- Star Wars: The Force Awakens discussion with writer-director-producer J.J. Abrams, producer Kathleen Kennedy, actor Harrison Ford, writer Lawrence Kasdan, production designer Rick Carter, visual effects supervisor Roger Guyett and costume designer Michel Kaplan on December 19, 2015 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
Thanks for uploading this, Oscar. Nice to see a small, little independent film getting some much deserved recognition.
Lol
I loved The Force Awakens so much! JJ and all these people here did a great job bringing Star Wars back to its original charm.
Original charm hahaahah!!! The original movies had to bad CGI for you to emotionally like it.
Thank you JJ.
Every body deserves an Oscar here! They are all beautiful people. Also the stunt men who made this possible!
Star Wars The Force Awakens blew my mind, it was an amazing film that will go down as a masterpiece.
Agreed
@@cbacara3711 And you are 5?
@@bumblebob5979 dude you're coming off as such a wannabe snob. People can enjoy mindless action as well as artsy cinema
loved the movie, hopefully it gets some nominations for the Academy awards
+Ricky Vazquez 1863 I thought Adam Driver and John Boyega showed of some great acting skills. I hope they get nominated.
+Mees i dont think they're gonna get nominated, in the oscar's eye their acting is only somewhat meh :/
kai sheng How would *you* know?
***** because i never seen any actor from star wars nominated for an oscar before, and go watch the revenent, steve jobs, the martian etc, u can tell their performances was better.
kai sheng I didn't like The Martian performances at all though. And it's still possible for a SW actor to get nominated, even if it has never happened before.
I hope it is nominated and wins best original score because John Williams did a amazing job
Hopefully Best Visual Effects too...
+keegan long I agree and it has been nominated :DDDDD
This was an excellent film, easily the third best Star Wars motion picture. J.J Abrams is going places if he carries on making sci fi films
CGI buys them who cant and dont want to have a content with persona. CGI is just a light show. Happy you like hollow fiction.
@@bumblebob5979 Haha so glad you worked out my film taste with one comment. I also love those hollow sci films such as A Space Odyssey and Tarkovsky's Solaris, to name a couple
Well done to the cast and crew of Star Wars: The Force Awakens .This captured the spirit and spectacle of the original films. The film utilised every trick in the trade.
Ford needs an Oscar
I hope Hollywood takes notice and stops overusing CGI in every single fantasy/sci fi blockbuster. The public has become numb to CGI fests and the overwhelming succes of The Force Awakens in part proves this.
+Jacques Nomdefamille CGI is a great tool. Don't blame the tool, blame the people who implement it badly.
It didn't overuse CGI. People just assume that because it's a massive blockbuster means it used CGI wherever possible. It didn't. As JJ stated, they used practical effects and sets wherever possible then CGI was used to do the rest. TFA used Visual Effects in all the right places, that's why it looks so good.
Well a lot of the shits in TFA were cgi
*shots
Lol
really insightful look into how they make such a spectacular movie!!
Cant believe the Oscars Snubbed JJ Abrams and the Force Awakens.
I liked how they just tacked Harrison Ford on the end there, the only actor up on stage amongst all production/directing crew. Who's complaining though? We practically all love Ford and any chance to see him or hear him talk is welcome... I just can't help but notice that funny fact that he's literally the only cast member up on stage for this in what otherwise would be a purely production/directing based interview/conversation without any actors.
If Star Wars: The Force Awakens wins at the oscars, I would cry
+Spiderman Productions yeah, if they get nominated in maybe best actor or actress, sound mix, editing, score, visual effect
The Revenant is obviously going to be the big thing this year. I actually do believe Leonardo DiCaprio will win this year. But what Star Wars obviously is gonna win is: Best Visual Effects and "maybe" Best Original Score. And it will probably be nominated for all the technical ones. It will probably be nominated for Best Picture too, but The Revenant is gonna win that one.
Eric Cartman yes, the revenant will be won many, not all of it
+Eric Cartman yea, I agree!
