I raced many years ago in the seventies, B gas Roadster at Island Dragway in New Jersey and met the famous Don Garlits. I took my family there decades later after leaving the US Army as a rookie cop and they were nearly literally blown away. My sons loved it and It’s still a great sport.
If you break down the value of entertainment you get with NHRA, it sure is cheaper and more entertaining than any other sport out there. Motorsports are expensive and NHRA could be doing more to fill those empty seats but over all still one of the best values in all sports. I would not trade my NHRA ticket for any other sport.
@@kbbrowntown yeah leave your kid at home with a stranger instead of bringing them to enjoy a very memorable experience with the family! Shut the fuck up kelly...
Welcome to the club, indeed. Indy is still on my bucket list. Labor day weekend, is the spot. Covid kind of effed everything. You have to go to the WrestleMania of drag racing before you die. The U.S. Nationals!! Glad you enjoyed it Jess!
You are not a "friend" to any unaware person you take to a nitro meet unless you insist they were ear protection. After the first run, it is their decision.

Might have been the devices microphone but it definitely sounded off...whoever took her there should have made her wear protection...she won't enjoy hearing aids!
What other rail car runs on Nitro....We talked with them briefly. It's actually a top fuel team from Sweden that was doing testing here for whatever reason.

Island still has funny cars and dragsters running there
“Get Ready” is an understatement 🤣
I took my 3 sons 14 years in a row on the Friday, Labor Day weekend…( they ran at nite ) they priced us right out of it ….
Shameful.
Went with my dad every year until 2003. It was too expensive then
A year is a long time to be able to save money. How much is it?

And before the “stroller police” start barking, yes that little kid has ear protection.

Taking a nitro virgin there for the finals this year. Can't wait to see her reaction!
Place was packed a couple weeks ago. I go to the US Nationals every year!
Met a flattering thumbnail
looks like 2020. No crowds
Haha yes indeed. This was a small event. We didn't expect a top fuel car. Some team from Sweden was there testing.
the power of television and sponsors. nobody there but wish i was
It was a small street car event and this team happened to be there from overseas (Sweden IIRC) to do some testing.
What was there 10 people in the crowd and 1 car?
What was this? Test and tune? Empty stands, single bye run.
Yes, I put that in the description. It was a small event, and a team from Sweden happened to be there for some testing.
"which I did not catch on video"...which is the part of the title you forgot to add.
By the looks of these stands they should make it way more affordable
I put in the description it was just a small event and they were there for testing. When nationals are here it's crazy packed.
@@evbrower cool
Almost no people in the stands?

You had one job
No spectators this racing is not sustainable
Eeewww!!!!!
Might sell more tickets if you race 2 cars at a time.
If you read the other comments you'd see it was just a practice day, not an event. Thanks for the chuckle though.
@@evbrower errr ooops
Haha!
Back in the day we could stand right along the gard rail at the start line, watching 2 top fuels leave used to vibrate your skeleton. Not anymore.
Haha true!
It still does. Some places you can stand at the rails.

Bru HOW are you not wearing ear protection. That’s permanent ear damage right there. Also seemed like it wasn’t running right but maybe it’s just me.
... was it on mute ...engine must have a face mask on 😷
Full pull.
And... @1:15 the crew runs in and switches the fuel system to Nitro.
Not a top fuel car……

that did not sound like a 10.000 HP Engine T/F ?
Peter Lee Maybe not in this video, but it definitely would if you heard it in person.
It’s an A fuel
@@ronaldgillette2356 nope, it was a Top Fuel. A/fuel use Nitro but can't run a supercharger.
