22:54 Common misconception-- bipolar disorder doesn't mean minute-to-minute mood swings. It generally refers to long periods of mania (usually weeks or months) followed by a similar amount of depression, and while the manic bit can lead to instant changes in mood I don't think it's the best fit. The protagonist probably suffers from a personality disorder, and if we're going to go with this particular route it's probably borderline personality disorder.
to be fair, we don't know the time frames for any of the memories. which ones come before others, etc. a slow slide into madness could come off as bipolar, or whichever if the segments were shown out of order. or could be as you said, but there were weeks or months inbetween.
There are different kinds of bipolar disorder. One type is categorized by the constant radical mood changes. But as you said, there are also other types categorized by its long term affect.
I would almost certainly say it's BPD, especially since it stems from extreme (and if the game hits home it's that his trauma was quite extreme) trauma.
Rapid cycling Bipolar Disorder still means an episode even every few months. Anyone with "mood swings" that change by the day has a personality disorder, not Bipolar. While the father in this could have very well had Bipolar Disorder, it would mean the memories took place over time for that change to appear. In the original game it makes him to appear much more Schizophrenic than anything, hence the obsession with rats over auditory hallucinations, hallucinations of fire, and rampant paranoia and even then he seemed to have more mental illnesses than two presenting.
Ryan should be all of the scary things in that house, but they don't know it's Ryan til they reach the end, where he takes off the faces of his other vict---I mean, takes off his MASK and reveals himself before brutally murde---sorry, sorry I mean, taking them out for dinner for 'surviving' the haunted house.
I still think a *Cry of Fear* Let's Watch (and/or the HL2 horror mod Grey) would be great, or the scariest of all: *Pajama Sam: No Need to Hide* (muh childhood). Outlast 2 won't be out until next year, unfortunately.
I'm glad that they didn't go and make the father ultra-sympathetic and sad because like nah, he's a complete abusive asshole and he acted like a pretty realistic abuser. Also his daughter seems to only half-ass her forgiveness and overall just puts her past behind her to live her life, which is totally a smart thing to do. What's scary is that stinger where it implies she'll go on to be just as controlling with the high standards her father had.
gavin: "when i have a kid, i'm not going to refer to myself in the third person." ryan: "you shouldn't." ryan. we've seen your streams. you refer to yourself in the third person every time you tell your kids to leave you alone.
My only complaint is that this kind of lacks the aesthetics of the first one with its references to romantic-era paintings and style, but at least there's more plot. Since it's so short it just wanted to tell a story I guess.
10:38 Gavin's explanation of what happened to the copyright of Happy Birthday is kind of spot on. Except "that guy" was Warner Chappell's publishing arm, and they were definitely not cool with it because they had to pay back a lot of the royalties paid out to them for the use of the song.
Did anyone else catch it when Gavin mentions the nurse from Dead by Daylight at 3:40? I think we're gonna get a let's play in that soon, which would be awesome!!!
For some odd reason this game resonated with me. Never experienced any of this in my life but it displays a metaphor for depression and regret in a very ominous way
Huh. While it doesn't look like a terribly /scary/ kind of horror game, the theming definitely hit home with me after living most of my life with the kind of father figure that painter dude seems to be. "Living in a dusty echochamber of screaming and bad art while your alleged dad goes fucking crazy" is about as pleasant to live through as the game tries to make it look.
I'm hoping one of two things was true for this dlc: AH edited A LOT out so it was in reality much longer than 30 minutes, or it was really only less than an hour but was free or only cost a couple of dollars.
I would like to say not all Dobermans are jerks it’s depends on the environment that they are raised in. Because my dobey is a sweetheart who loves to cuddle.
is it just me, or did anyone else click to another window, forgot what they were watching, and listened to the dialogue in a completely different context that started at 17:56
I believe that the most common first and last names in America created "John Smith" as the most common name. At least that was what I read a few years ago.
i think the "why pink" part might have been her becoming her father, becoming a controlling psychotic and the painting melting is representative of the cycle repeating itself?
I'm just saying in my own opinion, were it didn't feel like a lets watch because they did start skipping through parts and we couldn't really see what door they went to until the very end
You know, I would read the subtitles to get the story but there's one teensy weensy little fucking problem...the soup-kitchen that I call internet is on fire and I'm watching this in 144p. *sigh*
In the split second at 23:07, I thought the dad was poised to drop the dog into a fiery cooking pot T_T I'm still not wholly sure what's going on in that drawing...
"What's the most American name you can think of?" Michael Jones is probably sitting 50 feet away.

All I know about BPD is don't date a chick with it

Who else wishes for Geoff and Gavin to do an actual haunted house and they can't leave till they get all the way through it
Ryan should be all of the scary things in that house, but they don't know it's Ryan til they reach the end, where he takes off the faces of his other vict---I mean, takes off his MASK and reveals himself before brutally murde---sorry, sorry I mean, taking them out for dinner for 'surviving' the haunted house.
MercyPlays I like your idea better
They did an RT life with the ah and fh crew going through a horror house, so that's probably all we'll get of something like that.
