this car is a piece of ART
Lulu Absolutely agree .
Auto Designers of the day were artists in their own right. Today most cars are designed by computers for practicality and efficiency, thus no real styling at all! There are a few exceptions, yes, but most people are not buying Buggattis and Teslas!
Art + Industry = 1966 Riviera...
Always been one of my favorite cars! Along with the original Dodge Challenger!
Yes it is,
There's nothing more stylish than a 60s Riviera and this one still has all of its original beauty
rarely do i see modified car and don't go style nazi on it. This is the exception.
I don't normally like flashy paint but this is the sexiest custom Buick I've ever seen. So beautifully done.
Candy apple red was a very popular custom paint back in the 60s.
Those wheels fit this car perfect: The finish on this beast is beautiful; much respect to this Artist
Stupid wheels.
@@Rickswars explain yourself sir
Great job Randy!
AKorigami this isnt mr.grubb aka, 1970s weed man though
Amazing quality, I can stare at that paint all day. Sadly fewer people can appreciate workmanship of this sort nowadays. Props to the old school guys!
Beautiful car built by real craftsmen. In 1966, this is what Buick wanted their cars to look like.
Fifty years of grinding, dust and unrealistic customers but Randy Cark's smile at 12:42 is as golden as the Buick's paint.
Thanks Jay!
Keith Morgan this design was originally for Cadillac but they turned it down and then Buick picked it up and made it.
Maybe for the ElDorado?
Keith Morgan
So all you looked for throughout the video was a hint of a smile? Creepy.....🤔
Stunning work! That paintjob is something else.
This guy is an old school hot rod builder, not someone who has spent most of his life in front of a camera. Give him a break. I love this video, and the car is beautiful
Truth! Car is soooooooooo cool!!
Wow
But why does he keep calling it a sports car?
w0lf65 Absolutely beautiful car something to look at .
Jbog07 He shore does know .
This car's build is HIGH QUALITY. Some cars Jay has previously featured, like the white Sunny truck with a converted front end, had its tires rubbing on the fender, trans hitting the tunnel and was making so many noises. This Rivi is pure dreamy.
man that paint job is stunning.
do you hear yourself? how is a 1500+ hour paintjob that costs over a grand "Ghetto"? You clearly have no clue where that style originated from.
Slow Python v1 what paintjob doesn't cost over a grand lol. i was expecting a mexican when jay said come on out. its an amazing paintjob but it does look a bit ghetto
Deezy from philly i never said it was, did you even read?
vxsr33 you do know people have been doing that style of work for 50+ years right? Thats just ignorant expecting a mexican to come in.
Slow Python v1 well i live in australia so we dont see many old school american muscle cars. its a beautiful car with amazing detail but to me it looks like a low rider. i think its the flake in the paint
A 1500 hour paint job, that is simply incredible
Thanks, Jay, for posting this. And thanks to Randy for building something wild but with tasteful restraint. Jay nailed it with his comment about keeping the DNA of the car... it keeps the feel of the original which is so cool.
This car is a testament to the influence and beauty of Low Riders. Call it a Hotrod all you want but this is clearly Low Rider DNA all the Way!
I do not think it is a low rider because it is not a cruising looking car. It has a really cool sports look.
It definitely has a Lowrider paint job I remember seeing in Lowrider magazine a Riviera that looked exactly like this one or I believe it had a rainbow paint Job but this is definitely Lowrider 100%. Only Lowrider people spend 20 grand on a paint job Lol
Definitely lowrider, im picking up one tomorrow. Gonna need lots of work but its gonna be worth it.
@@ChoneyPony Good luck, Lowriders are a great alternative to going fast but with class!
Love the paint job and my God that motor.
Indeed.....indeed!
randy is a awsome craftsman hard to find guys like him
Jon Minnella I can see that wow .
It's beautiful
Great build, the paint and the attention to detail is incredible. That is a builder who is beaming with pride on the shop's recognition and the finished car!!
Great car. And I love Randy's voice. It's moist.
Vince L He is true craftsman .
It's just a pity his dentures don't fit. Listen to the 'clicking'!!!
Lol. I heard the clicking and knew I had to come straight to the comments.
Keep coming back to see this beautiful car many , many times.❤️
Nice paint job and upholstery.
My Grampa, born in 1898, that worked for Buick from 1910, there were no child labor laws, until he retired, lied to be a test driver at 16 (he didn't have his driver license)and drove the back roads of Michigan testing Buick cars. I can't imagine the roads back then. What a hoot. He showed me a Riv with two 4 barrels when I was about 10 or 11. I had no idea what he was showing me. I wish I had that car now.
Nice to see that "Old School" is still KING!! No over the top LS conversion with a 1000hp, just nice and stock.. SWEETTTTTTT
A stock 350 is more than what most need.
