From a VHS tape recently rediscovered in a dusty basement - this inflight video was made for Cathay Pacific in 1994/95 by Scott Riseman Lipsey Meade (big:group).

Swire gave up a large part of the stake to Mainland-owned Air China, but Cathay Pacific reciprocally owns a large stake of Air China. Air China owns 18% of Cathay, while Swire owns 40%.

I remember even as late as 2009 (when I was 8 years old) having to put my Nintendo DS away once we were about to land on Northwest Airlines.
I think the rules were relaxed circa 2012 (in the USA at least) to allow the use of mobile phones on airplane mode.

Not quite. Swire still owns 40% of Cathay Pacific. Air China owns 17.5% - Cathay reciprocally owns a stake of Air China
