@@rrss5497 it IS related to vicodin, during this dream she realises House is back on vicodin. The candy cane is linked to vicodin. Look at her reaction at 2:14.
This is the moment she figured out House is back on Vicodin. In all of the dreams she had (nice film references btw), house was eating candy or holding candy. In this clip, a candy cane. At the end of the episode her daughter refers to pills as candy which explained her dreams: House was using candy again. Look at how bright his eyes are. The running to the light at the end is not her death, it's the death of the relationship. "Forget your troubles, come on get happy" is of course his escape in drugs instead of confronting a painful situation. It's brilliant. Welcome to circus House.
I was honestly mad that his relapse is why she ended the relationship. He's an addict. She knew that getting into the relationship with him. She told him she accepted his faults, that she loved him for them. Then she dumps him for a relapse. Addicts relapse, it's an extremely common and normal part of the road to recovery. When someone you love is going through a relapse being a good part of their support system means telling you love them and being there for them, being understanding and supportive. Instead she left him when he was at his most vulnerable. The worst part is that, from the moment they got together, he saw this coming. He predicted it that first night they spent together. She told him he was wrong then went and proved him right. She should have just stayed with Lucas. Great analysis, very insightful.

This will forever be one of the most surreal moments in the show. I’m actually very curious on what the cast thought of this, like the writers and directors go “ok we’re going to do a music sequence with Get Happy” and the cast go “?”
Myles Hoglund I saw an interview with Lisa Edelstein (plays Cuddy) where she said she was really excited to get to do a dance number because she and one of the other producers/writers would gush about So You Think You Can Dance (the dancing reality show Fox had) - and it was one of the choreographers and judges who did the choreography for this scene!
Welp, it's not in that special feature so I saw/heard her talk about that somewhere else. But the choreographer was Mia Michaels from So You Think You Can Dance, and Lisa Edelstein said she took some dance classes after cuz she loved the dancing so much. Hugh Laurie's only comment on the dancing was a joke that he wasn't really much of a dancer cuz he's British, dancing isn't legal there LOL
If you're curious why that is, it's how they revoiced the chords' harmony in quite a few places to have a more minor feel. Not to mention it's scored very sparsely Yay music theory lol
Towards the end, the backing track isn’t always saying “ready for the judgement”, sometimes it’s saying “taking the drugs”, and honestly I think that’s the cleverest thing. Cuddy’s subconscious is _screaming_ at her to notice that House is back on Vicodin.
This is like, exactly how dreams look. Its so hard to articulate and describe a dream because it jumps around so often like that. A lot of shows just do... coherent conversations. This is so cool this is so so accurate and amazing.
I guess other people are more imaginative than I. But when I do realize I am dreaming it’s fun, you can go flying for example.
@@sarasamaletdin4574 Since dreams jump around so much you need something to retain some structure, otherwise it becomes chaos. Ever notice how your brain is totally fine with the most abstract plots and events in your dreams while you weave them, but as soon as you wake up and dissect what you can remember it becomes bizarre? Doing this dream sequence with enough symbolic meaning to progress the overall plot, without confusing the hell out of our conscious brains would be incredibly difficult. Normally such visual examples work ok for a few seconds, like a sporadic nightmare sequence. However as soon as you want to make it more meaningful you need more time for the audience to take note of your message, at which point you will lose their attention and focus. When you add music, time becomes a relative structure so you can make a scene as 'dreamy' as you like. Of course our brains don't need it while dreaming since everything it creates 'makes sense' in our own world, but for the sake of the film something needed to be added so it makes some realistic sense to our conscious brains. As for music in dreams, I had this moment once or twice where I dreamed of a perfect musical piece that made me tear up from it's perfection, but when I woke up I lost it. Tartini had a similar experience with his 'Devil's Trill Sonata', but he managed to write something from his memory of the dream. He said that it was nowhere near the perfect piece he heard in his dream, but as close as he could get it.
Once I had a dream that I moved from my house to my grandparents house and School and then to a military base WITHOUT LEAVING A SINGLE BUILDING It was like the whole city was a giant skyscraper
As someone who suffered a lot with nightmares as a kid, that nightmare was spot on: everything is going well or like an ordinary dream until it turns ugly when you least expect it. It gave me the creeps when House's dead-eyed stare and the surgical lights started appearing and Cuddy realized she's lying alone in the guerney, cause that's exactly how I felt right before waking up and crying to my parents. Eerie stuff for me to this day.
