oh sorry my comments are about an stupid advertisement that google sends me. The video on thermocouple is very good. Thank you for this video on thermocouple, it is helpful
I am wondering if you could show a picture of the location of the tab on the different gas valve that would be used to test the TC when its in service? Robert Shaw - Dexen - SIT. Thank you
@@acservicetechchannel at 2.55 in the video, you indicated that the voltage can be read off the back off gas valve through a pin using multimeter. It will be very helpful to know that way because you can test voltage without taking thermocouple off a gas boiler or furnace.
Hey Abe Syed, I showed how to use that in one of my latest videos, and the tool is linked in the description section- ua-cam.com/video/PiCmfW1rTRY/v-deo.html
Very nice! Just to be sure, when the thermocouple is not holding the gas valve open it should read around 30mv and when it is holding the gas valve open it should be around 13mv? just want to be sure, Thanks.
Acservicetech, friend would you reccomend to get a electricians license? If you have your own Hvac business would it benefit to have one so you can do the wiring? Do you make more money doing both or would it be overload? Say if the man works 75 % faster than regular worker. Are we talking about 100, 000 a year? I'm just getting out of school, young amature. Truly blessed by your knowledge.
Honestly I would try to get as many licenses as you can but just focus on one at a time as they usually require 5 years experience in each trade alone. You want to be the problem solver, the one people rely on and then eventually the hardest thing will be learning to say no depending on the size of the company. There certainly is an efficiency of the person compared to another in reference to self employment. In regards to working for an employer, some companies even pay flat rate instead of hourly, thanks!
I will say that this test is not 100%. I do this everyday and I cant tell you how many times a t.couple passes a test, but is shorting. These types are cheap. Spend the $12 and just replace it. (That translates to $300 for a homeowner)

Thank you. I didn’t know that. Used to replace thermocouple and if still not working - gas valve is next. Usually it is a thermocouple...
Thanks Alex!
Open test 20-30mv / closed test 10-20mv / drop out test 2-4mv @90s max
Thanks William!
Excellent video. Well done. Perfect explanation.

Great great. i enjoy your educational videos. Can you show how to test thermocouple on the furnace using the pin?
Thanks Abe, are you talking with just the pins/probes of a multimeter?

Does it matter if red clip goes on copper part or vise versa when testing thermocouple?
No