Damn, pretty much all my guesses were true, with exception of the Best Picture one. It got nominated for a lot of the technical stuff, Best Visual Effects and Original Score. Might see who wins...
Mesa the only one who wanted to see Jar Jar Binks Origin Story?
You guys did it! Almost impossible task, and you did it!
'What was really exciting to all of us was that we rejuvenated this whole side of the industry that thought they were obselete.'
I hope that these films will mark an awakening in Hollywood. That film-makers will pause before highlighting parts of the script and marking them FAO Computer Department.
CGI creatures look fake, even that one character (orange face, can't remember the name of) in this film stood out. CG is good if you want to add in a muscle wobble or a wrinkle of the eye, but fully rendered CG creatures look unnatural. Why don't they do the whole creature practically and put dots on the creature's face so they can tweak with CG if they want to. That is far more effective in my opinion than trying to convince people that this fully rendered CG creature fits with all the practical ones.
+FX Lord
"What was really exciting to all of us was that we rejuvenated this whole side of the industry that thought they were obselete."
Who the fuck is "we"?
"CGI creatures look fake,"
The high praise received by Gollum, Oliphants, Davy Jones,, and all the Serkis apes all paint a different picture - if you wanna be that hipster guy who goes "CGI is just bad, man", then feel free.
Puppes have their own ways of looking unrealisic - the texture is photoreal, but the restriction in the movement may be more jarring than a slightly animated looking surface.... or just as jarring.
"why don't they do the whole creature practically and put dots on the creature's face"
James Cameron thought the idea of making practical Navi was inherenly stupid and he wasn't gonna do the movie until motion capture had developed enough - so that's your answer to your "maaan if filmmakers just considered not doing full CGI".
+l GrandusHoopus Just giving my opinion. Sorry that you don't agree with it.
All the talk about making things real and seamlessly blending CGI, yet this movie had tons of CGI heavy characters, that could easily have also been puppets.
+chris q then stop watching star wars if the only thing you're gonna do is nag, little bitch
+chris q Other than Maz & Snoke, I don't know of any CGI characters. For example, the whole bar scene is puppets except for Maz.
+chris q there;s only two character in CGI
JJ looks 12
oscar of the best " not really complete rip off ?
conversations you had, not about story, but about feeling? laugh out loud
which story anyway, right?
who are you bullshitting, yourself?

my boy will need to grow up and earn his own money to buy a Disney toy, book, whatever.
+J Lind It's actually pretty hilarious how wrong that article was. Yeah, everyone hated Guardians of the Galaxy, right? And Ep VII was painfully kid-friendly, with tons of child characters. Every character was so cool and snarky, too.... nothing awkward about Finn's character at all, right? Nope, he was just a black Han Solo. And oh man, there was so much sex in the film. Like every female was scantily clad and overly sexy! Then there was that part where Boba Fett came back. And the film had no blood whatsoever!
Except, not one of those things is true. The movie is getting great reviews, is making all of the money, and the vast majority of fans love it. Face it, you're in the minority of internet hipsters who decided the film sucked long before it ever started filming, and now that it's well received you're on an even greater crusade to inform everyone else that they're "wrong" while you and the rest of the haters stroke each other off in your "rightness" of how Abrams "ruined" the franchise, and you're the only ones sophisticated enough to see it. Then you desperately trying to cling to any "fault" you can exploit to prove your point. "It was just a remake of the original movie!!"
Who are you bullshitting, yourself? I feel sorry for your boy for having such a humorless, lame ass father. "No you can't have Star Wars toys! Why? Because it's all just a marketing gimmick!! I'm fighting corporate entertainment by denying you of the toys you want!"
There's a major difference between capturing the essence of something and redoing the same thing for kids to prevent your film form being a total fiasco. I didn't like The Force Awakens. The Force Awakens = A New hope, but for kids. PLAGIA
+Cinemadaptation A New Hope was A New Hope, for kids...