This surpassed House's self surgery and anything else for me as the freakiest scene in the series, it just came out of nowhere and the song would not be so freaky as it doesn't sound maniacal alone per say but man, the choreography, imagery, and Hugh Laurie, just so on point and really make it surreal and sooo eerie - the facial expressions of that man are just unbelievable, and as someone else said, god bless whoever made the choice for him to wear eyeliner, it just emphasizes everything

As sad as this episode turned out to be, an what this vision really represents (Cuddy's sub conscious telling her House took drugs to cope with her illness) whoever thought up this sequence is a GENIUS. Its surreal, funny and sad all at the same time. I luv Hugh Laurie in eyeliner and skull rings and Cuddy's dress. HOUSE, ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS EVER!
🎵 Forget your troubles, come on get happy 🎵... I had this tune in my head for *ages* when this episode first aired! Love this show! I own all but the last season on DVD so far, but I wish House was still on Netflix!! (Canada)
This is amazing! The more I watch the more I can see. The people in the red clothes with the rod of asclepius are the patients who died under her care. They all have sunglasses which means that she doesn't remember all of them but still feel guilty about them. The hospital stuff is like a morbid send of party that only have to care about her only until she don't need them anymore. Thats what I think Cuddy is thinking about stuff. And House is portreyed as both her judge and supporting boyfriend which he couldn't been in real life even thought she knew he cared. His role keep changing. I think he was her judge because Cuddy trust House even if he seems mad. She know's that even if she is lost he want be. As her support he was cheering her up and making it easier for her. And I'm pretty sure that there is a lot of other things that I just didin't notice. Simply Amazing!
love the sequence 0:50-1:08 the thud house does with the cane and the pose is *cheff kiss*, as everyone dancing magnificently and house just walk slowly towards cuddy, perfect
She completely gave up on him. I cant stand that I'm so mad over a damn show. He could have not shown up at all. He was there as she went under and there when she woke up. Yes he was scared and needed help to be there, but damn it he was there. If she couldn't handle his addictions and his issues she should never have entered into a relationship with him and then broke him more than he already was. I have mental health problems and find it very difficult and uncomfortable when a loved one is in the hospital, I almost cant even visit them it freaks me out. It makes me feel awful and like I dont care enough but I promise I do. Not everyone handles things the same way. Ugh sorry, i just hate a lot of directions this show took towards the end.
I get where you’re coming from, but she made the mistake a lot of people do in entering into a relationship with a flawed person expecting him to change. She had a daughter to think about, too. She and House have always loved each other, but they’re not right for each other. It’s not her fault that he took drugs knowing how she felt about his addiction. Since he was an addict, it’s not entirely his fault either-like you said, he was using as a coping mechanism-but it’s absolutely valid grounds to break up with him. She needed him to be there and be sober, and he couldn’t do it. It’s sad, but it’s nobody’s fault. Except the writers, I guess lol.
@@WriteWrongs it's especially hurtful after what they made her say in the beginning of the relationship. How he was the most incredible man she'd ever known, and how he didnt need to change. She knew he was screwed up and told him to his face that she'd love him anyway. Ugghhhh lol
i think when this originally aired most fans were pissed that the dream sequence has an ambiguous ending so it's unclear in a narrative structure whether Cuddy lives or dies. i'm pissed cuz this is the closest i expect i'll ever see a collab of Hugh Lurie and Massive Attack....AND I WANT MORE!!!!
I love the little references to other medical scenes in TV and movies in this show, but my favorite is the red scrubs worn by the cloud doctors being identical to the ones from the infamous "Mutant Woman Surgery" scene from Dead Ringers.

It's never a good tv show without its iconic musical number in the most out of pocket way possible.
honestly, how i met your mother comes to mind
SUITS!!
2:16 The look on Cuddy's face is like she almost made the connection before dreamland swept her back up.
Citrus Lump Good catch.
Yes
What kind of silent hill is this???
Cero Obscuras Silent Hill Musical.
Hot nurses
The best kind
Silent hill: Get happy
The best one
So amazing that cuddy managed to dream up a choreographed dance sequence and house singing such a powerful mind
Hugh Laurie sounds almost exactly like Richard Kruspe from Rammstein.
Have a listen at Emigrate - WAR
omg he does ! never realised that before
insane, as a giant emigrate and rammstein fan im surprise i hadnt noticed he really does sound like rzk
Столько лет прошло, а эта сцена до сих пор не выветривается из памяти. Отличный был сериал.
