Chris, I totally agree with your assessment but not necessarily how you described it. The stops are not for emergencies. They are in fact there to support the weight of the car and has nothing to do with a hydraulics failure. They are designed to be used exactly as you did. Raise it up and then set it down on the stop. One thing I did in my Quick Jacks video that you didn't is you can actually grab the hydraulic ram and rattle it in the brackets so there is ZERO load on the ram when the lift is on the locking bar as it should be. If it were to rely on hydraulics you wouldn't be able to disconnect the hoses and leave a car on the lift which is totally acceptable practice for long term storage. Not bashing or trying to be critical. Just offering a different perspective. I am totally jealous of your weather this time of year!
Yeah those locking points don't look all that beefy to me, but just my opinion. I'd still use jackstands.....2 at least. Why not? Only takes 30 seconds and it could save your life.
Good stuff. People are always complaining about something, not being safe, to use jack stands. Yet, those are the ones working under the car, using plastic ramps with NO jack stands.
WOW!! That side-to-side lack of movement is impressive. That was always my concern --- that it was shakey or a little wobbly. It actually looks more stable than jack stands.
Still, use jackstands! My husband works on tractor hydrology and can easily show you the scars from being surprised by a faulty connector or old hose! I have work with these lifts, so I know they are made with high-quality materials. However,...that doesn't stop your partner from driving over a shovel and cutting a hose while you're under the car. Use the jacket stands, please!
I think the people suggesting additional jack stands weren't worried about the movement, but were worried about the locking mechanism, which I am as well. I have not seen how the locking mechanism works in any of these videos.
I did a full transmission replacement with a miata on the BL5000. Had quite a bit of rocking with a sketchy duct taped wood block on jack setup for the new tranny insertion..
I've used them on my C7, Lexus Rx350x, Infiniti G37X and a Jaguar XK8 and it works great. Oil changes, Fuel pump pump XK8, trans fluid drain and refills, diff and front transfer case oil, serpentine belt replacements, ect. Made all these much easier.
I have had my quickjacks for a couple years now and always wondered about the lateral stability, you really built up my confidence by pushing on your car, something I thought about doing but was always a bit on the fence. I live in California and have wondered about earthquakes while having my car raised. I wish they sold an adjustable X Brace to lock in to them in the middle after being raised, I might have to make my own with turnbuckles. Thanks for the video.
$995 at Costco a couple months ago. Love it. great shoulder and knee saver. but , per ther instrux, I put jackstands fore and aft. Zero stress. Not high enough to change out the catback, however.
I just picked up some quickjacks for working on my corvette. I was impressed with how well they held up, I also did the body weight test as the manual suggested, but I'm a little heavier than you. Wonderful product.
Thanks for the "stress tests" on those Quickjacks, Chris! Thanks also for doing a demo for the bare bones product. I have used 303 Aerospace Protectant for all my fender well cleaning/conditioning, as well as engine detailing final dressing. Looks like there's a good alternative to be had here in case I ever run out of my 303!
I have a C6 and IMO a QJ or a lift of some kind is mandatory for any DIYer. I have the 7000, so I use it on my large suv and minivan also. Love my QJ! Nice C5 BTW!! Good video!
I know this video is a little old and my question may be buried in previous comments but for example when changing the oil on a C5 the back of the vehicle should be a little higher than the front because of where the oil pan plug is located, my question Chris, when using the Quickjack is there a safe way to elevate the rear of the vehicle to accomplish this? Thank you for an excellent review of this product.
Thank you for going through the trouble of doing this test and showing it to us. I'm in the process of getting one. (the 5000 series). I have a 75 Trans Am and I like to tinker with it and check on things.😁 Anyhow, thank you for the rest of the video too. Question for you, If i wanted to leave the car up, at least enough with the locks on the 1st point and have the wheels off the floor for an EXTENDED amount of time, would that be a problem for the jacks. Primarily getting it back down again, come way later?......
Hello, I enjoy watching your channel. I am a true Corvette gal. I am currently on my third Corvette. My first was a used 1976, second was a new 2010 Grand Sport and last was a new 2019 Stingray. Looking forward to seeing the new brakes on your Corvette. I watched your video on painting your old faded calipers red. Great video. My Stingray is white with dark gray calipers. Even though I would love to paint them red, I just don't know if they will turn out well. I even purchased the Corvette lettering stickers. If I paint them, I'm afraid the stickers won't hold up as well as the stock painted calipers over time. I think I will leave well enough alone and let the dark gray calipers stay. I also enjoyed your last video on the lift stability. Thank you!
