As someone with multiple disabilities, I would feel very comfortable with a disabled practitioner. They understand the impact of disability in all aspects of daily life, not just in a clinical setting or from an outsider's point of view. I would probably feel more comfortable asking them questions about practical or personal matters.
Wow this is the main reason I’m studying hard to get into medical school at the moment. I’m currently only a sophomore in college, but I’m determined to become a doctor. I was born with spina bífida and I’ve lived a vast part of my life in a wheelchair. I feel like I would not only be able to help patients as a doctor, but also as a friend. I know what the day to day life as a wheelchair user is like and what it feels like growing up in this condition. I learned how to deal with all emotions of fear and uncertainty from how people will perceive me while growing up and I want to pass down everything I’ve learned to any patients that may need it. So I’m not sure if you will see this, but I appreciate your comment. It really reassured me that my reasons for going into medicine are reasonable and will help people.
Thanks for this video. I was born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita and I'm a doctor too. I finish med school and now I'm studying for the last USMLE exam. It wasn't easy to be where I am now. My legs were not strong enough at the beginning of my studies, but I have been improving gradually. And yes, one part of me is worried about the residency, especially because even when now I can walk for hours with my KAFO braces (they looks very similar to Forrest Gump's braces hahah), I can't flex my left arm. I live in Rye, NY and I am planning to be a Radiologist. So first I have to apply to the Transitional Year program or Internal Medicine. I'll try my best.
I'm also a person with a disability (I have Arthrogryposis) and have applied to med school here in South Africa.. Seeing your video, gave me hope that I will get accepted for next year.. The doctors featured in the video are true inspirations to me.. All the best to all of 'em.. :)
This is very inspiring. I have a disability and a chronic shutter and my dream is to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. Anything is possible. Don't let anyone tell your otherwise.

This video has inspired me I’ll definitely become a doctor one day I promise
So why does a Brigham doctor, a Harvard Professor, deny a disabled patient an Aide in the exam room at an appt?
This' so inspiring ❤❤❤
