Danny, I have visited Folkston a couple of times, but not during a railwatch weekend. Too many people for my comfort level, but it sure looked like they were enjoying themselves ! Thank you for what you are doing to promote the hobby ! Scrappy Cat
This one turned out great, Danny! Love the overhead drone shots. RailWatch is always a total blast, and this year was no exception. Thanks a bunch for featuring my inflatables; it seems they've become an integral part of the events. I'll have to jump in my fursuit next time! Cheers :)
my most memorable moment with Ringling brothers probably was when the 143rd left Jacksonville headed to Birmingham and we rode right through Folkston and seeing all the railfans watching us
0:11, I see 65 has made it down to Georgia. I have caught this unit 10 times running between Buffalo New York and Cleveland Ohio between 2014- 2016! I thought that unit would never leave the Erie West Sub! Also, great video! This reminds me of an event we do up north here! It is at the North East Railroad museum!
I was there. Thought I saw you Danny for a split second fetching BBQ at the museum. Either way. My time in Folkston was awesome. I was at love Street crossing. Saw 2 trains meet there. And it happened again after seeing the speedy Amtrak Silver Meteor go by was greeted by a southbound covered hopper train pulled by 2 BNSF GEVOs. I stayed till Amtrak Auto Train passed.
Danny, when you get to Heaven, there will be so many trains there, you will be awestruck. Not that God needs a train up there, but HE knows us train buffs will want em' there anyway. So HE will have trains just for us.
I agree that does look like a good place to do rail fanning since my closest tracks go through Crestview and trains about 0400 and 2300 each day. Not the best times to get anything. Ask me how I know about that 0400, try going camping at Spanish Trail Scout Reservation and a train wakes you up at that time daily.
Folkston RAILWATCH is always on the first Saturday in April unless Easter falls on that weekend, which is does in 2018. So RAILWATCH will be the 2nd weekend of April 2018.
As some of us Railfans are in this video I think we can all say thank you Danny! My family and I are at 1:45. I have heard you talk about The ACLSAL Historical Society what do you get out of that or what does the group do? Luke
I've asked that same question on a few of the railfaning peeps vids... no word yet... I want to be in Plant City when the red & blue circus trains return home to the final resting place in Palmetto...at least I'm hoping that Palmetto is the final destination... Nothing has been confirmed that I've heard anyway...
Don't know yet, Chris. I've been burned so many times on a Circus train chase I doubt I'll try another one. Will probably stage at Plant City or Dade City for it.
So... I ran into a CSX Signalman at The River Walk in Bradenton ( I was hoping to catch a train going across the Manatee River Bridge) and we chatted a bit. He had to walk out to the signal light to change out a bulb.. I asked him about the circus train and what he might have heard... He had no idea if the train is even coming back to Palmetto... He said he heard rumor that the train was going to be sold to that guy that tight roped across the Grand Canyon...The Wallenda Brothers... That's all he could really tell me about it... Not much...but something... Really nice guy...we chit chatted for about an hour about his career in the railroad.....42 years, signalman since 98... I asked a bunch of questions and was able to compare a lot of things to working for the airlines, especially company and trade seniority and how to move throughout the companies, starting at the bottom and working your way up... Hopefully I'll run into him again. He does the flea market thing, selling at the Wagon Wheel, so I'll check in with him, hopefully soon to see if he's heard anything new about the circus train...
well around the beginning of the year Nik Wallenda was in the news in a report about him being interested in acquiring the circus. haven't heard anything since. he seems to believe that the circus needs to be modernized like a lot of modern circuses are today however no mention was made about the train at that time.
Sorry about that. We Folkston regulars forget there are folks who don't know where it is. I added location information to the description below the video. Thanks for catching that.
Folkston & Cordele Ga are the best spot for us railfans : )
This is fantastic! Love the way this was put together seeing family and friends out there with the "real train show" going on!
Good to see plenty of young folks enjoying the parade.

Thanks for sharing Dan.
Yes, you can't really beat Folkston for just hanging out and watching the trains.

Awesome video Danny! Look at all those railfans! It seems that Folkston Georgia is a place where the people in the town appreciate the trains.

Great video, Danny. Amazing how many new faces are in this video. Aside from a few of the regulars I hardly recognize anyone!
Another great video Danny, but I missed your narration and all your knowledge. Oh well, can't win them all =)

Thanks Austin. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice catch of engine 256, the SCL unit.
hunter dawso I actually caught it twice in 24 hours there, at 2am and a bit later that day
I was there, it was amazing with that CitiRail duo
Yes, and of course I was at Dixie's eating lunch when that piggyback train passed with those CitiRail engines.

Yay, didn't make the video again!! Let's keep the streak alive!! Great video Danny and as always, great to see my old friends!
Dispr VLL
OK Pal. The streak ends NOW! (HaHaHa)
That looks like it was extremely fun! One thing I've wondered, have you ever been recognized by somebody that you don't know while out and about?
Ha! Thanks! Yes, but only after I speak. I don't do enough standups in my videos for people to recognize me.

How've you been Danny?
Are there any events near Atlanta you will be at?
Hey Danny, about how long is the Railwatch event?
I've been following a facebook page about the last few months of the circus train.Any plans on chasing the last circus train run south?
I've asked that same question on a few of the railfaning peeps vids... no word yet... I want to be in Plant City when the red & blue circus trains return home to the final resting place in Palmetto...at least I'm hoping that Palmetto is the final destination... Their last show is Uniondale, New York on May 21st. Now when they go south is anyone's guess. I just wish the show didn't have to end :(