It gets trickier when using couple blocks for SUV’s the higher the adapters the less stable and always concerns that the rubber adapters will give in or pop
You've got your QJ turned around backwards... The big sticker side NEEDS to be toward the engine / heavy weight side for safety, where the footing is more UNDER the engine vs. further back like you have them. I made this mistake in the beginning too on my rear engine 911.
I own a 1998 Firebird and my husband did a 6.0 LS swap using only these Jack's! Even though the motor had to come out the bottom! You need 34 inches to get the engine out, and these lift to 37 inches!
Straight from the QJ manual updated with the TL series. Page 7 "As an added precaution, you must always use auxiliary safety stands under the Vehicle while elevated on both QuickJack Frames.". So they must have some second thoughts about being sued and the safety.? I'm not sure putting jack stands under it which will be lower and have space between them and the vehicle would actually catch the car if it were to come down. They would likely flip out if it came down at a bit of an angle. But bummer you have to fool with stands as well as this $1500 jack solution.
That little pipe extending from the inside of your wheel well... Is that to keep your brakes cool? Awesome video btw and thank you for the demonstration!
I use mine for years. These guys at QuickJack have excellent customer service. They go above and beyond. I can explain how if you want. I bought the heavy duty model for 7000 plus pounds because the base is wider by 20% or so but be warned they are HEAVY. These quick jacks rust very quickly and cannot handle being outdoors much. Just one season (I would try to dump out standing water by tipping on side and hitting with leaf blower) left outdoors over Winter and they rusted terribly. I sprayed with WD40 to slow down rust but not much luck. Most people won't have this issue. I still use them allot but really would *be happy pay extra for a marine version. The last thing is the 3rd party sellers like Northern etc. do not know much about these and I would have gotten the 12V version if I had known about it but found out even after I received my quickjack. If you have a vette you can afford this so get it. Lifting and lowering several times during some repairs and mods it pays for itself.
I like the quickjack, I will most likely get one on sale. As for detailing the fender well, I personally use P21S General Purpose Cleaner and a teflon brush, then hose it off, dry it and then apply the under carriage spray and wipe down.
For anybody that says Quickjacks aren’t safe can you please provide a link to some examples of jack failures? I keep hearing how dangerous they are but have yet to see any actual failures.
I like the idea of these. But, for the price, they don't take the car up nearly as much as I'd like. I'm still considering, but I'm also debating going with some kind of higher-lifting or 2-post lift which can still work in a standard home garage. That said - is it recommended to leave the car in a lifted position for an extended period? Like a couple months?
I have the 7000 pound quick Jack. I really like it. I think the construction is solid enough that I feel safe with the locking mechanism in place. Failure of the hydraulics is a remote possibility but I think the locking mechanism is very good. When underneath I put a couple of my 12 ton Jack stands under the car anyway, and it makes my wife feel better about it.

I have the same model Quickjack that you have and routinely use it to lift my 2017 Subaru STI.I'm also the original owner of a 2001 Z06.I want to lift the vette with the Quickjack but am not sure how to do it without damaging the vette.I bought the aluminum pucks that fit into the rocker panels and also have the rubber blocks for the Quickjack.Do you put the pucks in the rocker panel holes and lift with the blocks on the Quickjack?I want to do this right and not damage my vette! Thanks
Yes, use both the pucks and the blocks. Depending on how low your car is, you may need to use a floor jack to raise the rear of the car to slide them under.
they deff are high enough for that. I've seen guys pull trans down pretty easily on Mustangs with them as well. I personally think its a little tight for that, but it can deff be done.
The reason why you still put Jackstands as a redundancy is when someone else thinks you are not under the car anymore and lowers the QuickJack, or wants to kill you or a freak accident where the locks fail or get unlocked.
Great video. Have you or are you able to start the car while on the Quickjacks? For example, if you wanted to change the oil and warm the car up first, can you start it while in the up position or are you supposed to lower it first? Thanks.

Put side skirts on my 04 just a couple of months ago, I see you also have them. Any concerns or issues with the jacks and the skirts that I should be aware of?
@@mycorvettelife even more impressive. I was considering stacking the blocks for another few inches, but I have been a little scketched out about that.
