If you would like to use this as an instructional video, I recommend the following:1. Watch the video once or twice at 1.5 or 1.75 normal speed (to access playback speed, touch the settings icon and choose the playback speed)2. If your oryoki set isn't put together yet, go to the middle of the video and play from there at a slow speed (e.g., 0.75 normal speed) to guide you in assemblying it for the first time.3. Once your oryoki set is assemblied properly, now you're ready to practice opening and closing it. a. Set the speed of the video to 0.5 normal speed or slower, and mimic the moves. b. So it again, several times slowly. c. Set the speed of the video to 0.75 normal speed and again open and close your set along with the video. Do this several times. d. Now open and close your oryoki set without watching the video. Do it several times. If you get stuck, you can always review the
Just completed a full dathun at Karme Choling. The Oryoki was amazing. And its so nice to see this video is exactly as we were taught and how we practiced opening and closing our sets. Thanks for this in case I forget any step. Sometimes that setsu doesn't make it to the Buddha bowl before I remove the spoon for mouth washing the spoon. It's always something.
Thank you - I've watched this video several time and it really helped me integrate this practice into my quiet days. I have put together an oryoki set together from pieces I already have. Not so compact as yours but it works.
I went japanese temple several times, but oryoki is always difficalt for me. This video was quite useful for correct action and beautiful performance !
Nice presentation. Thank you! There is something extra elegant to this style as set forth by Kobun Chino Roshi for students of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Especially in the handling of the drying cloth. Gassho.
Thank you for the wonderful video, done with great skill, awareness and compassion. I'm going to a zazenkai tomorrow and appreciate the review. It's also nice to see that you're a lefty, too!
I still have doubts about how clean the bowls get ? how long can you use the wooden spoon since it's being exposed to water..and the cloth, isn't that supposed to be washed ?
VERY Good form, thank you for sharing.

Me pareció excelente, simple pero completo al mismo tiempo, muchísimas gracias por este gran aporte a la práctica.
Surprising number of views on this video. Perhaps a "relief" that this subject is interesting to so many people. Nice instruction. Thank you. (Bow)
