  • So, what exactly makes an Irish pub an Irish pub?
In the 1970s, Irish architecture student Mel McNally spent his final year in school studying the design of Irish pubs (partly as an excuse to drink with his buddies). They hit up all the famous pubs in Dublin, and brought along their sketchbooks and measuring tape to answer one question: What makes these places work?
Their findings resulted in an international business and now, McNally ships Irish pubs to every corner of the globe in 40-foot long containers. And inside of those crates are the elements he's found that'll make an Irish pub "authentic."

The shipping container bit @3:02 -- where obviously the actor has nothing to do with the site -- IS ABSOLUTE GOLD

It's reassuring knowing whatever strange city work sends me to, I can always find the Irish Pub in town and know exactly what I'm getting. Good beer, good food and a warm comforting environment.

I'm an Irish mutt (meaning my mom's side of the family were from Ireland and some of my dad's...). I love this, I'll really be checking out the environs a bit more next time I go to an Irish pub!

You really should have used a real picture of Nel McNally for educational reasons. the main reason I clicked on the video was to be educated first, entertained second.

@@mowkikowski I dunno, I always thought it was National Progressive Radio. Maybe that was the original name and later they changed it to Public. Or maybe not.

      Doesn't surprise me at all!
The TV adds are almost criminal.
Theres a dozen micro breweries within 20 feet of each other.
College courses on the production, marketing, and consumption of it!
lets not even mention mixing prescription and over-the-counter drugs with it.
