We pick our coloured peppers as soon as they start to turn from green - the tiniest spot of colour - and let them ripen in a cool room - they don't deteriorate if we make sure they are dry when we pick them and they taste great. I never, ever use green peppers - not a flavour we enjoy at all, but the coloured ones are a favourite for all!

I plant my sweet peppers with 2' between each. Plenty of airflow, and minimal problems. Organic near Buffalo, NY. Gotta wait till the end of August- sometimes Sept.... But worth it. Growing Yellow Monster, Ozark red and Orange bell from Baker creek. All are doing well!

I started my bell pepper from seeds this year. I'm very proud of myself. We usually buy plant starter's. The taste of a bell pepper you have grown is 100% different than those you buy in the grocery store. I loving my garden this year. Tomatoes, green bells, cucumbers and banana peppers on my plate daily. 😍

One thing you can make with the ajvarski (sp) peppers is Ajvar, a Czech roasted red pepper and eggplant spread. Mix 3.3lb roast red peppers with 2.2lb roasted eggplant, ~6 chopped hot chilies, ~6 crushed cloves of garlic, ~1.5 tsp salt, black pepper, 1/3 cup olive oil, 2 tbsp red wine vinegar. All the flavors are to taste. The spread is great on bread as a dip, as a sandwich spread, as a pasta sauce, as topping on grilled chicken, etc... I hope you try this and enjoy.

I got them from Baker Creek also. The first 4 or 5 were regular size for me and then the rest were mini. I was so confused. I thought it was a result of cross pollination. It is a very prolific plant though. I only planted one and I really like it. Will definitely plant again next year.

I like just a little heat but, i love sweet. And when i first take a sip of the syrup it is sweet, very sweet but, once you swallow WOW, the heat is there. She made so much everyone had both for Christmas in a pretty little jar with twine decorating it. It was so pretty didn't want to open. lol

One is called Charleston Bellpepper not so popular. The real popular one and the better of the two I believe is called Carolina wonder. They are for sale at Southern seed exchange exposure whatever it’s called! lol. The Carolina wonder is my favorite one and it really does help with that bad nematode.

We have grown lemon drop for years...a big hit with the local Chinese restaurants...I trade the peppers for meals! They come up volunteer each year and are one of the last to turn yellow and get that full citrus/sugar flavor. They dry well, but don't keep the pretty yellow color. They are almost as hot as a Habanero pepper. The plants are huge producers of small bright yellow wonderful peppers. They turn purple when it gets cold at night...and are even more attractive. We fill bowls with all the colors of peppers in the fall and they look like huge bouquets of flowers for weeks! Love peppers...

Here we take peppers and slice them into 1" slices, toss into pan ( I use dutch oven) with oil and butter and fry them up with a little garlic if you like. When limp, pile them into a " torpedo " roll that has been buttered, sprinkle with salt and eat. YUM. You can sprinkle parmesan cheese on it if you like. I used green bells for this.

Re: the cross of emerald & jalapeño. Each year I save one or two of my pepper plants and winter them over as a house plant. Just before a predicted frost, I will severely prune the pepper to about 3 or 4 inches, leaving only a few stalks. Pot them and keep them near a window with daily turning and water. In just a week or two, the peppers are sending out new growth. Yes, we will harvest peppers over the winter. Come spring, transplant to the garden. This will work for a few years. But, I hope your seeds are a true cross and will bear the parent characteristics. I live in the mountains of central Virginia-- Really enjoy your channel.

I love green peppers and found that frying them up with mushrooms in a bit of oil and salt is oddly delicious. Not sure if anyone else would think so but one of my cats certainly agrees and she will beg me for some of the green peppers too, haha. I wonder if they have a red version of the not-a-puegno because I'm also a wuss about heat but i do love the taste of sambal I just can't eat a lot of it. I feared a not spicy version would just taste like a red paprika pepper.

