I think a big thing that no one mentioned was the return of Hayden Panettiere as Kirby! She was a fan favorite from Scream 4. She definitely filled the void of Sidney.
What a win for her after 4 practically bombed at the box office. I mean this film made 6 million more than 4’s entire domestic gross in its opening weekend. An amazing turn around for the franchise.
I think it has a LOT to do with the fact that Jenna Ortega is starting to become a household name. Being the lead actor of the #1 watched show on Netflix means something. Something like 150 MILLION people worldwide watched that show.
I believe the overall consistent quality of the films is the reason why Scream is popular and beloved. Nothing tops the original obviously, but the only rotten score is Scream 3 and five out of six is very solid. Good marketing and I think the lightning bolt boost they received through Jenna Ortega's star power absolutely had something to do with the box office numbers.
People went to see it because they are just craving these types of movies. Slasher movies are in their last legs and Scream is carrying the hell out of the genre.
I'm seeing it this weekend. Scream is honestly one of the better film franchises out there, and personally the only one from horror that is feel consistent, even Scream 3 has aspects I appreciate, and continue to go back to. Though Ortega's career is on fire at the moment, I think the horror genre is continuing to make its way back to the big leagues.

SCREAM did what STAR WARS failed to do, and bridged the generation gap. Largely due to Jenna Ortega, who is red hot with teen girls right now like my nieces, but also SCREAM hasn't been spamming out content like STAR WARS/MARVEL has for the last decade. As an IP it had a chance to rest for about a decade, save for that Mtv show that nobody watched, so what's old is new again.
Why is John now sitting by himself at a desk in front of the television? Hes now delegated everybody to that side table. It makes no sense. The setup before was more dynamic and professional.

If Scream 6 was relased in the Muslim world, then I guarantee that it would have surpassed Scream 1 in terms of box office and become the highest grossimg film in the franchise. That is because cinemas are very popular in our countries.

Adjust that for inflation, that close to 60 million dollar today! Remember, movies tickets when Scream was released was around $5 vs more than twice as much today and that’s not including extra cost for 3D and full experience b.s.