I used my quick jack for years for my kia rio to my challenger to my silverado 1500 well worth the money and much more safer then jack stands only thing i hate is setting it up 😆
QuickJack sells well made heavy duty wall brackets that you can use to store the jacks on a wall, but, the jacks are heavy, and,if the screw come out of the wall that hold the brackets someone or something will get hurt!I have mine stored under my C5.Slide them in,and slide them out! Also,I removed the metal bale from a five gallon bucket and bent it around so it would fit on the end of the Quickjack so that I can pull them where I want them to go!
This is awesome! Couple questions for ya.... 1 what brand is in this video you are using? 2 How much are these quick jack stands? 3 I’m sure like my 2018 camaro you have jack points on your car like mine? 4 are the jack stands erected with air? Thanks for the video man, I do road course days and swapping my rims and pads this looks so much easier.👍👊🇺🇸🤘
Hey Chris, that BareBone liquid looks magic. Did u ordered it from Internet? Can't find it right here in Italy. And, yeah, your new upcoming brakes look awsome!!! Just one stupid question: can the stock oil brake pump deal with those monsters with no upgrades? Great video as usual, man. Take care.
It’s made by Chemical Guys. So whoever the rep in Italy is for them, you should be able to get it from them. Or just order online. The stock C5 brake master cylinder and pump will work just fine with the upgrade.
dude you are very crazy with what you did on the jacks by pushing your car. I went and bought one right after I saw this I wanted to see how safe they are and not just what the manufacture says.
That's a good point, and the solution is simple. You put jack stands under the car just as usual. The only difference is you have to put the stands in a slightly different location because the QJ is going to be using the side jack points. The QJ manual even tells you to do this. This is the same concept as putting the wheel under the car when using jack stands. I bought 6 ton jack stands just for this purpose. The 6 tons will go up high enough to match the QJ max lift height (about 21"). The 2 ton or 3 ton jack stands will be too short. You can actually use the QJ to raise the car and then lower it down on the jack stand.
Chris, you make great videos, but all of these quick Jack's have one fatal flaw. I watched a guy let down his vette, but he never released the other side. Yes, the car came down on one side and slid off of the jack. Bad on his part, but it happened.
Excellent. I always wondered how laterally stable quick jacks were. Perfect demonstration!
Chris, I totally agree with your assessment but not necessarily how you described it. The stops are not for emergencies. They are in fact there to support the weight of the car and has nothing to do with a hydraulics failure. They are designed to be used exactly as you did. Raise it up and then set it down on the stop. You are correct. I guess I misrepresented. Some people were thinking that the Quickjacks held the car up purely by hydraulic pressure.
Quick Jacks are totally safe. I use them all the time with my C6 z06. Love them!

@@mycorvettelife awesome thanks for the info!
What model quick Jack do you use?
5000SLX
Thanks
That push test was good. I think they just maybe look kinda skinny, but people don't realize how solid they are.
Great video showing the safety of them. I get this on my video as well.
Do you use the blocks with yours?
Yes I do. On the Vette I additionally use pucks on top of the blocks.
Which model of Quickjack are you uising?
The 5000 series.
@@mycorvettelife thanks!
Chris,...which exhaust you have on youre C5, can you tell me. Grtz
Full mods list is in the description below the video.
What model number quick Jack?
5000
Good tip on the cleaner. Good video thanks Chris👍
I use six ton jack stands… with the quick jack
Do you think that the quick jack will be effective in a grave driveway>
Not sure, but it sounds like it could be a little sketchy.
Hey Chris, great video thanks! I think I need to get these jacks!
1.I use my iPhone to video.
2. Costco has them for $899
3. Yes
4. No, they are hydronic. And the pump requires a normal electrical outlet.
My Corvette Life Thank you
How much are they?
Around $1500
@@mycorvettelife cool thanks. If you had an affiliate link i would click on it
Hey Chris, that BareBone liquid looks magic.
I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t know 100% if it was safe.
Unlike using 4 jackstands there is only a little cam that stops the weight from crushing down on you
Sure but what is the probability of a that little metal cam from breaking...?
Those brakes are gonna look amazing
He wasn't really pushing. 🤔 IJS...
I absolutely was.
I just look for that sissors to, i just found on the internet the Eagle,...good video, Chris.
Good stuff Chris! The new calipers make me think of Van Halen! (That's awesome!) Your Vette is gonna stop on a dime and give you change!
I have no worries with my quickjacks
