      tbh same, im a pickle lover and I LOVE UMEBOSHI. for some reason near my local Japanese store, my umeboshi is super smooth and dosent look wrinkled. btw it isn’t actually that salty, it taste more vinegary like pickles. maybe it depends where you got the umeboshi??

      I LOVE super sour candy, like i will lick the sour powder off warheads and throw away the candy itself. I also love pickles and sour dill pickles do not last long around me. Really need to try these next time i go to ky local asian market!

    There is no way they gave them the strongest Umeboshi. I’ve been to Japan and seen another tourist eat one and been taken to their knees.

      i mean, youre supposed to eat the umeboshi with its accompanying food, only an idiot or a tourist (which is basically the same thing imo)
      would eat umeboshi by itself. that said, i love super sour foods, so naturally pickled plum is an all time favorite!

    I'm part Hawaiian and grew up eating ume's and i love them! Eat them straight out the jar any day everyday.

    Umeboshi plums and/or umeboshi plum paste are both great for curing an upset stomach. It's really amazing how quickly it works.

    They should have at least given them some rice a long with it. It’s not very good on it’s own but my grandmother always made us eat it with either Sushi or Rice.

    I would recommend eating this with rice to break-up the sour taste. I used to get them in my bento boxes when I was in Japan.

    I agree with eating it with rice. By itself, it's super strong. Rice helps mellow out the flavor, in a manner of speaking.

    I am used to eating those. Probably because I am Half-Japanese and my family usually eats Japanese food so my grandmother harvests pickled plums and sends them to us, and they are sour but I got used to it.

      its a way of keeping freshly cooked rice fresh when transporting it. the salty/vinegar flavor balances nice with cooked rice.

    Normally, I'd prep a some sticky rice and nori for this. It's way to overpowering on its own.

    in Trinidad and Tobago it's called preserve/preservative fruits....fruits like cherries, plum, mangoes, prunes, peach, pawpaw are well known.....I grew up eating these things and i still do actually 😁

    Ngl you couldve at least given them some rice to try. This is literally made to be eaten with rice, similar to a condiment. Its like chugging mayo or ketchup.

    Well it's usually eating with rice not alone I think. Like when they make bento box they usually put one in the center of a bed of rice
