Having been excluded from the territory that constitutes the Comarca Ngäbe, Buglé and Campesino to the immediate west, the indigenous peoples living in the region of North Santa Fe (a region they refer to as 'Urracá,' after a 16th century indigenous warrior and chief who led the resistance against Columbus), they are vulnerable to land theft and contamination in various ways. In this video, they present the challenges that they face and their aspiration to be legally recognized by the Panamanain state as their own comarca.
This video was made as part of a participatory community video-making workshop conducted in August 2017 by the Center for Indigenous Conservation and Development Alternatives (cicada.world).