I usually buy green and red and when I want to splurge I'll treat myself to an orange or yellow bell pepper when I want a variety of color. Here where I live jalepenos are plentiful to buy along with habaneros and some times scotch bonnet but that's about it for spicy fresh peppers. I also like serrano peppers which aren't spicy but sort of mild and has a bit of sweetness. Keep us updated about those paprika peppers; I'd love to see you make paprika from them.

I had the same issue with my Golden Cal Wonders. They are super tasty though and we really enjoyed them (after I cut out the bad spots). I wondered what the deal is with them and why they get the rotten spots so easily? I really thought it was something I did accidentally.

I've never had luck growing peppers, small plants with poor production. And don't usually get color even though zone 7. 😕. Maybe you have developed a new variety with your super sized jalapeno plant! If you're able to grow more next year, think about propagating for seed sales. 😃❤️

I had tried a pretty purple bell once...the flavor just was not there...just pretty. I definitely want to try the Notapeno peppers! We are a mild-Med. heat lovers. We grew green bells and let some turn red and nice mix of color - I chop/dice, flash freeze and but in freezer bags with my onions...Great video and explanation on all the types!

Red chili peppers = Sambal Oelek! I had no idea what to do with all those red chili peppers until i found the recipe for sambal oelek - if you like sirachi or spicy relish you have to try it! Next year I'm growing 10 plants as all of our friends want some. PS - I am giving up on colored bells...

I just tried hot banana peppers last year. It was a young plant and late in the season, so I did not get many fruits. This year is its second season, and I'm looking forward to see how it does. It's now one of my new favorite chili peppers, not super spicy, but a nice, delicious kick. I had a great season with my Serranos, very fragrant, and the taste was incredible! Your peppers are so beautiful!

I’d be saving seeds from that plant too and develop your own variety of peppers the “Living Tradition” Pepper

Would love to know a bit more about the red roaster pepper. What was the name again? The CC is giving me a name that comes up with nothing. Would you be offering seed on etsy? Wonderfully informative vlog! Thank you and God Bless.

Ajvarski. I ordered some from Baker Creek today! Didn’t want to risk them being sold out in February 😂

I’ve got gallon bags of lemon drop peppers and Hungarian wax peppers in the freezer from last year...more than I can use up......lemon drops are prolific producers

Peppers are my favorite as well. This was very informative. Thanks. I love drying and fermenting peppers. I’ve been experimenting with paprika peppers as well and haven’t had a ton of luck. I’m trying sheepnose and one I shortened to PASS from baker creek. I grow lemon drop and pickle them. I grow peach sugar rich to ferment and I love them. Spicier than a jalapeño but a really nice sweet flavor as well. I’m going to make a sauce with them this year. Black Hungarian is my favorite new pepper this year. Very prolific and I think it will ferment well. I have no luck with colored bells. Ever! I run into the same issues as you do. I’m going to try the lilac next year.

Did somebody say peppers? I love growing peppers, but my production is way down this year .... you have much warmer temps than I do here in central Pa, yet my plants are in "survival mode" .... dropping the buds left and right. My plants are leggy as well .... poor (re. terrible) start in the seed starters. I am growing two paprika peppers from Baker Creek this year ... Ostra Cyklon & Leutschauer ... they seem to be coming on now, as many peppers seem to be late bloomers here, and like the later months. I'm impressed by the variety of paprika pepper you are growing, as well as some of the other peppers. Right now my favorite pepper for making pepper flakes are the Cajun Belles ... they have a sweet component, and just enough heat to not be overwhelming. They are a small pepper, but are very prolific .... my best producers in the garden. I think you would like them, and based on your green thumb .... they would prolly go nuts in your garden. Their wall is kinda thin which makes them easy to dehydrate and great for crushing up for pepper flakes. I've been growing them for 3-4 years and will grow them for as long as I am gardening. I really really enjoyed this tour of your pepper plants and may have gotten a few new varieties to think about for next year .... much thanks. Take care to you and your family.
