To those who would like cheyenna to talk, no she chooses not to, why should she when she has her own language to express her thoughts and opinions, you should learn her language not the other way around. Sign language is a beautiful language, why not try and learn it 🥰

Cannot agree more. Its like another language just with a different medium, not mouth but gestures. So all the people who want to understand, go and learn it. Instead of telling a person to talk when she cannot hear herself talking, I mean thats so rude 🤯 More people should learn sign language, including me

I wrote this comment without realising there were subtitles, then I found the subtitles and watched it again. And I just realised a comment that was bugging me all the time, I mean there are lots of stupid comments but I kept being stuck on ppl saying you‘re voice is angellike..... I just don‘t get the point why people say that, if I was deaf I would find that so super pointless..... 🤔

@@melaniedelpozo5621 Erm, your statement is difficult to interpret so lets go ahead and assume you don't like the word "stupid". Replace it with "Ignorant" and perhaps that will help you see my point. It's not about whether or not you have a Deaf relative, but rather the assumed perception of people who are Deaf. Ignorance / Stupidity is inherent if you ask people who cannot hear if they cannot drive, for example. Hopefully that clarifies my message. :)

I see where you’re coming from, but the Deaf community experiences a lot of these questions all the time. It can become very frustrating. In addition, it was beneficial for her to address them as she did because it helps the person asking the question (and other thinking that question) realize that it is rude and wrong to ask. Since I was born profoundly deaf, I completely understand your frustrations for being deaf as I have been going through that on earth for 60 years. I am still keeping to educate the hearies that we have same legs, arms, hands, brains, eyes but the only difference is the ability to hear (from our ears 👂). When I was younger I was taught to speak orally but at age of 14, I started to learn ASL and loved it. I am in full support of u using ASL and not using voice as so am I too !! Like I am tired of the hearing people asking me if I can drive. Oh please duh. Yes I can drive better than them cuz I use my eyes more often and attentive to many things around myself. Remember our other senses increase more better than our hearing loss. Get the picture?? We are the people of the eye!!!

We have the same opportunities, privilege and language just like hearing people. We just speak in it in a different way. If you are hearing person it’s okay to ask questions if you are curious we can help u be more understanding but don’t ask silly, stupidity questions or things that can offend or assault the deaf community like saying “mute” etc. Always think before y’all speak we have feelings too just like you!!! Deaf people aren’t handicapped we just can’t hear. And don’t assume just because we can’t hear we can’t do certain things!!! Yes we can do ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!!!!! You might actually be surprised. I think the questions about how your thought are, aren't rude at all, maybe poorly phrased. Probably because of a younger audience.
When I have thoughts where I 'talk' to someone, they talk in their voice. The question is if you do the same with a friend of yours do you think about how they sign let's say someone is pretty sassy and signs that way, I refuse to believe that it is just the same for all.
I did read the description if you are wondering.

Celia Elizabeth It’s frustrating because she’s gotten those same questions a million times, and she and many Deaf people have already answered them in other UA-cam videos and places online. But hearing people continue to ask specific Deaf people, as if it’s their job to educate each and every one of us individually, instead of just doing research and using Google to ask these things and find the answers that are already out there. Answering and receiving the same questions over and over gets so tedious and tiresome, especially when the question has a barbed meaning like “how do you order food?” which assumes Deaf people can’t order food, or “but how do they hear their thoughts?” which assumes Deaf people can’t be introspective, or “how did you learn English” which assumes you have to be able to hear to learn English...like, type any of these questions into Google or UA-cam and you’ll have an answer at your fingertips. Educate yourself! The answers are out there and you don’t have to get your single 1 fave Deaf person to answer them for you. While you’re at it, search “questions Deaf people get a lot” or “what not to ask a Deaf person” or “what Deaf people want hearing people to know,” so that you can learn the answers to all the common questions and not have to ask :)

@@lunelilyonrunescape Yeah I get that, never denied it. I just mentioned the one question that's actually cool the other ones are stupid as if being deaf means you have a tiny brain. Kids are stupid what do you expect.
A plan would be to always link a video like as a top comment (since the majority doesn't care about the description), where FAQ's are explained as you said people don't look things up that's what I would do.
There are still things that could be asked without being a pain in the ass, like on a date asking how she enjoys music and then enjoying music together that would be smooth if you ask me.
This is not me being a hater, I enjoy Cheyennas content I just didn't agree with a thing and it's just healthy to talk about shit rather than canceling someone because you disagree.

