@@AntsScandinavia jo i have the same glass (broken as well lol) but just a view question how does the moss doesnt dry out cuz mine always does and also what about hibernation
Great idea, I've been enjoying a very small colony in a mason jar, once the airflow issue with mold was solved, it has been very nice and small/ manageable. A suggestion for keeping the fluid within the ground to keep moving (stagnant water bad) : Plant a high moisture plant (eg. Small bamboo? ) deep into the lowest layer, then plant low soil moisture plants in dryer top layers of soil. This keeps the water moving, as it is used. And both plants are happy! Thank you for the video! Very innovative.
Dudee! This is so cool, those temnos have a perfect home now, they’re so shy sometimes. I have experience with them and in some months when they realize they’re the only ants on that setup, they will be much more confident. Also the islands are so good looking, your cracked glass look makes it more epic
I would love to see one INSIDE an aquarium.Looks kinda clever, since if they try to escape they gonna be fish food. And the water will retain most of the warm that ants like.
Rorther that is an awesome idea! Im planning to combine my formicarium with my aquarium by using the ants that drown in the little pond as fish food. Sounds a bit morbid, but i would only do it if a natural death occurs, as a small treat for my fish. Any ideas on how i could combine the two little ecosystems more effectively? (I love my queen ant, saved her from a body of water and have been really happy to go on this journey with her. I will obviously not do anything unnatural or something that would hurt them, i would never be able to do that to my ants!)
@@aprilsage5695 Beware: Ants have formic acidic and not all fish can eat that. And not all fish like eating and too. You might need some testing/research before trying that. Also you need a good aquarium to filter to be sure it's not causing issue to your aquarium paramaters. Other than that, i'm not sure how to do that more efficiently. I really like the ideia visually, but its kinda concerning at the same time for several reasons. Needed to be done for a professional hahaha
The island looks awesome! I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, but I’m waiting for some of my colonies to get to a good enough size to move them into one.
This is GENIUS, its simple, cute, it makes yoy recycle the broken glass, cheap, and can fit and look good everywhere like desks, shelfs and coffee tables!!!!
For irodymirmics bicknelli, ugh i dont know how to spell. but a word of advice use baby powder as a barrier instead of vaseline its extremely good at housing and last word of advice for keeping the species they like to haaave dry nests rather then moist
1. Do they sting? 2. Is qyeen like 1-2mm bigger and if nearly completely brown with same body shape as workers? If both yes then prob dp called myrmica
Hey bro! This setup looks absolutely gorgeous! Being creative and not using the regular building material really gives everything a new character anf makes it much more interesting ^^ But i have some critique: Temnothorax isnt really the best species for this kind of formicarium... They dont dig in soil, they only live in hollow twigs or nuts. Another problem is that more ants can die than new ants are born... I can only solve the first problem: Get a hazelnut, drill a small hole in it (about 3mm), carefully open it, eat the stuff you can eat and then glue the two halfs together with aquarium silicone. This should be a perfect small nest which fits in the theme of your formicarium :D I hope your small cuties thrive and we hear of them again ;P Have a great evening ^-°
YES! The nut house! Dammit I forgot to add that.. Shit... I have other temno colonies, which both nest in bamboo or in nuts... why didnt I remember that hahahaha. Oh well, thats for reminding me bro!
Ants SEA you can do that, but it will need to be MUCH bigger. There’s not enough space for filters, substrate, and hiding places for shrimp. Takes a lot more work than dumping fish or shrimp in, but still possible with a larger set up.

Yep, I know, buuut they often live in moss as well, therefore the moss. As well as the dead root structure :D But I have to say that perhaps I didn't add enough "areboreal" wooden nesting space indeed... Might have to fix that :)
Just make sure u don't go on vacation, because the water will evaporate and the ants will excape
Haha, yep already did that mistake lol. But temnos are so timid, they didnt escape lol

Ants Scandinavia do you have a way to deal with escaped ants?
Ants Scandinavia will this set up work for the species Lasius Niger or irydromics bicknelli?

Doubt it will. Lasius are bigger, more mobile and their colonies grow quick. You would need bigger container.

If the colony is kept small it could be possible
I would say no, however if you ahve a much, MUCH lrger container, then yes. They need the foraging space

They only fly for their nuptial flight. Then their wings fall off.
Could Formica Pacifica fit in this? I am thinking about getting them
No Idea, most likely not
you might want to put an acorn in the vivarium because it might be an acorn ant colony because acorn ants are part of the temnothorax group

Srry dude..
My queen ant died just a few months ago, i think it was infertile
What are the lyrics to the songs?
isnt an ant colony outgrowing a small terrarium really fast? im genuently curious.
temnothorax doesn't grow that big
Awesome !!!
:D
I like it but not going to ask a neighbor to fill the moat every time I’m gone overnight. Nice styling of the hardscape.
Im late but it wouldn’t really dry out overnight so it should be fine
Nice! Why not put some fish in the water part?
It's too small
And too shallow
