  • In this video, I will show you the basics of foodsafe finishing on wood. We will also look for pore blocking in these finishes so as to limit porosity and any bacterial or fungicidal development.
I will then give you a closer look at the waterproofing of wooden objects in frequent contact with liquid.
    Preamble :
The information is given for information purposes only, there are sometimes commonly used products whose toxicity is discovered several decades later.
The handling of all the products mentioned must be carried out according to the safety data of these products and under your responsibility.
The food toxicity of the finishes is understood after complete drying. For oils and varnishes, this period can be several weeks.
For finishes containing linseed oil or tung oil, there is a risk of spontaneous combustion of the rags used. Always isolate them or put them in water, it's not a legend.
The list of products and finishing possibilities is not exhaustive, it only reflects a sampling from hundreds of products.
Contact with friction (cutting board, block, spoon, etc.)
Contact without friction (so be careful with cleaning)
    Permanent immersion (gourd, vase)
    Special case of vases
o The vases do not require food protection, an elastomer roof type finish is possible
o Homemade pmma plastic covering (plexiglass)...
