What started as a mango farm on 25 acres in the heart of San Jose farmland, Acre has evolved into a restaurant, bar, hotel and events center. Upon arrival, the walk to the restaurant is through lush vegetation and canopies of palms, mangos, and centuries-old Cardon cactus. The modern concrete design of the place blends wonderfully with the farm to table restaurant. We dined on their brunch menu at the bar area. We were greeted by the mascot Burrito, a recent rescued Burro who thinks he is a puppy. Oakley was not too sure about that description and kept a watchful eye. The open kitchen gives diners a show. These chefs are blessed with freshly grown ingredients and utilize a wood-fired bbq.
The bar is a world unto itself with a tasting room for the house tequila. The mixologists have award-winning drinks and there is no lack of variety. We chose the Ojo Rojos to go with our brunch. The simple salad was a delight with fresh arugula, radishes and tomato picked that morning at the farm, the ricotta cheese was also hand made fresh and the beet crostini gave it a nice crunch. I chose the hearty Bacon Ranch Fried Chicken Sammy with sweet potato chips. Both were delicious. The farm to table concept is alive and well in this area with both Flora Farms and Tamarindo restaurants close by.
Team Cabos Finest always enjoy doing restaurant reviews and this was another chance to spend some time at this amazing destination. The grounds include the farm, pool area, events lawn, fire pits, bocci ball, trail systems throughout the grounds, and hotel tree-houses. The Acre animal family includes peacocks, roosters, Nigerian dwarf goats, puppies needing a home, and don’t forget Burrito the burro.
The tree-houses are rustic meets modern with walls constructed of locally used branches. These sit high up off the ground with nice intimacy and privacy. We spoke to some couples who were enjoying their stay and all seemed thrilled with this unique hotel concept. Nightly rates start at $275. Each tree-house has a king-sized bed, a small bathroom, outdoor shower, wi-fi, and patio overlooking the grounds. Stays include daily two-course breakfast, morning yoga, and free rein to enjoy all the ever-growing grounds have to offer.
The restaurant and bar are the centers of attention and the heart of acre. The staff are all smiles and happy to make your meal experience. Savor it in Chef Luzande’s food, a marriage of global influences and local ingredients that evolves with the seasons. Taste it in their innovative cocktail program, with award-winning concoctions.
Overall I would describe the time at Acre as relaxed but refined. We left feeling happy and content and will surely return for another tasty meal.
