handicapped.
Some disabilities are hidden, some come and go like arthritis.
Arthritis never comes and goes, it’s there for life.

@@cristelahernandez7488 As someone who worked in a hospital. Some patients who had arthritis their pain levels would vary throughout the day, so their arthritis would come and go.