Beautiful looking car! 1966 and 67 have always been my favourite years for the Buick Riviera, along with the 1963 and 64 Buick Riviera.
The paint color choice was brilliant. One of the most memorable cars I've seen on this channel. Don't know if it was Jay talking up the car but this thing just made me happy.
One of the nicest paint jobs that I have seen. The custom work actually complements the Riviera and maintains its command of respect on the highway. Congratulations on a fantastic achievement !
Give that man a bottle of water quick!
I found myself listening 4 more of those friggin mouth noises lol. Cringe but satisfying
The speech is always the first to go.
Tobacco should be removed b4 applying the mic!
Haarrrr
So distracting
Absolutely gorgeous car! That paint job is phenomenal
If a car guy puts so much effort in a CAR to make it something unique to say the least, well how can you not appreciate that??
beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, why hate on this? respect each others preference.. Never conform if your out for personal satisfaction..
Gorgeous. The paint alone is worth the price of admission.
I remember a woman down the street bought one new in 66. It was a eye-catcher and she looked really good in it too. But there were many head-turner cars prowling the streets in that year. So, it was one of many.
Tom Jones USA They were beautiful cars to look at not those plastic lunch boxes of today .
Right, when's the last time someone twisted their head off to look at a passing Toyota, Nissan, or Hyundai? LOL.
Ron Schlorff Never but for this beauty everyone would.
I had a 66 Belair in 76; great car.
I think I enjoyed watching & hearing the details of this ride as much as I liked hearing them from a builder/owner that just knew exactly what to do to this and say while creating such a beautiful piece of artwork. My hats off to you Randy Cark. BEAUTIFUL ride sir.
Beautiful Landyacht! 👍 and that *_PAINT_* 💕
Love seeing a classic styler hot rod, especially nowadays. The paint work is gorgeous
Love 60's cars, beautiful paint, keep'm coming
The Buick Riviera is a fantastic car that becomes more beautiful as time goes by.
Awesome car !
This guy as been doing this for 53 years that's longer than most people watching this video.
Respect to an incredible car and to the man who had the vision to make it happen.
I might know you are from Connecticut
David Caruso He is great.
The color is amazing. Beautiful lines. Master Craftsman.
Anyone else have a friend like ol' Randy here? Keeps mostly quiet and stick to the point while I babble on and they just nod their head...those are the best friends
My friend, Al, is an old motorhead who now resides in FL. He wanted to shoot a two tone look to my 93 C1500 a few years ago so we went out one day to pick out a color to compliment the OE quasar blue GM used back then. I chose deep water blue which Plymouth used on a lot of cars. While prepping the truck, Al cut out and welded in patches behind the front wheels where he saw some rust bubbling. I didn't know he was going to do it and I would have liked to have watched him do it. He was real quite about things until he had to open his mouth. I paid for tools to do the work he did at times. I also know where to shop online for things he couldn't find; that can go a long way.
One of the coolest car designs of all time.
Normally not my thing, but this car is beautiful! Very enjoyable, Jay.
That car is an absolute work of art. Hell of a job. I'm a Mopar guy but Buick Riviera's were always one of my favorite luxury cars. They were always one of the nicest looking cars on the road too I always thought. The Olds Toronado was a cool car too
That upholstery and paint are WICKED!
The panel and bumper fitment are amazing. It's chopped just enough. You start to see the hours that went into this incredible car.
i love rivieras beautiful cars and this one even more. nicely done, as jay would say
Another lovely car from the good old America’s time ❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️
Somebody put a tremendous amount of money and talent into a car that was unique and graceful to begin with. The difficult chop and extraordinary paint would not be my preference, but I will say it is a spectacular build.
Right. Bring it back to stock. Like I said in an earlier post, these babies were rolling works of art already and didn't need anything extra. But, each to his own.
Bingo!! On all counts!!
3000 hours at $100 per hr shop time is $300,000 plus parts. Then consider the irreplaceable paint job. Too risky to ever drive on the street.
Dale Andrews ... Absolutely agree with you on that one. I had one in the early to mid seventies. It was the lower tier version with the bench seat and column shift. Steel wheels with covers that resembled the wheels on this car. The nailhead 425 was called a Wildcat 465, referring to the torque at 2800 RPM. Horsepower was rated at 340. It was a good performer for the size and weight. It's two favorite highway speeds were 95 and 105 as shown on the super cool roll up speedometer. When I got the car, it had a set of fairly worn bias ply tires on it. Right at that time, Atlas tires came out with 70 series steel belted radial ply tires, so I ordered a set for the car. It made a huge difference in stability and traction. The previous owner made a little change that made a big difference in stance and driveability. He installed load booster rear shock absorbers which were equipped with coil springs on their bodies, adding lift to the rear end, negating the tail dragger stance. As time went on, a guy who turned out to be a rat borrowed the car and took it far from the area. A collision occurred when a drunk woman turned in front of him, thoroughly wrecking the right front fender and bumper. I managed to collect a small amount of money from her insurance and had a shop cut the fender off the tire, making it driveable, but terrible to see. I plucked out the engine and transmission and transplanted them into my '56 Chevy 210 4dr sedan, creating a monster.
