- "No Country for Old Men" is a neo-western film directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, and based on Cormac McCarthy's novel of the same name. The story is set in the desolate landscapes of West Texas in 1980, and it begins when Llewelyn Moss stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong in the desert. After finding a briefcase filled with money, he takes it, unaware of the tracker embedded inside. But unbeknownst to him, the ruthless hitman Anton Chigurh is determined to recover the money; leaving a trail of bloodshed in his wake.

Nice spoiler asshole!
Thats what I like about this film. It sets you up to think that Anton is going to have a final showdown with Llewellyn but then Llewellyn just ends up getting capped by the cartel members almost as a side note. Its a very realistic situation where in the real world its rare for dramatic showdowns to actually happen
Yeah, the Cartel group was a wrathful group coming in.
Dude, this is the part of the movie that sucked. We got completely blue balled. I like the Coen brothers but gotta call them like I see them.
@@genjirios5412i disagree. Idk why every movie has to have a showdown final ending or a good ending. It’s refreshing to see a realistic ending for a change.
@@darealkiel I mean it’s a movie. It needs to walk the line between being realistic and being enjoyable. A final showdown would’ve made the ending more satisfying. It didn’t need to be a happy one; just one that didn’t happen off screen.
@@genjirios5412 i don't think the point of the movie is to be satisfying. that's for the mcu and childrens movies. this movie is more to make you think and feel, it's not a generic hero's journey
Just shows you the main character has been the sherif all along.
Exactly right
this is a very simplistic way to look at it
@@KrikZ32true. The movie is just not absolut a main character.
Movie has 3 confirmed main characters Llewellyn the sheriff and Anton chigurh
I honestly didn’t understand the title til I saw the ending and I just watched it the first time yesterday
When I first saw this, I didn’t think Llewelyn was going die and was shock on his death.
Yeah, that's the twist. The movie isn't about Llewellyn it's about the sheriff, I guess. His death just sucks you into the others shoes.
They make you really want him to succeed with how likable he is too and they pull the rug from under you.
It surprised me that, given how focused the story was on Llewelyn, that his death was basically just skimmed over in the grand scheme of the movie. This big build up and tension to basically give viewers blue balls.
@@Singlemethod4217i feel this way makes it much more impactful and socking, shows you death can come at any time, and it wont always be dramatic
@@luctapia i get that, its just that they almost glossed over it after it happened. Like he wasnt the focus of 60% of the on screen time, ya know?
I was hoping he would've made it but that dude was relentless .
It was the cartel in the end. He was so busy worrying about Anton he forgot about the people he stole it from
@@tuhmato5528 Worst part is, this was entirely out of his control. His MOTHER IN LAW wouldn't shut up and told the cartel everything they needed to know.
@@DBfan106Damn.
@@DBfan106 she was so annoying. She killed her daughter too.
White old women be talking too much
@@DBfan106 did the cartel offed the mother-in-law too? Or was that her cancer?
I like this end it’s more like real life in these type of situations no one wins
Exactly
This movie, along with “There Will Be Blood,” defined my early adulthood and my understanding of the real “Wild West.”
True. I didn’t understand this movie and book until I drove all the way to Colorado and saw this area for myself.
They say America today is more wild than the West ever could've dreamed to be. This movie does a good job showing that saying.
The real wild west is south of your border. Nothing to be proud of, honestly.
@@ricardogarcia427 That’s true. His other book blood meridian is all about breaking down the romanticism of the Wild West.
Hollywood man not the real west
If it wasn't for his big mouth mother in law we would've seen a showdown between Sheriff Bell Llewellyn and Anto
Yep, all the things Llewelyn did right, he forgot about his big mouth mother in law
I’ve always thought it was brutal how they killed the woman in the pool too. Likely just because she was talking to Llewyn and they probably thought she was his wife or something.
I think the saddest thing about this is that Llewelyn does pretty much everything right this whole story. He’s probably the only human being to ever make Anton Chigurh bleed and not die in the immediate process. He’s probably the smartest character in the movie and it’s just not enough. He was doomed, and it was a moment of kindness that doomed him. He would have gotten away with that money, but he was fundamentally good to the point where he couldn’t live with not trying to give that injured man water. He essentially sacrificed his life to do it, even if he didn’t realize that.
Or if you find a briefcase of cash and keep it first thing you do, dump out the cash and toss the briefcase
@@KingPhilipFDrive to a random spot, get rid of the briefcase, check all the money, leave as fast as you can, maybe move somewhere new and pick up a false identity to be safe
Llewellyn IS Anton
@@ЧИЗДАДЛЯКАМЕНТОФФ 🤯 easy now teacher.
