  • Hello everyone! In this video we are going to do the Side Kick / Yop Chagi. This video is a step by step guide on how to do this kick effectively. Thank you for watching!

      Thank you! My balance has improved a lot with the side kick, I think this is the most difficult one to master properly. I need to practice more and more :)

      great, Practice makes you perfect everyday...keep it up..i suppose you might be doing other exercises to keep your skills high...would love it if you share those as well :)

    A well executed side kick with the foot sword / bare heel could cause even more damage than with shoes on (flats or sneakers). Excellent video Nora!

      Yes, it is a very effective kick when done properly :)

    I know with ITF taekwondo they measure their students by the side kick , the better the chamber and release and sometimes I think they hold it during poomsae (which is difficult) I can see Nora isn't quite there yet but don't worry neither am I lol.

      Yes, it is one of the most difficult kicks to perform. But this is not the only measure in ITF Taekwondo :) all the techniques are important for different reasons. According to the new rules in pattern/forms competitions, one cannot hold the side kick out for more than 2 seconds because it stops the natural rhythm of the pattern.

    Nora if you don't mind me critising you, the way you chamber the kick you're telegraphing it. Your opponent will know whats coming when you chamber. then if the kick gets caught or jammed you will taken down. Im speaking from an MMA perspective.