@@reasonablespeculation3893 Yet he does.
Jay you nailed it, no small tires. White walls on a Buick. Gorgeous.
true artistry, nice work
Incredible job on restoring and modifying. My hands sweat when he was in traffic. lol
Great car! I had a 71 Rivera and went from Boston to L.A. in less than 3 days! It was like sitting in my living room as I traveled cross country. I may have set a new record but that was not important to me. What I liked about it was the way it flattened mountains. I would like to see a bio of Jay's life done. He has led a very interesting life by some on the stories he has told.
The second gen Riviera is one of those classic designs that is so beautiful and majestic that it physically hurts to look at. This one in particular has to be one of the most beautiful cars ever made by man.
Looks like a golden shark cruising. Beautifully engineered and finished. \m/
Funny you should mention that. Frank DeRosa built a '66 Rivvy called the Golden Piranha.
Just looked it up on Google image - very nice as well. Once I got past the million images of actual golden piranhas! ;-)
Lol.
One the better customs I've seen in a long time!
chopping it was a great idea. it looks so sleek sexy and classyyyy
I have a lot of respect for old timers like these guys. Great job on the car, looks awesome . Congratulations sir!
Holy crap, not a fan of US cars but this one is just awesome. You simply do not see something like this in modern times. And the way this one looks, seems like extracted from an old cartoon. Great episode.
Love the opening shot with the sun gleaming off the bumper! what a picture a real beauty...
What a beauty =)
What a beautiful job on that car. The paint is awesome, beautiful interior. Nice piece of work.
Time for a garage/projects update Jay!!!!
This is a work of art' plus you can recoup your losses by renting the hood out as a portable runway 😂
And crash it into a wall
one of the nicest cars Jay has had on his show in my view. The builder took nothing away from the original intent. It was a beautiful car when it first came out.
My dad was a 'Buick Man', having worked as a production manager at GM in the early '50's. So, naturally, I was a car nut since I can remember. The Buicks were 'old guy' cars to me, but I remember appreciating their innovative styling that took form in the Rivieras. When the '66 Riviera made its debut, I thought that GM really got it right with their graceful coke-bottle shape that also affected Camaros and Corvairs. At that time I was ready to get my own car, and considered the '66 Riviera as the most beautiful car to ever come out of Detroit! I settled for a Chevy...
SIMKINETICS Til the Grand National. Not an old man's anything
right, when it came out I said, "this is a Buick"? But I bought a Mercury!
Ron Schlorff
Mercury? Lol. The ultimate old man’s car. In 1999 I sold Chrysler’s and a man about 65 years old came in with a Mercury Marquis he traded it in for a loaded New Yorker. He said the Merc was an old man’s car. Me, I drove a Cougar
@@dontellgucci1117 lol. Obviously you know nothing about the muscle cars of the sixties, the exact same time era as Jay's Buick here. Mine was a '67 Mercury Cyclone GT390! (google it to learn more). Was the "twin" of the Ford Fairlane of the same year. And "wicked fast", or "goes like a raped ape", as we used to say back in the day!! Yes, it was a "man's car" (was even in their ads that way) but not an old man's car. Cougar, yes, nice; my friend's sister got one same time I bought the Cyclone. A "woman's car", maybe, just sayin' but I have only one data point of a person I know getting one!! Might also be a perfect car for a "cougar", you know, an old woman of about 50, who thinks she is still hot!! LOL. :D
So beautiful! This is the real American style, baby!
Another great episode. Jay It was great to meet you in Vegas at the Mopars and Muscle Cars at the Strip. Thanks for taking a picture with my son on his 16th birthday.
MrInfoUnderground59 oi*.
Just a beautiful car. Nothing more, nothing less.
Rolling work of art. I'd be way too scared to drive that in LA.
Or anywhere. You'd need 4 Navy SEALS to guard it in parking lots.
Man, this guy is a master customizer. Awesome job on this car. I love the color.
-all i can hear is the guy's saliva-
the car is out of this world
Seriously underrated comment ! lol
Thank God I'm not the only one hearing that haha I was losing my mind
I had to go get some water.
So it wasn't just me then?
Seems like ill fitting dentures
Truly a stunning car! That paint job is amazing!
I love Rivieras, especially the early ones, the chop job I can relate to but to me it would have looked much better with a simple non-flake paint job!
It's a lowrider and needs that paint job.
