Unknown to her, I still feel tearful and sad whenever I remember her prancing around with excruciating pain and blood squirting all over the place. She got loose from being held down. I will never forget that day. It was a terrible day for me. The terror on her face as she jumped all over the place was indescribable and the pain must have been unbearable. I had no power to save her. I was about fourteen years old. I am still sad about it. Anytime I set my eyes on her, I relive that experience and I feel very sorry for her. She was about 10 years old when this happened. She is a grandmother today. In a country like Gambia, if it is allowed by culture and cannot be eradicated, I would suggest that they do it very early when the baby's pain threshold is still low, not when they have grown into young girls.
