I have an issue with the idea that space travelling, advanced intelligence life forms could be hostile/aggressive. Surely, to advance to the point of interstellar travel or even approaching it, a life form would have to evolve beyond aggression or it would have destroyed itself in the attempt? (As we seem likely to be doing at the moment)
Except we already have a counterexample to that line of reasoning: humanity, as the same argument could be made for any sufficiently complex development or achievement. Surely, a species that managed to invent all the complicated things we take for granted in our daily lives must have been intelligent, wise, and cooperative. No aggressive species could have ever come up with things like philosophy, mathematics, or the various complex technologies that brought us things like semiconductors, machine learning algorithms or quantum computing.