@howdydoodilly6812 exactly. Movie would have been fairly short
The fact that they didn't show the scene between Llewelyn and Anton, the scene that they had been building up to the whole time, is fantastic subversive storytelling.
It was between Llewelyn and the cartel. Anton wasn’t there.
@roryoc18 the story was building towards a final altercation between them. They wounded each other in the first fight and we were all gearing up for a rematch
This scene sucked to watch, it made me feel like all my investment went to nothing. Nonetheless, this movie is awesome
That's because once you've crossed Anton, any investment you make will be for nothing
Hah you should watch Uncut Gems then
@@SmokeyMountainSuccubusI know what you mean but I think what they meant was that we were expecting a big showdown between Chigurh and Llwelyn
@@yungphamei thought after Llewelyn died, Ed would be the one to confront Chigurh when I first saw this
@yungphame I know, I was making a point about the message of the book and movie being that expecting such things is utter foolishness. To want to find exciting drama in a life of murder and death is to misunderstood what pushes a person to those sorts of actions. The world is cold and scary, but it is also boring. People don't die in big long back in forth gunfights or even in quick aesthetically violent moments, they just die. They get shot and they fall dead and become the problem whoever finds their body. To take the case, or to invest in the story, to will yourself to step into that life and hope for some grand pay off, is to suffer disappointment and cold pointless endings. But itself exactly what your expected to do, of course you're going to get excited for the scary chase scenes and of course you're going to want to see the dramatic conclusion. It's supposed to be jarring and disappointing because why would you watch the movie if not to have excitement for this stuff? It's a trap you can't not fall into, but if you learn to see the charm and learn from the pain when the trap snaps closed, it becomes a very fulfilling experience.
Or maybe it's just a lame anticlimax idk I'll be honest I am *super* high right now
And that’s why No Country is one of the best films ever made
Yeah, no country for old men is one of the best films ever made you’re right
This scene was mind blowing to me because throughout the whole movie he was careful, articulate, and so precise with every move just to get gunned down at the end
I could not just walk passed a mac-10.
I must pick it up.
The crime scene should not be dispersed tho
ITS A MAC-11 AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH
@@Argument_Causer
Cool😎
I got it soon as I saw it 😂😂
you know it's bad when the sheriff tells you to call the police
I think when I was first getting into film passionately, this was the first subversion of expectation that trally shook me. Llewellyn is one of my favorite characters ever, I mean hell so is Anton
Realistic Film 🎞️ 🔥🥃
Great. Movie
For ppl who dont know whats the movie is about its about Death and how it comes to different kinds of people, it has no story arch no resolution no happy or sad ending. Its just this is life and this is death.
Thanks to all the mother in laws out there
Tommy Lee Jones speaking Spanish in a movie is like Zooey Dechanel singing or Sam Rockwell dancing. They're gonna find a way to put it in there.
The woman who offered him beer was floating in the pool
Man this is one my favorite movies sucks that Josh Brolin’s character dies
Imagine the sheriff finds the money and starts the cycle all over again
That's where beer will lead you 🤠
I was not expecting that man were death in thus scene.
it sucked they didn't show what happened
He got shot.
@@ignotouno523 No mames
no shit, but with all the violent scenes it doesn't make sense to leave that out, just disappointing
@@thomasrountree374it’s pretty great actually. It’s literally what the movie’s theme is about. “Can’t keep up with the times” cause the world has turned unpredictably violent.
That’s the point, it happened without fan fare. He’s just dead
GREAT. MOVIE
That was a great movie
Beer leads to more beer
Hermosas tradiciones mexicanas
It’s free on UA-cam
I hated seeing this I was hoping he was gonna pull through they shocked us good in this scene
This is what beer leads to
This was a shocker to me when i first watched this movie.
I hated it so much just becoz of that ending but then after some time i realised (myself) that it was the best cinema i ever watched.
Watched this movie 4x now, still don't get if it's a dream, if it's about the sheriff recalling a past even or if it happened in real time.
mmm good spanish acent
I love that Tommy Lee Jones is fluent in Spanish
I also assume he told them to call the police in Spanish too right?
This part sad asf. Just DONT TAKE A PSYCHO SICARIOS MONEY NEXT TIME!
Maybe a little 😮
I never understood this part who killed him they guy that stole the money and did the gir that was talking to him at the pool did she have something to do with it
It’s that chick with them beers that made his slip up. They caught him lacking.
Wasn’t she the one dead on the pool?
She’s dead in the pool but it wasn’t her fault. The cartel found the mother in law and tricked her into telling them where she was heading to meet moss and that’s how they found him
Greed took his and his wife’s life
I'm glad you have a secure border. Good job
A comedy for sadists.
Anton!
