  • Went to Bear Cove Beach at Oceanview Park, Leading Tickles Newfoundland to get some caplin; they were rolling all along the beach everywhere. Amazing to watch them come ashore like that to spawn and then most die. Now salting and drying some and putting some in baggies for winter trapping season. Those litte fish make excellent table fare when properly prepared. My favourite is half dried and smoked with wild cherry and slice of fresh homemade bread with plum jam and tea. yummmmmmmmm

Nice, I have my freezer full and need to smoke most of them... the dead ones are great for the fertilizer in the garden as well! Hooked my first salmon on the lower Exploit's today and couldn't land her! Always next time... seen a nice 10 pounder today as well!

Wallace Vivian Yeah, lots here eh. No, haven't seen mackerel yet but soon for sure. They're fun to catch on a light 5 weight rod too. Thats what I use. Cheers