@@Thunderdownunder7168 Fast forward to 2 years later where both Geoff and Gavin ghost hunt in various haunted places.
@@DarkXork And it's just as gloriously goofy and scream filled as hoped :')
Ahhh.... Nothing beats watching a half hour video of pretty much a black screen.
Turn your brightness up? It was fine.
If you don't have a monitor/tv that is calibrated well enough, it's possible that nothing will get it to a reasonable level. My old tv was like that.
+Axe Ellis Fuck off
think that was a comment directed towards how dark these kind of games are, not AH's recording quality
AColdPotato Yup, pretty much.
Green is not a creative color.
In this case, pink is not a creative color.
This is not a youtube puppet show. This is idiots playing video games
that sounds really boring
It's just a boring old orange
maybe to you but not to me
"She's got one eye bigger than the other.... Maybe Dan would be into her"
I do love Gavin
This DLC sucked for one very important reason. Geoff was barely freaked out by it. I mean, he didn't even spend half the time walking backwards.
It's almost that time where all the horror game Lps start
My favorite time of the year.
i need until dawn 2
I still think a *Cry of Fear* Let's Watch (and/or the HL2 horror mod Grey) would be great, or the scariest of all: *Pajama Sam: No Need to Hide* (muh childhood). Outlast 2 won't be out until next year, unfortunately.
+C. Crosbie Yeah with geoff playing the entire game. Lol
Colin S oh absolutly
"Watch out for bald dudes throwing coconuts."
That Hitman reference tho
Shoutout to Jim Wisconsin.

Who immediately thought about startrek when Geoff said, "I think we have seven of nine" ?
they should get Geoff to play amnesia and machine for pigs. It would be fantastic
no no we need someone else to play the game while geoff watches. geoff is shit at games
+MissKiwi very true
Visually interesting, liked the ending, buuuuuut nowhere near as good as the original.
I kinda want a 'painters wife' DLC now tho.
This DLC looks less like a scary game and more like a visual novel.
gavin: "when i have a kid, i'm not going to refer to myself in the third person."
ryan: "you shouldn't."
ryan.
we've seen your streams.
you refer to yourself in the third person every time you tell your kids to leave you alone.
I cant wait for halloween, maybe a ghost will appear in a lets play
A puerto rican ghost
The Ghost from Lets Plays past?
Well, who you gonna call?
+StatelessGaming what about the spooky scary skeletons?
2spooky4me
You know a game isn't really that scary when even Geoff doesn't get frightened playing it.
Watch the other Layers of Fear videos
i would love to see them play among the sleep.
it doesn't matter what game they play.... as long as ryan is in the room, he's the biggest monster
My favorite three Achievement Hunters. ^_^
I just wish Michael was here.
+TheFingledorf Michael and Jeremy, without Ryan
I prefer team lads
I thought that the best three were Gavin, Michael, and Geoff.
TheFingledorf No, sorry
This is like Layers of Fear meets Among the Sleep
I'm falling asleep from this game.
This game was really lackluster compared to the original. Thankfully your commentary got me through it. Thanks guys. (:
Geoff's face + Horror Thumbnail = a very happy AH viewer.
Yes! Geoff "Ass First Into Danger" Ramsey returns!
Wow seeing an AH video without anydislikes.
What a unique feeling
I like how Geoff misses 90% of the collectibles that are right in front of him.
I love being scared with people.
Most American name john smith
John Smith was British tho.
Wow, its almost like America were british colonies at one point.
And spanish and french
Buck Cherry
Virginia Thrasher. Olympic shooting gold medalist.
4:12 that was a fun childhood memory
Lol! As soon as the birds started chirping, my cockatiel chirped back!
My only complaint is that this kind of lacks the aesthetics of the first one with its references to romantic-era paintings and style, but at least there's more plot. Since it's so short it just wanted to tell a story I guess.
They should of named this Daddy Issues DLC
ah, so the walking simulator finally got some DLC.
10:38 Gavin's explanation of what happened to the copyright of Happy Birthday is kind of spot on. Except "that guy" was Warner Chappell's publishing arm, and they were definitely not cool with it because they had to pay back a lot of the royalties paid out to them for the use of the song.
Hitler didn't have any kids... what the fuck is Geoff talking about?
His extended family still had kids, and that is probably where the pact came from.
barbaro267 I guess you're right.
Isn't Hitlers kids in america (Whoa) the plot to a movie?
His nephews DID make a pact. So, Geoff was kind of close
Why did we let them live in the country?
Hell, why did we let them live at all?
I knew after playing this that Geoff would just love this so much
Did anyone else catch it when Gavin mentions the nurse from Dead by Daylight at 3:40? I think we're gonna get a let's play in that soon, which would be awesome!!!
For some odd reason this game resonated with me. Never experienced any of this in my life but it displays a metaphor for depression and regret in a very ominous way
its interesting because i watched another lp and they used the crayons and geoff used the paint so its nice to see both.
I think the movie Gavin was thinking of is 'The Haunting' - from 1999, the first scary movie I ever saw!