    • @lunelilyonrunescape
      @lunelilyonrunescape 5 років тому +1

Dough But sure, speaking of your question, I notice you came up with the right answer all by yourself: when you think about communicating with someone, of course you’ll think about it in the language you both use to communicate. So if Cheyenna’s imagining having a chat with one of her other Deaf signing friends, it will be in ASL, just like a Japanese person would think in Japanese about talking to another person who speaks Japanese. That’s a pretty common-sense one. So asking something like “but can you even hear yourself think?” is not only unnecessary, it also assumes/implies that one needs to be able to hear in order to be able to think, so because Deaf people can’t hear, they can’t think. Which is not cool.

I still have to put on CC for videos like yours. I love you videos! Keep it up! By the way, Galludette is an awesome college from what I hear. Train zoom! You know?

Like I said on your other video, ASL is fun to learn because of you and Sean Berdy, so thank you. I can already say "My name is... (name)," 19 letters in the alphabet, as well as the asl to a Micheal Jackson song!
edit: Your humor is amazing btw

You are so right for all the things you said but the truth is unfortunately, that most people do silly and insulting questions because of ignorance.I wish school teach us more important stuff..Greetings from Greece 😊

After watching your video @Cheyenna Clearbrook, I would like to say continue to be strong. Haters are going to hate. Despite what others may think of you, you know you are amazing just the way you are. In addition, your videos have help me in my journey of understanding more about deaf community and culture. Thank you, keep up the excellent work and continue to be a shining star that will be brighter in the night sky as well as setting an example as a true representation for your community to all UA-camrs and subscribers alike! Believe me you are not alone, we as your subscribers (OHANA) are always by your side.

I can understand the bare minimum of ASL and am teaching myself more and more, it was something I had learned years ago and wish I would have kept up with it. I am currently teaching myself and it paid off, I had a deaf customer come into the store and i was able to communicate with her very little and the expression on her face was delightful, like she was excited that someone who is not deaf actually took the time to learn something not normally taught. I love ASL and I believe people should learn it, you never know who you'll run in too. Anyways, I love your videos absolutely beautiful, found your channel from other ASL videos. I hope one of these days I will be able to fully understand you without having to use captions. Have a great day and merry Christmas and a happy new year :)

I suffer from Tinnitus and when I hear ringing, people always assume I'm faking it, everybody in my school keeps walking behind my back and scream as loud as they can which triggers the ringing and it pisses me off so much!

When one of the questions asked about if it hurt to lip sink your ASL I actually found it quite interesting when you said how it doesent cause you discomfort, becouse somtimes when I lip sink to a song for a long time it can hurt my cheeks/jaw but I guess sinse you have been doing it your whole life it made those muciles stronger and I find that pritty cool :)

Lacey Smothers Yeah but how is it rude to ask a simple question to someone who will most definitely know? These people just weren’t educated and I can’t blame them if they have never met someone who’s familiar with deaf culture. I mean I have wondered about some of these things myself and I don’t think it’s rude. Some of them were just straight up stupid but there was definitely no hate.

I enjoyed this video! I believe most were not meant to be offensive but instead are people who are genuinely ignorant of deaf culture. I have only talked ASL 1 and I really learned a lot and enjoyed it. It is something I'd like to continue and I am constantly trying to teach myself more of. There are still some things I'm unaware of that are rude and I learn as I go

This was actually really educational for many reasons. I think what I learned most is that when we of the hearing/non-ASL-speaking community interact with those from the deaf community we are at a major disadvantage, and not the other way around. I think walking into the situation from now on I will be thinking more along the lines of how can I understand, instead of how can you understand. ASL is a beautiful layer of the English language and I'd love more educational videos about it and the deaf community ❤

Omg when I first started getting into sign language and the deaf community, I got so many hearing friends and family ask me dumb questions and it was crazy to see just how much hearing people don't know about the deaf culture. The people who left those comments are on a whole new level of ignorant. Love that you took it to educate others and show us what you have to deal with all the time.
