We wouldn't season the water with salt or butter. The crab already has been cooked, so there will not be much of a pick up of flavor in the steaming process.
Steam the crab legs. Don’t boil them. Place in upside down bowl on the bottom of the pan to hold the crab above the water, if you don’t have a boiler basket.
