❤ So great how the venue has a chapel and is inclusive of sports fans with disabilities. No doubt the Olympic Stadium can be filled by all of us Mr. Lukas Stege's multilingual fans from all over the world. 😊
Zinedine Zidane's infamous headbutt in 2006 World Cup Final and Usain Bolt's record in 2009 World Championships of Athletics. These two athlete legends really dominated the news when it comes to greatest sport moments in Berlin's Olympiastadion.
18 years ago 2006 World Cup Final. The World also witnessed Zinedine Zidane's infamous headbutt on Marco Materazzi leading to him being sent off and Italy winning it via penalties.
Even with the compromises necessary to fit silly football matches inside the running track, it's still a good stadium. And it looks like it would be easy to add a ninth lane, which is becoming the norm for top stadiums.
The capacity is only slightly less than Gelora Bung Karno(78k capacities), but offers facilities that GBK does not have like a private lounge. And of course the history of the two stadiums itself was a same. It used to hosted both 1936 olympic games & 1966 Asian Games in the past.
I know very well this German Stadium. Like he mentionned, this is also where they welcomed the Olympic Games in 1936 and the Nazis actually built it. Married there ? Would it be much better if wedding ceremony takes place outside not underneath ? Hopefully the Maanschaft would make a good impression for the Euro 2024. The team itself is getting better and play much better. Absolutely love their latest jersey. An hommage and a reminiscint of the 1994 (the year I was born)
I know you mention him as a general footballer but Harry Kane - at least at the time I'm writing this - never played a game at Olympiastadion...Hertha weren't in the Bundesliga last season.
Anyone knows why was it build facing West-East? Who thought that would be a good idea to make it so sun would shine right into the athletes in the evening?
Actually, the largest football stadiums in Germany was Dortmund's Westfalenstadion, with 81,000 capacity. Again, the same restrictions applied to this stadium, with standing section being converted to seats.
I'm confused why there's Champions League sign in this stadium when Hertha is not even playing in Bundesliga. Then I realise Union Berlin have to move here because Försterei did not meet UEFA standards.
Incorrect. Union had the option last season to stay at the Alten Försterei for champions league game, after their case was heard and ground approved by UEFA, but their president Dirk Zingler CHOSE to play at the Olympiastadion much to the fans annoyance, because it generated more money.
German people I'm guessing? Took 2.5 years apparently. Not sure if we knew who laid the bricks, dug the foundations etc.. I'm sure the authorities have those names.
One thing you didn't include. The Nazi's Won the games. They had 36 Gold medals. Which Proves The Germans had the greatest Athletes during the 1936 Games!
The Germans were the best in the medal table. Hitler and the Nazis had worked towards this and massively supported athletes in preparation. They wanted to show the Nazi state positively abroad. Jesse Owens was nevertheless the most successful athlete of these Olympic Games with 4 gold medals.
Surely German football needs a new home? Even though there'll be controversy if it's knocked down - or if they build a new national stadium outside of Berlin.
Why? Its just a Sport Stadium now and it has earned its place within Europes great Venues now by hosting legendary Matches like the WC Final 2006, CL Final 2015 and Cup Final 2018 when Frankfurt defeated Bayern
@maddinpictures3102 It's a very out of date stadium with poor seating and a big running track around the pitch. The parallel would be old Wembley, which I'd argue was even more historic (other than the Nazi thing), but nevertheless had to go eventually..
this stadium is so nice, I have been there for a Beyoncé concert and was impressed by the venue inside and out
Thanks Lukas and DW for the wonderful video on the stadium. Will be there on 15th June cheering for Spain.
Wait! You got tickets?? Can you take me with you plz??😊😮
Ha ha would have love to. Honestly 3 weeks ago we were looking if somebody could join us but now we don't have an extra place 😢

u mean.. Bolt's Records. 100 Meter and 200 Meter.
Magnificent stadium.
Was there in 2019, loved it,can’t wait to go back! ❤
Beautiful and classic, suitable for being a national team field.
Old but well preserved stadium 🏟️
Another fantastic tour Lukas and very interesting I been there twice on my 5 visits to Berlin
A iconic landmark for the germany football history.
Thank you for this video. When i went, the stadium was still closed to visitors because of Covid. One day I hope to try again
Thank you Lukas.
You're welcome 🤗
Stadion yang bersejarah bagi olahraga sepakbola dunia... terimakasih sudah berbagi semoga selalu bahagia

Spain took it home 2024🤩🏆⚽
Yes, deserved! 💐

The most memorable stadium where Zidane headbutted Materazzi back in 2006.

Allianz arena and veltins arena next please
Anyone knows why was it build facing West-East?
Who thought that would be a good idea to make it so sun would shine right into the athletes in the evening?
Allianz arena is 75,000 capacity. Just larger than Berlin
Not for the euros. The standing section is converted to seats and all seated means there’s less capacity.

The only mistake in this video was not telling about the Usain Bolt record in 100 and 200 meters made in 2009 there, which is STILL ON!!!
Im A Football Fan. Sure This Stadium May Be Bulit by Nazis But It Will Forever Being Iconic Germany Stadium!
At the first seconds, mentioning Nazis with such a joyful voice and then IMMEDIATELY glossing it over is NOT on my radar...
Nothing can whitewash it’s history.
WFT? Nobody wants to whitewash the history of this stadium?
Forgot to mention who originally built it 💀💀
German people I'm guessing? Took 2.5 years apparently. Not sure if we knew who laid the bricks, dug the foundations etc.. I'm sure the authorities have those names.
Please don’t say soccer instead of football again. The majority of your viewers are calling it FOOTBALL!

That symbol is not swastika...mind your language 😡😡😡
Share correct information....
Huge difference between swastika and naji symbol....
There is no other translation for 'Hakenkreuz' than 'swastika'.
