- Footage shot by @fiveelementphotography7956 in Brussels, Belgium, in Autumn 2021. Here's a live version of Cannonball Rag by Merle Travis, played on my @matonguitars Custom Shop model.
The audio is a blend from Anthony's camera shotgun mic, and the direct signal from my guitar's AP5 Pro pickup into the in-house PA.

Hey John, any tips on how to improve those fast single lines that make up so much of this style?
I have always thought that my fingers are just too slow to play them. I would love some expert advice.

It's a great question Brian! The single line licks are the most difficult for me as well, especially with a thumbpick. What I do is use a metronome and start very, very slowly and make sure I'm playing the lick correctly at slow tempos, then gradually build the speed up over maybe 10-15 minutes at a time until I'm up to near performance-level speed. If you can maintain a steady, relaxed playing style at slow tempos while gradually bring it up to tempo, you should start to feel it all "click". It takes days and weeks of practicing though, so just persevere and you'll get there! That's my 2c worth 🙂
