Cass Scenic Railroad Parade of Steam West Virginia Day

- Some fantastic whistle and smoke shows as the guys at CSRR put their five steam engines together on this rare occasion! Here's the Cass Scenic Railroads post about this event:
"Cass, W.Va. - Join the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad and Cass Scenic Railroad in Cass, WV on Saturday, June 20th as we celebrate West Virginia Day with a parade of steam! Attendees will have the opportunity to capture photos and video of five, powerful, geared steam locomotives, as they move through Cass during a series of runbys. Featured during the event will be recently restored Climax No. 9 and Shay Nos. 2,4,5 and 11.
This event is FREE of charge and will be clearly viewable starting at 9:30am from the large Cass parking lot. No train rides will be offered on this day.
We ask as many attendees who can to please share photographs and videos captured to social media! You can help spread the word by tagging Cass Scenic Railroad and Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad to show our neighbors and visitors that we’re here, we’re ready, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Pocahontas County very soon!
The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad’s season will officially kick off on Saturday, July 4th with passenger trains departing from our Cass and Durbin, WV stations. Elkins, WV departures will resume in August. For more information and to purchase tickets please visit www.mountainrail.com.

Fantastic show displayed here! Horns are magnificent 👌, 5 of them together is so spectacular! Love it 😍! Must admit, even though these are from 1800s, I have never seen this positioning of cylinders and power transferr to the axles. #9 reminds me of Rocket by George Stevenson. I remember of the working steam engines till 1989, on shunting and 1 local! Great times. The shunters were 0-6-0 PLW! ✌️

The only place I know of that has a Climax, Heisler and Shay geared locomotives. I love this place. I have a classmate that has worked there since he was in high school...he started in 1975. I used to live in Marlinton, now I'm Cali. I'm trying to get back there. Western Maryland #6 the biggest Shay they have must be in for Maint.
If you haven't taken a ride yet you should take the Bald Knob ride all the way to the top.
yes, big #6 was in the shop, non operational this day. im not sure of its status.
I wonder how many of those old loco's it would take to equal one modern locomotive?