Work of art!!!!! Absolutely stunning.
Buy your own 66' Riviera and do what you want to it. This car is gorgeous. Haters can STFU.
they can't build anything close to this ;)
I think they can, but why would they waste their time
Even when it's not to your personal taste, quality craftsmanship is easy to identify and appreciate.
Fads come and go, but good taste never changes.
dafirnz the interior - good taste, the exterior - not so much
Recovering_Californian You have brain damage.
It IS great to see guys with our colour hair doing this kind of work. Looks great!!
This is such an awesome show😁👍
Brilliant custom work... 🏆 Hat’s off to your sprayer too! 💫
I just finished watching it & never noticed the lip smacking because I have respect for old guys that build cars.
Exactly. Leave the old man alone. He's a gem in himself. He could probably tell car stories all day, with experience to back them up!
Everyone just wants to be a youtube comedian. Id love to gain more knowlage of cars from that guy. We could talk about cars all day
QMoneyPatna I would love to visit his workshop for a day and watch him work.
Rich Gibson I can’t complain because l have only few teeth ,l can’t have implants because my jaws are thin ,scared to death to go see dentist .
@@Batman-wv5ng go to a dentist or dont go out at all
Very nice and not overdone. I am glad I clicked on this one especially.
Would love to see this Buick sitting next to Jay's Toranado.
Yeah Dex ... and next to his Toronado as well!
@@sas6561 OMG all these years and I've been saying it wrong and spelling it wrong. Not that I had much opportunity to insert Toronado in my missives or comments. Even now saying it correctly sounds weird. TorOnado, yeh, still weird. As much as the Riviera is awesome the Toronado is the most beautiful cars from that era, or would you like to correct me on that as well.
wow...what a build...the interior is insane...so good...does not get any better in my opinion..
This looks like something from GTA.
Suraj Divecha
Yeah all we need is the dollar rims
Suraj Divecha not really looks like a classic car .I see this type of car all the time.califorina
Suraj Divecha because gta always make fake cars of the real ones
You can almost make this car in Midnight Club LA. They have a '63-'65 gen. With the custom body kit its pretty close.
It looks like the Albany virgo... 150.000 bucks but it's allright.
Fantastic how they molded the bumpers into the body of the car. Now that is detail!
omg he's a nice guy, and it must be the mic but omg the lip smacking
That is by long and far, the most gorgeous Buick I've ever seen in my entire life.
+Josh K ?
Poor guy is nervous give him a break !
It's also clear he loves what he does. Respect to him.
I didn't even notice, he did great. He is not a television professional, he is a custom car professional! There IS a difference and this is about the cars!
+max the mans hands don't just talk, they sing opera.
Is it just me or did he start feeling nervous mostly after Jay mentioned how cars these days have so many regulations put on them?
Maybe dentures?
Rivieras are beautiful and this one is no exception.
NOTE: THREE THOUSAND HOURS+ TO COMPLETE CAR the 1,500 mentioned was just for the paint work. Expensive build...
Zeek Duff it's a drug money car. that's what the Mexicans ride in California. Fact.

+Radical AM = radical asinine muckraker- not worthy of notice
Radical AM I mean your not wrong kinda racist tho
Buick has always been my family's favorite auto brand. We've have owned almost every performance model! The 1964 and 1970 Riveras are also two of the best cars crossing the country! Cheers Jay!
Nah, '63 thru '65, and '69. The '70's were hideous!
Does Jay not have bottled water around for his guests? This poor guy sounds like he just crossed the desert to get to the garage.
lol
Timothy Patten lol
I could not watch it with earbuds.
Ill fitting Dentures?
Most difficult interview to watch. Guy was dry chewing before every sentence
.............THANK YOU VERY BIG from your fan in Koh Kong, Cambodia......
I like the stock one better
This car is a work of art. Great job Randy Clark!
When is Jay going to review the Toyota Corolla
Advection357 Did you mean the Lotus Elise
Fantastic looking with the slight roof chop . Wonderful body work .
Sound guy: “this is my last day so I’m not gonna say anything about the lip smacking....but omg I have to take off my headphones this is horrible”
Same good god i couldn't handel it.
BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL.
Jim Morrison sounded less parched when he was walking through the desert
This car looks incredible I really like how they used modern rims and tires but still have a factory look and some sidewall. That carries throughout the entire car though customized but as Jay mentions retains the dna of the original. It's refreshing to see someone work with what came on the car and enhance it. Rather than drop in different seats, 20's with a rubberband around them. Or they just drop it not air ride like this, where it can still ride at a normal height and navigate driveways and uneven roads.
I liked it better in the before photo.
Stock this is a stunning car. I remember a friend of mine bought one new a few months before he went into the Marines and served in Viet Nam. It was a wine colored Purple, just gorgeous as a stock car!!