Well imagine... as I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor and I can't help out to hear...
NASSAfellow oh God yes.
Somebody gets it, i write sins not tragedys
This was the first thing I thought of and I’m not even a P!ATD fan! I like Panic but I don’t listen to all the music.
Can't help BUT to hear, no I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words.
Shazzle Mi Dazzle I CHIMED IN WITH A HAVENT YOU PEOPLE EVER HEARD OF
This is a medical drama.
This is a show based on discovering conditions and illnesses.
Yet there's this.
I love it
🎵 Forget your troubles, come on get happy 🎵... I had this tune in my head for *ages* when this episode first aired! Love this show! I own all but the last season on DVD so far, but I wish House was still on Netflix!! (Canada)
Because you're a fan
House isn't just not on Netflix in Canada, it's just not on Netflix anymore :(
i was in mexico a week back and i watched it there, it definitely is still there
might not be taken off of Netflix in Mexico, then
It's on Amazon Prime Video Now.
I bet when the cast were doing rehearsals they were thinking "what the hell have the writers been smoking?" Lol
Oh I'll be right back I'm just going to binge House on Amazon.
Im close to series 8 been watching for two months
I’ve tried so many times to watch the series, but I just can’t get into it though I want to.
@@sarcasticallyrearranged oh it's so good give it a try
Virgin Joker vs Chad House
True
He is kinda not a virgin anymore
Even attempting to sing in a nonnative accent is insane to me. Hugh Laurie is so talented
AND WE STILL NEED IT TO BE ON MUSIC STREAMING PLATFORMS 😭
i was so amazed, what a masterpiece
Who else loves this vertion of this song more than the original
I do
I was absolutely obsessed with this when it was on and searched for a clip for years. The ending refrain kills me. So good.
The best song used in the show after " passing afternoon" in the episode (wilson's heart)😊
Ashmit Season 7 episode 15 Bombshells
One of the greatest moments in television history.
No matter how many years pass, I loooovveee watching and listening to Hugh sing and perform this!! *swoons*☺️
This is the greatest thing I have ever seen ever in my life
2:25 its literally saying "taking the drugs!" This is Cuddys "house" mind telling her hes back on vicodin
It says “waiting for the judgement day” but sounds similar teag
Happy: Yes
Ready for Judgement day: Yes
The Sun is shining: Yes
Hotel: Trivago
House: You idiots!
Was good until u said hotel
My mom and I love this scene so much that the second verse is her ringtone in my phone. I love hearing Hugh Laurie sing to me at least once a day.
@@WriteWrongs yeah, I figure the writers made all this happen because lisa edelstein was leaving. Ugh, just sucks haha
@@OhhowHelovesus777 Yeah, agreed lol.
@@WriteWrongs it's especially hurtful after what they made her say in the beginning of the relationship. How he was the most incredible man she'd ever known, and how he didnt need to change. She knew he was screwed up and told him to his face that she'd love him anyway. Ugghhhh lol
Oh they pulled a Christina/Burke situation.....thats dumb
watching this high for the first time was amazing
The irony that house is singing about being happy
Hell, even this was better than Joker 2
The production of this is actually amazing.
i think when this originally aired most fans were pissed that the dream sequence has an ambiguous ending so it's unclear in a narrative structure whether Cuddy lives or dies.
i'm pissed cuz this is the closest i expect i'll ever see a collab of Hugh Lurie and Massive Attack....AND I WANT MORE!!!!
I love this scene. It would have been even more perfect if the 3 dancers would have been his team members on the stairs.
i find it impressive that he can sing this whole song 100% in an American accent, also why do i love hugh so much.
Therapists: dreams have a deep meaning
My dreams:
I love the little references to other medical scenes in TV and movies in this show, but my favorite is the red scrubs worn by the cloud doctors being identical to the ones from the infamous "Mutant Woman Surgery" scene from Dead Ringers.
isnt dead ringers british?
I wish I was a fly on the wall of the writing room when they decided that "a musical number in the style of Panic! At the Disco" was the correct choice for this scene.
This episode also introduced the Axe-Cane-Shotgun, way before RWBY. Good stuff.
Judy Garland's version came on the other day at work and i started singing along and my coworker was surprised i knew the lyrics. Admitted it was because of this amazing scene 😅😆
One of the best episodes! I love this whole sequence.
Its actually surreal how soothing his singing voice is compared to the House voice
