head on over to 82nd ave if you're looking for a real nice spot to camp... why would you go to portland? just why? the entire city is just a shat hole now.
Solid advice in the video. Seatbelts through the door handles. Steel "luggage locks" through doors (can combine with handles). Riot cop O-light flashlight with strobe and glass breaker... like having a space shuttle go off in your face. Also: An air horn... yes, it may not bother people passing by, but you will scare THE HELL out of somebody who is trying to bust in if they're trying to cut up a seatbelt or a lock and you blind them and blow out an ear drum. Remove the airtag's speaker; get a second one, too.
Survival comment: Don't create a pattern. Especially if you stay in the same area for more than one day, change your path, parking, and appearance, and listen to your gut. People like to do the same thing daily, nesting, and bad people watch for that. So, change things daily. PS: I like to be alone. Take a self-defense class and practice often. Muscle memory is key in self-defense. Don't dress to get attention. Be modest in your appearance.
At night I have parked in hotel parking lot. Lights and security cameras keep bad guys away. Also, your out of state license plates are normal for travelers. Just pick a busy hotel or motel in a safe part of town.
Can of wasp spray 25’ jet spray. Way more effective than pepper spray Run some para cord thru the front door handles. Truckers hitch Cover the back windows when leaving your van. Out of sight out of mind.
Good advice. I like the door bolt idea. I'm a guy and I often stay out in the desert to do astronomy alone. A shiny, sharp hatchet makes me feel safe. 😁 Keep having fun!
@@madisonraetogo OH... I wouldn't throw it. It's mostly a heavy metal stick that wouldn't get me in trouble with the cops. One, or even two guys would rather walk away. And... there are many large animals in the desert with rabies. 🙀🙀🙀
All great points! I have traveled, been homeless, and been in very sketchy situations throughout my life and I want to really hammer home that self confidence (how you exude it and how you perceive yourself) will ALWAYS lead you to safe outcomes. What helped build mine up was also taking self defense classes! They are often times free at a local police station! Learn how to use and practice using the weapons you choose to carry with you as well.
3M makes a film like window tinting, that will resist being beaten in. I saw a vanlife couple in South America get attacked and their cameras caught the guy pounding on their glass and it would not give in. The glass was broken, but didn’t cave in, so the guy finally got tired and ran away…I’m going to check into that stuff! Highly effective!
@@gwenwallace6175 Yes it is. They used a crowbar and bashed my glass several times and eventually ran away because the glass won’t break. You will feel safe with security tint on your windows. I also was able to press charges when they completed their investigation due to my dash cam. 😊
I have a RV spot with all the amenities in Coos Bay Oregon if you need a free safe spot for a few. Lots to do around here like Dunes, Beaches, waterfall hikes, And karaoke 😉. And there's a big race this next weekend at the speedway. Portland is crazy lol
I like that you don't let your guard down. In order for a solo female traveler to be safe, I think they have to be smart (like you, and plan for the unexpected). You seem to have good situational awareness while traveling and you're able to keep trouble in check before it can happen. Confidence is a good thing, just don't get complacent. Be not afraid... Madison Rae... stay smart, stay safe, stay happy. 😊
You crack me up! And yes you're right. I'm a senior lady raring to get back out there into life. Retirement is not for me freedom is! 3 blocks from me, a senior guy was murdered in his condo. In yesterdays news a Senior lady was shotgun killed in Houston, in her retirement community. We're living in strange times. I'll be city and boondocking it. I have little fear of other people, I've been through 65 years of chaos/crazy and weapons are fun when you know what to do with them. I'm the kind of mom who gives her kid a blow dart gun for Christmas. My dog is my alarm system and Arch Angel Michael is my back up.😅
my vans fully sealed up at night. i cant see out and no one can see in but i have security cameras that are always on and recording. so i just check my cameras when i need to see whats happening outside of me and if something was to happen, which is hasn't, they are on camera doing it and i can do what i need to do.
Although it won't keep out a determined thief/attacker, if you use the window darkening adhesive plastic on your windows, it will also make it harder for someone to enter your van. It keeps the window from breaking as easily and the broken pieces from flying in on you as much. Don't get me wrong, they can still get in, but it WILL take longer... PS: It can't be the static cling kind. It definitely needs to be the adhesive kind.

hi madison glad you doing good and enjoying your life but like i text you before if you are over 21 you buy a gun in any bass pro shop and also in you dont want it you can get a couple pepper spray for your protection and aluminum beisbol bat also for your protection and also a machete is good for but i recomend you get a gun 380, 22 or 25 caliber gun and you be safe that way, dont forget to get ccw license,be safe and enjoy your life
Wanted to let you know, I heard on another video that Oregon is now making it against the law to sleep in your vehicle on public streets. The Supreme Court is about to rule on Oregon.😮 that should be within a few days by the way. Certain cities in Oregon it’s already against the law and they’re arresting people I heard. Not sure if that’s true yet but they are arresting people outside of their cars in Florida. But Oregon does not want anyone sleeping in their car in their state. Although it would be nice if these two states made enough affordable housing instead of building houses and condos for half $1 million that everybody could afford to rent. I don’t know anybody who works in food services who can afford rent.😢 take care of yourself! Like your videos!❤❤🙋🏼♀️🌴🚐💕
Check local police stats for stolen property recovery. Example for San Antonio: There’s 18 or so plain clothed police officers working 800 of so stolen cars monthly. These guys changed my rental car flat on the way to the airport so that they would have one less stolen vehicle to track.
I appreciate you sharing all of this. I am hoping to get a van this year and make my first baby steps onto the road. Safety is one of my concerns, so thank you for this advice.
Also I'm so serious- if you have any other great pointers for staying alive while doing vanlife, please comment down below!
So when is our wedding?

Smart! Especially in NYC where you’re not allowed to own pepper spray

A hatchet is so cool- I need to practice before I can actually depend on it for use 😆

The bolt in a drilled hole is a great idea.
Thank you! It just makes so much sense

My favorite place to park is quiet neighborhoods that are clean and look safe next to a high wall or tall bushes
🎉You gave a lot of amazing pointers that I actually also follow when I park etc🎉

Who do you people say you look like?
Mandy Moore or young Olivia Coleman
There is nothing wrong with firearms training.
