    Congratulations. That is a huge achievement. Comfort zone shattered and something you’ll remember forever. Did it leave you wanting to do another one? Ridgeway? Coast to Coast? Or did it make you want to retire your tent?

    Good one. I started wildcamping, whenever I can, mainly to avoid people like that at campsites.
    Brought back some memories, those vids. Love the feeling, at the end of a long hike, where you can't quite believe the distance you've walked.
    After I finished I said to myself that I'll never do that walk again, mainly because I developed a rational hatred of chalk. But after seeing your trip I'm tempted again. Possibly.
    Really enjoyed the whole series, thanks for that.

    Epic. Straight epic comeback from the cool dude, fueled on nothing but spaghetti bolognese, he utterly smashed the south downs way best record. Setting a blistering unsurpassable pace for the hopeless masses that will attempt in vain for years come, I have confirmed with the Eastbourne council to get a statue erected, it basically looks like a bowling ball with an orange on top :P
    Was there ever a point where you almost gave up? if so what made you continue?
    Congrats on the walk, another one under the belt. would love to see River Ayr Way (maybe thats abit easy going? super beautiful tho) or Rob Roy Way

    • @cdwc
      @cdwc  3 роки тому +1

      The statue sounds perfect. As for almost giving up. At the start I did not know whether I was going to make it, but not having to camp out every night definitely helped. Thanks to my shoes, blisters weren't as big a problem as they were on the Isle of Wight walk. I think once you get blister problems things start to go downhill. So there was not really a point that I thought about giving up. Other than the wind I was pretty lucky with the weather.

    Thanks Marek. I grew up on the South Downs in Woodingdean, not far from Rodmell. I’ve spent hours walking on it and done the whole thing twice. It is actually hard work but you made it really enjoyable. I also recognised more points in your videos than in some others. I’m 70 now and the last time I walked the whole thing was in 2016. I’ve been having trouble with my feet over the past 2 years but am really inclined to give it another go, maybe in September. Is there an upper age limit for the Cool Dudes’ Club? Thanks very much. That was really enjoyable. You look like the cartoons in The Good Soldier Svejk which, if you get into it, is probably the funniest book ever written. Please excuse the piss-taking but you seem like you wouldn’t mind.

      Ha, I just googled the Good Soldier Svejk. I think I might need to go on a diet.
      Thank you very much for joining the club Tony. I think the South Downs is beautiful. It is definitely the hardest long distance path I have done to date, although I haven't done that many. Good luck with doing the walk again. I still think a lot about the Chanctonbury Ring which was my favourite bit of the walk.
      I always like doing the long distance paths in late September as they are much quieter and cooler. I'll put the membership in the post.

    I like how you wrapped that up; it felt like we joined you on an emotional and physical journey. Would it have been more enjoyable if you had taken 9 or 10 days? I'm thinking about nasty things to do to the inconsiderate campers but I'm basically non-confrontational so would have done nothing.

    • @cdwc
      @cdwc  3 роки тому +1

      Yes I am the same as you with confrontation. I think nine or ten days would have been easier, but then again after about five days the beauty of the views wears off a little bit, so I craved a bit more variation. There's no way I could have done it in any shorter time, and I think if I had camped the whole way seven days would have been a struggle. Stay cool

      Hope you enjoy Hayling Island. Good walking question. I do really like walking on my own. I think in order to walk long distances with someone you have to know them really well as you have to be comfortable with long silences. The peacefulness is such a great part of walking. Good question cool dude. Walks like these are generally less enjoyable than the shorter walks because the tiredness is cumulative, but saying that there is something great about getting up and walking each day. I think I timed it perfectly as on the train back from Eastbourne there was horrific torrential rain for about four hours. Now I've got the tent and kit the next multi-day trip should be cheaper). It is OK the spaghetti is vacuum packed and does not go out of date until 2021. The worst moment was probably the last mile of the 23 mile day as I was really struggling. Also when the arseholes were playing the horror film really loudly on their outside speakers, so unbelievably selfish. The last day was possibly my least favourite as I was tired and I really hate it when it's windy and I am next to cliff edges. I think that day is a lot of people's favourites but I found it strangely a bit bleak.