Of what use was the rule?
Cancel my plans to go to phoenix tomorrow
Story is about a very determined psychath who iscan assassin. Thorough and efficient. Machine like. Not even the Mexican cartel is spared.
The story is about death. Anton is just part of that
Is this entire movie available on youtube via a collection of these short videos?
Call the police. Aren't you the police?
He's a sheriff.
He literally said that he’s not on their radio. Were the subtitles too small?
I didn’t understand Llewellyn’s last conversation with that girl. I feel like it means something that I’m missing.
If I remember correct. The book implied they were gonna hook up, but Llewlyn just had a pleasant talk with her and stayed faithful to his wife and then the Cartel attacked around the end of their conversation. The body at the pool is the girl with the beer.
It’s to show that no matter if you are the good guy” death will still find you.
Why were the cartel after him anyway, I thought it was just chigurh and his former(rip) boss
His boss gave out multiple transponders, from the start he was being hunted by more than just Chigurh.
Sooooo is that the girl in the pool whonwas at poolside???
Yes
Poor Luellen.
Alt least he didn't chigurhgle on his own blood
We were robbed.
I prefer tragedies, myself. And having the action off screen was different. And I constantly complain about movies doing the same thing over and over... 🤷♂️
I thought this was very refreshing for a movie
no country for old men.
Not the best cop…. He didn’t even secure the weapon as he walked past a suspect….
They never showed how they found him?
They did. The mother in law blabbed to a cartel dude at the airport about where she was going not realizing who he was.
So this is what happend to agent k after retiring from men in black
So am i the only person who puts a wedge and a chair in front of the door when i sleep out of town in a hotel? And keep more obvious protection... sawed off shotgun isnt enough. Unfortunately it was much harder to get a pistol or semi auto gun in 1980. Texas gun laws were way too strick back then. Couldnt even carry for your own protection in your own vehicle. If i remember correctly you couldnt get a CHL until 1995. So ot criminals had them.
In a blink and youll miss it scene the main character is dead. This would have been my favorite movie of all time had it had completely different ending but they totally botched it.
Corruption
Whats K doin there??
Не успел к честному вояке!...
So who ended up getting him?
The cartel got him after they found his mother in law and she unknowningly told the cartel where she was headed
Goes to show u death follows 💰
Tommy Lee Jones is the actor in case you guys didnt know
Not the right name
Is that llewlyn on the floor? Haven't seen the movie in a while
Yes.
I thought that he was the dead body in the pool
I hated the ending
This was the weak and disappointing part that took the wind out of an otherwise great movie. What? Who? Why?
The Coen brothers really fucked this movie up.
How?? This film is damn near a masterpiece in my opinion.
@@MIKEBARNELLAGENT75358 It is, the cinematography is amazing. Its just bs how they made you invest time into a character and like him only to kill him randomly halfway through the movie. Llewelyn was the main character up until that point and you don't even see his death.
@@tecdeccollectmahekquaterfi4710that’s not the coen brothers fault that’s just how cormac McCarthy loves to write

This movie stinks
>one of the greatest cinematic masterpieces of all time
>movie stinks because it wasn't just "violence cool!"
my dude the movie has so much complexity in its themes to the point many people think Anton isn't even real. The entire movie is the world from the perspective of the sheriff, a simple man who sees the world as a battle between good guys and bad guys, who fears the complexities of the world. His simplistic world view makes him think all he has to do is catch the bad guy and all would be solved, but that's not how the world works. He's told in the movie by others that the random cruelty he thinks is new isn't anything new, but just something he's recently become aware of. It's called "No Country for Old Men" for a reason, and that reason is why the movie is great.
@@tapioca8574 yeah i agree dont know what this dude is talking about
I wish that gunfight was the last scene of the movie.
I'm confused did Llewellyn die or not cuz that dead dude don't look like him. Or was Llewellyn in the pool?
That's my question too.
Camera makes it hard to tell who is who.
I think it’s pretty clear it’s Llewewllyn in the hotel room
To quote me the first time i saw this scene....:
"Goddamn it, Llewelyn...."
"...compared to what? The bubonic plague?"
Sometimes you will . . Sometimes you lose . .
This scene is why this is one of my favourite movies, Llewellyn has a whole story laid out yet just as in the real world things don't always play out how you think they will and although it would mean the sheriff was the main character, in a way it shows there are no main characters.
Tommy Lee Jones is a national treasure
My brother, you are the police
He's a sheriff not a police officer
Great movie...
That was the movie that besides war of the worlds original scared me quite a bit. It's also considered to be the most excellent example of a psychopathic killer.
Its been awhile since I've seen this movie. I forgot that was Llewellyn and not a random mexican on the floor lol
