"We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who fall asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope." 1 Thessalonians 4:13
Open the Bible is the teaching ministry of Pastor Colin Smith. Our mission is to use a broad array of modern media to help people around the world meet Jesus. We do this by opening the Bible for them, helping them open the Bible themselves, and equipping them to open the Bible with others.

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Amen!
I grew up with this kind of Biblical teaching and it's encouraging to hear messages like this one. Thank you for sharing. God bless you, Pastor Colin.
1 THESS.4:16 BUT IF JESUS HASN'T RETURNED; ALREADY DESCENDED FROM HEAVEN. THEN ALL THOSE THST DIED AS PROFESSING CHRISTIANS HAVE NOT BEEN RAISED, GONE, TAKEN TO BE WITH JESUS.
As well as comfort, through other passages I've mentioned, maybe I should have added 1 corr: Ch 15; 51-58, and Hosea 13:14, or Math 9:24, John 11:11 too, to pass on my thoughts about this better. The way I interpret these things (and I may be wrong), bvut death is only a time of sleep or rest until we wait for God to return and raise us back to life. I guess you can also look at Revelation - 1st and 2nd judgements.
I think the person giving the sermon has it not entirely accurate. He talks about the dead as ALREADY being wiith Christ, in Heaven. But the Bible clearly says the dead are dead; sleeping. See also 1 Thes 4:13-18. See also Ecles 9:5, deut: 18: 1012, Isa 59:1, Math 11:28, Hebrews 4:16, 1 Tim 6:16, Ezek 18:4, 1 Kings 8:46, Rom 3:23, Plsalm 146: 3, 4., Plasm 115: 17, Psalm 6:5. The dead, and souls are sleeping until God calls them. 1 Thess confirms this, and gives comfort.
"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" 2 Corinthians 5:8
@@tealssermonpicks7467 Hi. You'll need more than just 2 Cor 5:8. "Present" with the lord" means much. Meaning, we're present with the lord right now!
When we die, we either are present with the lord (comforted; asleep), or not, depending on if we took Jesus as our savior.
Also, IF you are suggesting that all that are Christs that have died are already in Heaven, then that would mean that they have been judged already. Yet, the judgment doesn't occur until AFTER Jesus' 2nd coming.
I hope this helps some.
@@michaelbest7872 all who die in Christ, their body is in the ground, their soul is with the Lord, until the first resurrection happens.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
@@tealssermonpicks7467 thanks for your thoughts on this topic. 1 Thess 4:16-17 does not mention that the soul is with the Lord.
Yes, the body and soul are separated at death. The body dies and decays. The soul continues on. To suggest the soul is literally in Heaven with Christ is not what the Bible says, that I can find. Have you?
@@michaelbest7872 the thief on the cross said “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:39-43,).
Jesus did not say, “After a determined time of misery and suffering, you will be with me in paradise”; nor did He say, “After an extended period of unconscious sleep, you will regain sentience and be with me in paradise.” According to the promise of Jesus, the repentant thief would join Him in paradise that very day. That is how I know as a believer in Christ alone, that the minute I die, my soul will be with Jesus Christ in Heaven.