"That was like 1500 frames per second" Gavin over here evaluating exactly how slow the slow mo dog chase is, lol.
hi, I'm Jim. Jim Wisconsin
Layers of Fear is my favourite Let's Watch, period.
not my kind of game but i absolutely love watching Geoff! he is funny as hell!
Huh.
While it doesn't look like a terribly /scary/ kind of horror game, the theming definitely hit home with me after living most of my life with the kind of father figure that painter dude seems to be. "Living in a dusty echochamber of screaming and bad art while your alleged dad goes fucking crazy" is about as pleasant to live through as the game tries to make it look.
yay another one i love when Geoff plays these scary games
"Did the dog just eat your ass?" - James Ryan Haywood, 2016
When Gavin names the Celtics head coach the whitest name he can think of...
In case portraits weren't enough, pictures of flowers! Haha.
Love this
Horror games are the best when Geoff is playing
I'm hoping one of two things was true for this dlc: AH edited A LOT out so it was in reality much longer than 30 minutes, or it was really only less than an hour but was free or only cost a couple of dollars.
On steam it's 5 dollars, so i would go with the latter.
+The Game Killa ok, that's acceptable. If it were a full priced $15-$20 DLC I'd be pretty pissed at the devs
So, this is basically Millie Ramsey's future, right?
or her past 0.0
Malicron The Fuck
It wasn't just the house, it was everything in it!, should have just took a picture.
I would like to say not all Dobermans are jerks it’s depends on the environment that they are raised in. Because my dobey is a sweetheart who loves to cuddle.
4:31 I own a pipe exactly like that one and I'm an artist 0.0
Geoff playing a scary game? God, yes please!
Lets Play Geoff dont give a shit and Hard Cuts - still like the humour between Gav and Ry
After watching Dan Bell videos this house looks like new. Those about roisters really do do some weird things
Kid Gohan/Goku/Gotenks/Goten? is that you?
is it just me, or did anyone else click to another window, forgot what they were watching, and listened to the dialogue in a completely different context that started at 17:56
I believe that the most common first and last names in America created "John Smith" as the most common name. At least that was what I read a few years ago.
The sound effect at 7:50 was in skooks and I can’t take it seriously
Read " The Last of the Hitlers " if you want to know more about how Geoff was wrong
23:07 C'mon Geoff.... just look at it for a second...
this is so much scarier watching it alone, at night, on my phone with my headset, when I have to be quiet so I don't wake anyone.
steve rogers most American name ever
That was literally the least scary "horror" game I've ever watched. 1.7/10
Horror is subjective.
nobody cares :)
nice
It's not really a 'horror' game. I mean that's the genre it fits into best but it's a story driven game first. Much like Gone Home.
The base game is much better, but I'll agree with you that this was shit.
The heavens have sent us gift with this video
Geoff should make a word of the day calendar.
30:16 of course geoff knows brighton, the rehab center, lmao.
So could Geoff actually sit still at the painting or was it scripted?
I really enjoy the gents in the let's watches.
Steve Rogers is clearly the most American name there is.
i think the "why pink" part might have been her becoming her father, becoming a controlling psychotic and the painting melting is representative of the cycle repeating itself?
5:30 Troy Baker is not a bad voice actor......why Geoff? :(
I thought the most American name would be Buzz Presley.
I kept thinking whatever was behind Geoff was some girl just lurking behind him lol
"This game is like walking through doors simulator."
No Geoff, that was PT.
I watched Cryaotic's play through of this too, and lemme say, they Fucked up by not making it clear that the door is the ending
I love that Geoff doesn't pay attention to anything for more than half a second. All that story really eats up my time anyway.
Johnny Utah from Point Break is the most American name, obviously
The Haunting was my first horror movie!
This game spoke to Geoff on a few....
....layers....
Geoff, the painter didn't kill his family. His wife killed herself in the bathtub and he got the bones and blood and stuff from her body.
sweet Scooby Doo reference there Goeff
Ryan: Let's see you make a new DLC now!
Creators of Layers of Fear: YOU HEARD HIM, BOYS!
The scariest thing about this video is only barely being able to ser Ryan. Who knows what that creepy guy is up to in the shadows...
*sigh*
The DLC should just have the dad chasing you through your bad memories of him.
Dont get me wrong i loved playing this game and its very fun to watch but is it really worth DLC?
Most American names: Chad, Jessica
They mention Brad too. I would say Shaquanda, Xander, and Maxx are pretty American as well.
Chad is VERY American.
I KNOW, they should make a let's watch of IB, I very fun game
In the split second at 23:07, I thought the dad was poised to drop the dog into a fiery cooking pot T_T
I'm still not wholly sure what's going on in that drawing...
John Smith most standard name ever
But British as hell.
Blake Hawkins
Joe Dirt. Haha.
For a game with Fear in the name, you'd think it'd be a scary game.
would love to see them do this with albino lullyby
I keep getting scary movie trailers during this video - so far they're all creepier than this DLC.
game audio was a little bit quiet guys, otherwise good video guys c:
