This is my father. He is just as great a father as he was a soldier, counselor, and scholar. I love you, Daddy. I'm very proud to be your daughter. 🥰❤️ Thank you, Larry, for making all the stories I grew up listening to available for everyone.
Ansley, your Father's story of Vietnam is one of my best. I hope your whole family will watch this video. It was an honor to interview him 15 years ago. I want to call him. Please email me his number. Thank you and God bless you. Larry Cappetto, EMAIL: lcappetto@icloud.com

What a great narrative about his experiences. The level of suffering for the ensuing years is ignored and leaves our vets alone and unable to cope with the memories.
They are Suffering in Silence!!
Mitchell... I listened to every word you said during the interview. Please continue your work. You made it thru your life to help people. Thank you.

Thanks Rick.
Very moving. God best this man and all those like him. May God give him peace for the remainder of his life. Thank you Mitchell for your service. Those that have not experienced the horror that these men have will never know what they really feel. Love them all.
Thank you!!! God Bless You!!!
Ty sir
What a great interview - Mitchell really shed a lot of light to me on PTSD - I'll never forget him and his story and it changed me a little. Thx
A powerful story. One of my best. Thank you for watching.
Thank you Mitchell Young for sharing youre vietnam experience. ❤.
On of my all time favorite stories.
Oh my goodness. I am a 77 year old Marine, Vietnam era, and I have never heard such a poignant, eloquent and exact depiction of Vietnam, the role of our servicemen, and PTSD, the silent but potent disabler of people's minds.
I knew something strange was taking place in listening to Mitchell's initial dialogue only to realize that he is the real deal of a combat Marine and he is also a Psychology Phd who happens to be very effective. Although I never fought in direct combat, years later after my enlistment was over, I was accidentally shot and suffered a comminuted femur with a total femur reconstruction. Never knew why, to this day, I am very "shaky" about things but now have a better insight into my issue.
Thanks Mitchell for your sacrifice, service and dedication to our country and its warriors. God bless you and your work.
Welcome back home thanks again for your service!

@@VoicesofHistory Thank you, Mr Larry!!
Twenty five years after returning from Vietnam, I wrote a poem. The poem was my therapy for my PTSD that was blossoming in my life at age 49. I told someone...I told ME. It helped me go on when all seemed black...the night terrors, the feeling if distrust in everyone around me, the startling sounds, the details of the events. It can be read at the Co. A, 227th AHB, 1st Cavalry website under 'stories'. It is titled "My Package". It helped me see that life goes on...with it or without it. Sure, I think about it nearly every day, BUT it doesn't hold me back much anymore. VN '69-70
Thank you for your service 🦅🇺🇸

It's incredible what a person can see, experience, and endure in war. Our government should be assisting these veterans with anything they need to continue on and live as normal a life they can.
Absolutely, Amen to that.
He's the greatest communicator I've ever heard. It seemed like he was painting a picture and making you "feel" everything while he articulated. Thank you, Mitchell, for your service during and after war.

Excellent interview to hear these vets tell their life and horrors of time in Vietnam. It seems very helpful to them most won’t talk about their service except to fellow vets cause those that didn’t serve won’t realize the actual feeling they go thru cause they weren’t there. I salute all veterans for there service and thank u for ur service
Thank you Louis!!
WoW, a lot of what this guy says really hits home. I am not a vet, but i feel like i have the symptoms of some of our vets. I would love to counsel with this guy. My hat is off to him. Thank you sir for your service, both in and out of the service. Thank you.
HE s still with us Carmine.
Thank you. For my father, and myself.

@@VoicesofHistory No, I am sorry for not being more clear. My sister recently burned all his letters from my father to my mother over a 6 year period, without affording me the time to read them, at least. In doing so she wiped out a large portion of his history, that I wanted to preserve for my 3 sons and others. It's quite a mess, yet to be sorted. When I see these interviews, I think of how I should have recorded his history myself before he passed in 2002. He was a master sergeant , stationed all over the world, as a forward engine change hanger specialist for B 17's and B26, particularly in the North Africa campaign. He held a requisition card that would supersede generals to procure equipment and supplies, and he oversaw 100 men daily. He wrote mom every week, often with poems.
So sorry to hear this about the letters. What a loss. Your Father's story I am sure would have been amazing!!
I never hear you ask the most important question in my opinion, why did the us fail to succeed in vietnam? As a kid I was fascinated by veterans and our wars and I would listen to their stories whenever they would talk about it, the few times they would talk about it. I never questioned
Incredible! Absolutely Incredible!
Lynn, one of my most favorite interviews. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Glad the Lord led you during the war there. Thank you for your service. God bless you. from Texas
Great story. Almost unbelievable.
Glad you enjoyed it. One of my most favorites.
I have Ptsd ,but I never went to war. My PTSD is from 2 bad parents, a molestation and a rape. PTSD is no joke, I sit alone in my camper, I can't trust anyone, and I am always on edge watching for trouble. I feel bad for our vets, I was tested by the military at my high school on a shooting range, and I got 47 out of 50 . The army wanted me to enlist, but because of the PTSD I had that I didn't know about it, I missed an opportunity at a long career in the military. I really feel bad for our vets, and I like to say thanks for putting your lives on the line.
THANK YOU, MITCHELL. LESS WE FORGET..
HAVE A NICE DAY..
Super Useful Interview. He has really thought this through. Always knew some of these things, but he lays it out very well . Thank You , again.
A great interview. There is a lot to absorb here. I have listened to it twice . Thank you Mr Young

Thank you Mitchell for sharing your story and for my freedom.
This interview speaks volumes in explaining PTSD. There is no doubt that a combat veteran is affected by his experiences. I really appreciate these interviews.
I think maybe the most lucid interview I've seen and good work for what you do thank you

“Most of us are wounded before we ever get into the MC.” I was thinking this the entire time. I had my own event later in life that I thought caused PTSD, but I later realized my problems with adrenaline spikes, anger management, and poor stress management stemmed from early childhood. By the time that bad event came along as an adult, I was already primed for the poor reaction to it. I’m glad it’s starting to be understood. This man goes about dissecting it well.
I agree with you about PTSD. I suffer from it too after listening to over 1000 stories. I suffer in silence most days. Thank you for your comment and for watching my story. I hope you are subscribed to my channel. Please feel free to share these videos. God bless you!! WEBSITE: larrycappetto.com
@@VoicesofHistory many of us suffer in silence. I have told my mother a few things and it scared her to death. She doesn’t want to know anymore but now she understands better at why I do certain things. At times my own family is scared of me. People who have never been around violence or had to take human life can never understand what it’s about. My family watched me come home after I left my occupation and didn’t know me anymore. I was that empty shell, that angry unpredictable person that tried to reintegrate back into society but never was able to. I could never love anyone including myself. My ptsd started at a very young age. I was molested by a catholic priest and abused by others. So by continuing in what I did it sealed my fate with ptsd. I’m now disabled 100% by ptsd and other physical disabilities.
Hey man.....love ya Brother......not a military guy here......but know a GOOD man when I hear him speak........carry on Brother.....and by God......Thank You for my FREEDOM !!

I went on some garbage runs in 1969. Remember little kids from 4 to 12 years old, running alongside and jumping on a 2 1/2 ton truck that was rolling down the road. It was terrifying watching those little kids risking their lives for our garbage. Once while leaving the dump, an ARVN soldier came running out with an M1 carbine firing over the kids chasing them out. Whole thing was a heartbreaking mess.

I wasnt in combat and never fired one round at another person while I was in Vietnam. I was in the rear working on helicopters but we were fired at with rockets and mortars' and in my case was almost killed by a sniper. After 6 months my girlfriend sent me a dear john letter that really messed up my mind and caused my heart to turn to stone. I spent two years in Nam and when I came home just like you said my heart was hard and I spent alot of time by myself and my first marriage did not last. I believe any person that goes to war and experiences the sounds and destruction that war entails will have PTSD, I have it and it has never gone away. The VA has helped alot but it is still there, I am now 74 years old and can still remember almost everyday that I spent there and all those I served with.
You are a true hero and it was great to hear you story.

This man/ soldier was very articulate, not only did he tell the truth but he explained it so even a civilian could understand the misery of battle. Just so you know and I know they kill the enemy, age has nothing to do with it. It wasn’t like they killed innocent people, they killed the enemy before the enemy killed them. This man should be commended for his service and also for explaining his circumstances under duress. Those soldiers didn’t get off the plane in Vietnam knowing that they would be fighting people of all ages and that’s the shame they were all put under. God Bless this man, I believe God was watching out for him and we will never know the reason. I pray that he doesn’t feel guilt, because he was put there without the knowledge of what was really happening. I will always be watching from Panama City Florida, USA. 🇺🇸 May God Bless this man and you for bringing this information to the masses, it’s very needed. I can only hope that younger generations are able to see and understand what this man has gone through. He wasn’t alone in this conflict (WAR). PEACE !
P.S. You did a Great job in this interview. All the right questions, God Bless you for your fine Journalism in this subject.
Thank you for your kind words Kirby!!
This is heart-rending. It caused me to have tears; many of these have brought those rears. Age 76,did not serve;I explained in another video in comments there

Thank you Brandon.
I worked with a Vietnam veteran when I was 23 building in ground pools I was the only guy who got along with Don. I loved talking to him about his service in Vietnam the little he would tell me. He said I'm sure you have heard this before but, in San Diego He got off the airplane with miltary uniform on and had a hippy spit on his and called him a fucking baby killer..I've heard them stories but to work with a guy that had that happen to him was wild, he bear that guy almost to death he told me he was trying to kill him but thankfully he got pulled away. The Vietnam vets had alot of bad memories from that time but I always told Don I appreciated his service to the country. I didn't mind working with Don while everyone at the company did not want to work with Don. God bless our troops.

Re:The rotation of units rather than individuals in these new veterans. It did help-BUT the multiple rotations back to the war “undid” what ever good unit rotation may have conveyed. There’s some excellent academic research on this topic.
Veterans should tell their story: They are the only ones who have experienced this phenomenon and can bear witness to the realities of war.

Its so crazy he lived out on the olympic peninsula. I moved from the east coast to washington a decade ago. I first moved to port angeles washington before starting my business and moving to the east side which is loathe because its woke as hell and i despise liberals but if you want to know whats Gods country looks like at least to me, the olympic peninsula is it. Its a magic fairytale old lord of the rings forest with snow capped peak mountains and huge old growth conifer trees covered in moss as well as kelp forest emerald green ocean. Its absolutely amazing. I love the bogachiel river where he was living off the grid. Its my favorite river in the country besides the sol duc river which joins with it going towards la push. i fished the boga river regularly for steelhead in the winter until the last couple of years because unfortunately the left continues to allow the native nets destroying our waters resources. Liberal woke crap.
Anyways, thank you sir for your service and welcome home!

I’m sorry for the loss of your uncle. My mom’s nephew was killed piloting a B24 over Germany in 1943. I’ve known many vets of WWII, Korea & Vietnam. One lovely man who lost an eye on Peleliu as a marine lieutenant.
Raw, powerful, compassionate, real, honest, brutal and one if not the best story you have ever done Larry. Excellent work! I like that Mr. Young is a therapist and his work regarding PTSD is so needed. I hung on every word spoken and I’ll probably revisit this story many times over. And, yes, Larry, your work here is very important because you give the veteran from whichever war he served and fought in a voice and everyone needs to be able to be heard and hopefully to a degree healed. Thank you Mr. Young and thank you Larry.
Jay, many thanks for your kind words. They are greatly appreciated and very timely in my life right now. I believe I suffer from a form of PTSD after hearing all of these stories the past 20 years and now finding that there are very few if any people I can talk to about what I have heard and seen through the eyes and ears of my Veterans. I compare what I am experiencing to the war veteran who has seen human beings at their worse. Death, carnage, destruction, mutilation. I have heard about human beings at their worse and visualize every traumatic moment they share with me, and yet I have no one to talk to about it. Some days I feel like giving up. And then I receive a comment like yours. It has taken a real personal toll on my life and family, something most people watching my films have no idea. I suffer in silence daily!! I feel I am helping these Veterans bear the weight of their burdens. At times it is more than I can bear. My faith in God helps me through the difficult times but it would be nice to have someone on this earth to talk with also. I am sure I am exhibiting some of the same symptoms of PTSD these Veterans do. They call it secondary trauma and echo PTSD. Thanks for a listening ear.
My Father served 66-69 USMC medivac out in 67. My mother said when he came back he was not the same. I know he had sever PTSD. My brother served USMC 91-17 6 combat deployments and he does exactly the same thing our Dad did. PTSD is a serious condition. God Bless You Dr Young
I’ve been watching all of these lately because I am almost 59 years old (born and raised in the USA Massachusetts) and know almost nothing about the Vietnam war, other that what my dad (a Greek immigrant) told me about it. I even went to college ( in Massachusetts) and don’t know anything about it. Most left wing Americans (my age) don’t want to talk about it. God bless these men and women who suffered and died in this gorilla war. Sounds like many were drafted and thrown into it. Thank you for your service and those who gave their lives during this war, May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have you in Abraham’s bosom. Thank you for your service.

Great story, great man, extremely well spoken and brutally honest. Thank you for all your service.
This was by far the best interview yet. Mr. Young thank you for your service, for opening up, and for your work with other combat vets. I am going to somehow convince my dad who is a Vietnam vet to watch this in hopes that he will open up to someone and possibly heal some. To my knowledge, he's never spoken to anyone about his time in Vietnam. All he will say when asked about it is "you don't want to know" and usually follow it up with something along the lines of "there are things I wish I didn't know" and his favorite thing to respond with is "best I can tell you is it's no fun dodging bullets" There are so many times over the years and even today you will catch him staring off into space, but can tell by his eyes he's back over there. I love my dad and would give anything for him to find some sort of peace before he passes. Again Thank you for everything you do and have done Mr. Young!
Kevin, I will pray your Father watches this story and it helps him heal and open up. Many of my Vietnam Veterans felt a weight lifted off their shoulders after talking to me. Please keep me posted.
