    Keep the videos coming Mike! There's something about seeing a decades-old watch come back to life with a simple battery change.

    You don't need to loosen the screw at 9:00 to remove the battery on that movement. Just put the tweezers in that hole and slide it off of the battery and it will shoot out of the movement. I usually just use my finger nail to pull it out of the way. Also, now that you know where the spot is on the Seiko to get the stem out, works best on Seiko's if you pull the crown out to the setting position... easier to put the stem back in that way also. Always check the stem to see if it has an "angle" on it so you can just push it back in without pushing the button down.

    That magnetization is insane! I love it that it lined that stem and crown up perfectly with your calipers!

    • @WatchWithMike
      @WatchWithMike  Рік тому

      Right??!! While not desirable, the magnetism was very satisfying! On a related note, I just bought a carbon fiber caliper so magnetism isn't an issue, and there will be less chance I'll scratch something with it. I love reasons to get new tools!

    Quartz watches dont need mich service. Then can even run just by replacing the battery. They dont require maintenance and service. That is why they are widly used. Also cheap and reliable. Once you put the battery then forgot for 2 years.

      My quartz watches sat in a drawer for 25 years! 😁

      Oh I disagree bro.. I bought 3 non working accurist quartz watches from ebay to try and restore them. I found that there are many similarities with a mechanical watch and are prone to getting gunked up or enduring a burst battery..
      I'll admit, working with extremely tiny plastic gears, pivots and pinions is no joke lol. But after the parts are cleaned and all contacts lightly sanded, I managed to get all 3 watches running again and it was extremely satisfying.
      One thing However, I'd never paid luxury watch prices for a quartz watch. Anything over £200-300 for quartz without precious metals is not worth it Imo. Hint hint Hublot!

    My brother was born in 1988 haha! Love that your wife came to check on you! She seems nice! I have learned with quarts watches that you win some and you lose some... The other day I disassembled a Miyota 2035 and was utterly shocked when I saw how many parts was in that little quarts watch. I put it back together but it still doesn't run. Doesn't matter though because it was a leaning experience and an old secondhand watch. That green is probably acid that ran out of the battery.

      Johan, thanks for the nice words! I’m glad you are digging into watches, too. It’s truly amazing how many tiny parts they pack into these small quarts movements.

      Thank you Dayton! 😁😁😁 I saw that first thing this morning and texted a screen grab to my wife, who has been extremely supportive in this new hobby. My next milestone is getting 4000 hours of watch time… I'm currently at 3500. When I get to 4000 I get to monetize and watch big bags of cash come rolling in each month. Yippee! 😂🥳

    I am totally confused with the mounting of the mainspring in the barrel.I am terrified with the direction and which way the spring to be fitted. Because I know the arbor can be seated both ways the hook of the arbor being facilitated to wind either ine the clockwise or anticlock wise. That is the hooking part placed on the left or right. Can the spring be placed either way, i.e the inner end facing right or left? Please enlighten me in this regard. Thank you in advance
    .

    • @WatchWithMike
      @WatchWithMike  8 місяців тому

      Great question, I have been confused by this in the past but now I understand it better… The arbor has a threaded hole in one end, which points down into the barrel to accept the screw for the ratchet wheel. When you point the hole down into the barrel, you will be able to see the direction of the hook, and therefore know which way to wind the main spring.

    Might I suggest that you start using fingercots? I see that you touch the movement and parts with your bare fingers quite often ..

    • @WatchWithMike
      @WatchWithMike  Рік тому

      Yes! I am trying hard to remember fingercots more often. I get lazy when it’s my watches, especially when I am handling parts that are normally on the outside of the watch. On the positive side, it helps me improve my Rodico skills! 😁

    What was wrong with the movement you replaced?

    • @WatchWithMike
      @WatchWithMike  29 днів тому

      It simply wouldnt run. I don't recall that I found the exact cause. But since the new movement was inexpensive I figured I'd replace it.
